SEVENTEEN YEARS STRONG: CELEBRATING WOMEN, COMMUNITY, AND THE POWER OF ELEVATION

Each fall, as we prepare to release this special edition of THE HUB Magazine, I am reminded of what a blessing it is to present the Exceptional Women of Color (EWOC) Awards and Expo through the Sac Cultural Hub Media Foundation. What began 17 years ago as a vision to honor women of color who are making lasting contributions has grown into one of the most anticipated events in our region. On September 23rd in Sacramento, the EWOC Awards will once again uplift, inspire, and showcase the power of community.

This issue is dedicated to the 2025 EWOC Honorees, women whose resilience, leadership, and service shine as examples for us all. Each will be recognized with the EWOC Excellence Award, and we are also proud to present the 2025 EWOC Educator Award sponsored by SchoolsFirst. Educators play a vital role in shaping our communities, and honoring their dedication is central to the mission of EWOC.

We are equally committed to supporting the next generation of women of color. At this year’s gala, several scholarships will be awarded to freshman and sophomore students, investing in their dreams and futures. This support is a reminder that when one woman rises, she paves the way for others to follow.

Our gala theme, “Rise of the Queendom: Celebrating Success, Survival, and Elevation,” could not be more fitting. We are thrilled to present the EWOC 2025 Women to Watch Keynote Presentation featuring The Queendom, five accomplished women who hold prestigious positions in California higher education. Their voices and leadership will set the tone for an evening that celebrates how far we have come—and how much further we can go when women of color are elevated.

None of this would be possible without the support of our corporate and community sponsors—both new and returning—who make this program thrive. To our exhibitors, table sponsors, and donors, thank you for pouring into this work and supporting the Young Exceptional Women of Color (Y-EWOC) Scholarship Awards. Your generosity ensures young women of color are seen, supported, and prepared to lead. My heartfelt thanks to Debra Durbin, whose unwavering commitment and time brought forth a true monetary blessing for the 17th Annual EWOC Awards & Expo. Her dedication and ability to inspire support have far surpassed what I could have imagined.

The EWOC Awards and Expo is more than a single evening of recognition. It is about creating a legacy of

visibility, representation, and empowerment for women of color. It is about telling our stories, celebrating survival, and honoring contributions too often overlooked. Each year, as the circle grows wider, the legacy grows stronger—and with it, our responsibility to keep lifting women of color through platforms like THE HUB Magazine.

As I reflect on 17 years of this program, I am humbled by the countless women who have crossed our stage and inspired us to continue this work. Each honoree, speaker, and scholarship recipient carries forward the spirit of EWOC, reminding us that representation matters and community power is unstoppable.

On a personal note, I want to wish everyone a joyful transition into the fall season. With summer behind us, I look forward to cooler days, vibrant leaves, and the warmth of gathering with loved ones. My favorite holiday has always been Thanksgiving—a time to congregate, eat hearty, laugh, and enjoy movies with family. May this season bring you gratitude, connection, and peace.

To our readers and community: thank you for walking this journey with us. Whether you are joining us at the gala or connecting with us through these pages, you are part of a movement to honor the brilliance of women of color. Together, we are building a future where women of color are celebrated, supported, and leading the way.

True Blessings!

THE HUB’s Conversation with The Queendom

THE HUB: When did you all start the Queendom?

QUEENDOM: The Queendom was established very organically in March of 2024. Dr. Brown was asked to lead the closeout session of the A2MEND (African American Male Education Network and Development) Conference, specifically for the women in attendance. Understanding the importance of diverse voices and experiences, she enthusiastically invited four of her sister-friends, all Black women in positions of leadership, to join her. What was planned as a fire side chat focused on advocacy and authenticity turned into so much more and became a space of healing, affirmation, and truth-telling. From that moment, The Queendom was born.

THE HUB: Why did you feel the need to create Queendom?

QUEENDOM: The Queendom wasn’t something we set out to build, it emerged out of necessity. Too often, Black women in leadership are isolated, unseen, and unheard. That closeout conference session showed us that women were yearning for a space where their stories, struggles, and brilliance could be centered. The Queendom grew from that need, a need for sisterhood, sanctuary, and solidarity.

THE HUB: Tell us about some of the Queendom’s past activities?

QUEENDOM: Since that first gathering, we have facilitated leadership development workshops, shared our stories on keynote stages, and created intentional spaces for women of color to rest, heal, and rise. We’ve mentored emerging leaders, partnered with organizations committed to equity, and spoken truth to power in ways that have opened doors not only for ourselves, but for others coming behind us.

THE HUB: How do you personally define “leading with authenticity,” and what does that look like in your day-today leadership role?

QUEENDOM: For us, authenticity means leading without apology. It’s showing up as whole Black women — bringing our values, our lived experiences, and our voices into every room we enter. Day to day, that looks like naming injustice, celebrating people’s humanity, and

refusing to shrink to make others comfortable. Authenticity keeps us aligned with purpose.

THE HUB: What legacy are you most intentional about building as a Black woman leader in higher education and beyond?

QUEENDOM: We are intentional about building a legacy of access, belonging, and transformation. We want students, especially women and girls of color to see themselves reflected in leadership, to know they belong, and to feel empowered to lead boldly. Beyond higher education, our legacy is about modeling wholeness: living, leading, and loving in ways that honor those who came before us and pave the way for those who will occupy space after us.

THE HUB: What is one significant barrier you’ve faced in your professional journey, and how did you overcome it while staying true to yourself?

QUEENDOM: One of the greatest barriers we’ve faced has been navigating spaces that are steeped in both misogyny and anti-Blackness. We have overcome these barriers by grounding ourselves in truth, building a support system of mentors and each other, and remembering that our very presence is a form of resistance. Staying true means choosing courage over silence and refusing to let someone else’s bias define our path.

THE HUB: In what ways has sisterhood shaped your leadership journey, and how do you practice supporting other women in your sphere of influence?

QUEENDOM: Sisterhood has been both our anchor and our launching pad. It’s the reminder that we don’t have to carry the crown alone. We support other women by mentoring, advocating, and opening doors. We are intentional about calling women’s names in rooms where they aren’t present, because leadership is not about climbing ladders alone — it’s about bringing others with us.

THE HUB: Leadership can be demanding—how do you prioritize healing, self-care, and spiritual grounding while carrying the weight of leadership?

QUEENDOM: We prioritize healing through prayer, therapy, journaling, and rest. Self-care for us is honoring

our bodies, resting when we need to, moving when we need to, and saying “no” when we must. Our spiritual grounding comes from faith, from knowing our calling is bigger than any title. That awareness keeps us balanced, even when the weight feels heavy.

THE HUB: What does it mean to you to be a visible Black woman in leadership at this moment in history, and how do you use that visibility to open doors for others?

QUEENDOM: It means carrying both responsibility and privilege. Representation matters, and we don’t take that lightly. We use our visibility to advocate, to disrupt inequities, and to create opportunities for those who are often overlooked. Visibility is not just about being seen, it’s about making sure others are seen too.

THE HUB: How has being a part of The Queendom influenced or strengthened your leadership, purpose, or personal transformation?

QUEENDOM: The Queendom reminds us that leadership doesn’t have to be lonely. This sisterhood has strengthened us allowing us to hold each other accountable, pour into one another, and remind ourselves of the power of collective leadership. It has affirmed that our purpose is not just about our individual journeys , it’s about our collective impact.

THE HUB: What advice would you give to younger Black women finding their authentic voice in spaces where they may feel unseen or undervalued?

QUEENDOM: Your voice is your superpower. Do not silence yourself to fit someone else’s mold. Even if others don’t validate you, trust that you belong. Find your tribe, lean into your calling, and speak even when your voice shakes. You are not invisible, you are essential.

THE HUB: Amid responsibilities and challenges, what brings you joy—and how do you infuse that joy into your leadership and relationships?

QUEENDOM: Our joy comes from family, from our students, and from community. We infuse that joy into leadership by celebrating wins, cultivating laughter, and remembering that joy too is a form of resistance. Joy sustains us, and we believe leaders who lead with joy make space for others to thrive.

THE HUB: When you think about the next generation of Black women leaders, what do you hope they inherit from your journey, and what do you hope they do differently?

QUEENDOM: We hope they inherit courage, the courage to take up space and speak truth. What we hope they do differently is protect their peace. We want them to know they can lead boldly without sacrificing their wholeness.

THE HUB: As women of color, our journeys often intertwine resilience with triumph—how do you personally celebrate your success, honor your survival, and continue elevating to the next level of your purpose?

QUEENDOM: We celebrate success by pausing to acknowledge the moment opposed to rushing past it. We honor our survival by telling our stories, the whole story, not just the polished parts. And we continue elevating by staying teachable, seeking growth, and remaining connected to purpose.

THE HUB: What is your definition of what makes an Exceptional Woman of Color?

QUEENDOM: An Exceptional Woman of Color is one who not only survives, but thrives, who carries her people with her, and who leads with both resilience and

compassion. She is unapologetically herself, rooted in purpose, and committed to creating space for others to rise.

THE HUB: What are your (the Queendom) future plans and where do you see the group 5 years from now?

QUEENDOM: In five years, we see The Queendom cultivating more space for women to heal and advance, facilitating more learning opportunities, writing books, and mentoring women looking to lead across industries. We envision sustainable structures that allow us to keep pouring into others while modeling what thriving Black woman leadership looks like.

THE HUB: If there was one word that describes the Queendom, what would that be?

Elevation.

QUEENDOM: Because every time we come together, we rise, and we bring others with us. n

Celebrity you admire: Sade is an artist that I admire most. In addition to her body of work, her approach to creating music is very authentic. She is intentional about how she creates music and does not force anything for the purpose or pressure of staying relevant. She will unapologetically take pauses and create when it aligns.

Hobbies: I love herbalism and I enjoy making different healing tea blends and herbal lattes. I also love cooking for my family and exploring new recipes.

Hero: I answered this same question 19 years ago for a college entry essay and I wrote about my mother. She is still my hero. Throughout my life, I watched her triumph over obstacles and challenges that could’ve broken anyone. I watched her go after her dreams, stand in her truth, and through everything, remain a compassionate and generous person. She loved deeply and she lived joyously.

Born in Sacramento and raised in Galt, California, Ashanti Cason grew up grounded in the values of resilience, community, and inner strength. At just 25 years old, she is completing her senior year at California State University, Sacramento, where she is pursuing a degree in Communications and maintaining a 3.3 GPA. She previously earned associate degrees in Liberal Arts and Psychology from Cosumnes River College, where she also completed her collegiate volleyball career.

In the summer of 2023, Ashanti’s life was profoundly changed by the tragic and senseless loss of her older brother to gun violence. Amid unimaginable grief, she made the courageous decision not to be consumed by pain but to transform it into purpose. “I gave that pain to God to hold,” Ashanti says.

From that place of loss and healing, the Bravvo Foundation was born—a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing vital resources to children who have lost one or both parents to violence. “The work I do is deeply personal,” she explains. “I know the weight of grief and the silence that follows. Through Bravvo, I strive to create spaces where young people feel seen, supported, and empowered to heal.”

As a new entrepreneur, Ashanti reflects on the duality of building something from the ground up.

Michelle is also the Program Director for Grant Youth Sports, which is also a mentoring program focusing on sports for the youth and located in the richly diverse area of Del Paso Heights. Michelle has been given the rare opportunity to encourage girls to reach for their dreams. Michelle has also fundraised and worked with other local organizations to secure scholarships for graduating seniors at Grant High School which is in her Del Paso Heights Community.

Mentoring and volunteering have been the foundation of Michelle’s professional and personal life. Melissa Muganzo is the owner of Mindy’s Kitchen of CA, a plant-based grab-and-go food company. The company was founded after Muganzo’s long battle with uterine fibroids. After being denied surgery from medical providers and suffering for twelve years, she embraced a plant based diet which eradicated most of her symptoms. Through her journey she quickly found out how challenging it was to find non-dairy or non-egg based products while on the go or at fine dining restaurants. Muganzo decided to create a brand herself, curated for health-based foodies who are always on the go. Creating a brand enabled Muganzo to use her own vision, creativity, and talents to provide resources and experiences to the community. “Nothing feels better than watching people enjoy something that you’ve personally created and worked hard to establish. It makes it all worth it,” she shares. “From providing work experience, to professional mentorship, to carving out new ways of being creative - working for yourself or owning your own business is such a gift and a true blessing.”

Mindy’s Kitchen of CA is named in honor of her mom Melinda “Mindy” Muganzo who used fresh salads and a plant-based diet to lose 120 lbs. To date, Mindy’s Kitchen is set to open its first grab and go access location in the fall of 2026 in downtown Sacramento. To learn more about Mindy’s Kitchen and join the #saladsquad, visit their website at www.mindyskitchen.com and follow them on Instagram/LinkedIn.

It was a red-carpet affair with a beautiful DJ, hundreds of community partnerships, and even had all 300 attendees do the electric slide in the lobby of the theater. To date, that moment affirmed for me that it is in fact possible to have dreams come true. It also affirmed for me that my dreams can also pay the bills.

Best workday strategy: Start my day with the word of God in some way. Often through music. Making sure that my heart is postured in the right place and in the words of Pastor Griffin, making sure I am serving in purpose and not serving man.

Church: Destiny The Experience Church (DTEC), led by Pastor Yardley Griffin II.

Hero: My grandmother Louise Price, because she birthed and raised my mother and my Tias, the women who shaped my life. She did it without knowing how to read or write in her first language of Spanish or English. She came to this country and made a life for her family that allowed me to have the life that I have now. She helped others, she fed others, she loved others. All without any formal education. That is truly remarkable, and I am honored to be a part of her legacy.

Best life experience: Being a mother to my two sons Noah and Xavier aka My Aquemini. They have taught me so much about life, love, patience, shifting my mindset. When it comes to them, I know that God knows who we are, and exactly what we need in our life. Because I absolutely believe God knew exactly what he was doing when he brought us together. They make being a mom easy, and they make me so proud. Experiencing them each day and seeing them become who they are meant to be brings me so much joy.

Something people would be surprised to know about you: That I will cut a rug without hesitation. I love to dance. I don’t mean that cute two step dancing. I mean sweating out my hair, all my makeup has been dabbed off by the end of the night dancing. n

A woman that does for her community. To be there to support and guide those in need.

CLAUDIA ANGELICA DE JESUS

Someone who chooses to continue to SEE THE WORLD THROUGH A LENS OF HOPE AND OPPORTUNITY. Someone who refuses to give up on themselves and their dreams defines an exceptional woman of color because to be exceptional is to defy the expectation of conformity.

A woman with the utmost integrity that carries herself in a way that is pleasing to God; A woman who serves her community and MAKES A POSITIVE IMPACT on all she comes into contact with; Someone who is a POWERFUL LEADER AND A STRONG FOLLOWER when required; A compassionate, caring woman who is virtuous, wise, and influences others to be the best version of themselves.

She is a woman who’s beyond definition.

SOMEONE WHO STANDS OUT and makes a difference in the world through her achievements, leadership, and strength. She’s someone who breaks barriers, lifts up her community, and inspires others through her actions and resilience. Whether it’s through her career, activism, creativity, or simply the way she supports and uplifts those around her, she’s A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH. It’s not just about success, but about how she uses her experiences and voice to create a positive impact.

BRANDI CUMMINGS

A woman who defies ordinary. A woman who either leads the way or creates a way. An individual, despite emotions, circumstances and/or position sees a need in her community and does what is required to begin to address the need. The work required to completely heal a community’s need can run decades, in some cases centuries, but the most important step is the first step, which begins the work.

Someone who leads from the inside out. She overcomes every label placed on her and chooses to use her scars as her story. She uplifts others while pursuing her divine assignment.

Defined by her passion to help others, her unapologetic experience that enables her to walk in authenticity, and her determination to make an impact through adding to any space that she is in. She is the small lever on the thermostat to the world she lives in.

From the practical sense, she may be small, but when she pivots – the room will shift, the dynamic will change, and her presence will be felt when she walks in her purpose.

One who is self-aware and who defines HERSELF better than any external measures ever can. She is Exceptional when she embraces and finds comfort within her own skin and when she stands firmly in the command of her OWN gifts, talents and abilities.

PASTOR JOY JOHNSON

LEADS WITH PURPOSE, COMPASSION, AND THE UNWAVERING BELIEF THAT OUR YOUTH DESERVE SPACES WHERE THEY CAN THRIVE. As the founder of G.L.O.W. (Girls Leading Our World), I have committed my life to empowering young women to see their worth, embrace their potential, and lead with confidence. I do not seek to change who they are—I aim to enhance the beauty, brilliance, and strength that already lives within them. Whether it is through mentoring, creating safe community spaces, or simply listening without judgment, I show up every day with heart-first leadership and a mission to uplift those around me. To me, being an Exceptional Woman of Color means using every part of my journey—my struggles, my strengths, and my story—to make room for others to rise. It means showing up for my community even when it is hard, because the work matters and so do the people.

MICHELLE GLADNEY

A woman who is of course accomplished in varying lanes of life. That accomplishment includes but is not limited to titles or letters behind her name, or monetary gain. More than that she has depth, she shows resilience and she is purposeful and intentional about how she creates cultural legacy. She reciprocates community cultural wealth. Being mindful to pour into and not just extract from her community and its wealth. She can balance heart and head. She values individuals no matter their title or tax bracket. She understands her own gifts and uses them not just to elevate herself but to elevate those around her. An Exceptional Woman is a force that can come to you quietly or with command. In either way she comes, she is using her voice to bring justice, healing, and truth. She moves gracefully, humbly, but still with her head high. All of this is important because it allows her to shape not just the present, but also her legacy. It helps her shape spaces and time where people can grow, and thrive.

ANYA JAEL-WOODS

Leads with courage and conviction, knowing her presence alone challenges the status quo. She lifts as she climbs, creating opportunities and pathways for others to follow. She stays rooted in her values, breaking barriers with integrity and opening doors for future generations to thrive. She embodies resilience, vision, and grace, proving that leadership is not just about personal success but about empowering others and transforming the spaces she touches.

Someone who rises with intention, leads with integrity, and uplifts others as she climbs. She is defined not just by what she overcomes, but by how she turns her challenges into platforms for impact. She shows up with cultural pride, emotional intelligence, and a fierce commitment to creating space for those who are often left out. An exceptional woman of color doesn’t wait for permission — she builds, leads, nurtures, and disrupts when necessary. Her excellence is measured not just in titles or accolades, but in the lives she influences, the systems she challenges, and the legacy she leaves behind. She embodies both resilience and restoration — and that is what makes her powerful.

Dr. Dene’ Starks-McGee

No one person can or should define what makes a woman of color exceptional. It’s more so in her modeling, behavior, impact, vibe, legacy, longevity, determination and how she makes you feel when she crosses your path. Not everyone will see what all she does and not everyone will experience her throughout her lifetime. However, if you are around her and she makes you feel seen, loved, capable, encouraged, or valued then she is in fact an exceptional woman of color.

A women who empowers the next generation of women leaders and people of color. A women who leads with conviction and empathy. A women who is humble enough to know she is never the smartest person in the room as there is always opportunity to learn from anyone.

Someone who’s unapologetically herself. She keeps pushing, no matter how rocky the journey gets. She’s strong, but at the same time owns her vulnerability. She’s courageous and leads with both grace and fire. She carries the weight of her culture, community, and history with pride and turns adversity into strength and pain into purpose. She doesn’t just survive, she rises, leads, and transforms everything she touches. She’s simply walking in her purpose, and everyone around her knows that to be in her space is to honor the woman she is, unapologetically.

Someone who leads with love and shows up with both strength and heart, but she also stands firm in her values and the standards she lives by. She moves through the world with purpose, with grace, and with a resilience that comes from lived experience, not just survival, but growth. She understands the power of her voice and uses it to uplift others, make space at the table, and speak her truth, even when it’s uncomfortable. Her experiences have shaped her, but she doesn’t let them define her. The challenges she’s faced fuel her, not in anger, but in a drive to be better, to rise higher. What makes her exceptional isn’t just her achievements or titles; it’s how she stands in her power with unwavering confidence. She is grounded in who she is, where she comes from, and why she’s here, and she demands that others recognize and respect that. She balances the demands of family, work, dreams, and community with intention, never losing sight of herself in the process. She’s not out here trying to prove anything to anyone.

LINDA RAMIREZ
LATESHA PIERCE

A woman who lives in her truth and walks boldly in her essence. Her deeds, skills, and presence create lasting impact in every space she enters. She doesn’t need to boast, her light speaks for itself, and the voices of others sing her praise louder than her humble introduction ever could. Integrity is her birthright, and confidence is her stride. She wears pride like a flower, resilience like makeup, and carries her beauty, femininity, and grace in every step she takes. She is every woman who honors her inner power, rises despite adversity, and shines without apology.

Someone who leads with strength, grace, and purpose, while rising above challenges and uplifting others along the way. She is defined not just by her achievements, but by her resilience, integrity, and impact. An Exceptional Woman of Color often wears many hats; leader, caregiver, innovator, advocate and she carry them all with pride, even when the odds are stacked against her. What makes her exceptional is her ability to turn adversity into opportunity, to lead by example, and to create space for others to rise alongside her. She doesn’t just succeed for herself, she opens doors for others, speaks up for those without a voice, and gives back to her community. Whether in business, education, public service, or at home, she walks with courage and compassion, and her presence makes others believe in what’s possible. It’s not about perfection, it’s about purpose, perseverance, and people.

LUGENIA WHITESIDE

Someone who leads with purpose, uplifts her community, and turns adversity into power. She embraces her identity unapologetically and uses her voice to inspire change, whether in business, family, or culture.

She knows her value. In my eyes the greatest value is to help women and girls see themselves through your success and allow them to dream bigger. Culturally, I understand this power and privilege and am honored to a part of the vision and journey.

A living legacy — strong, wise, and unafraid to turn her struggles into someone else’s hope.

She is defined not by titles or accolades alone, but by the way she shows up for her people, her purpose, and her power, even when the world tries to dim her light. She is rooted in culture, grounded in integrity, and moves with intentionality. She leads with love, resilience, and wisdom passed down through generations. Her impact isn’t just seen in what she does, but in who she lifts as she climbs. An Exceptional Woman of Color often wears many hats, advocate, nurturer, visionary, healer, and does so with grace, despite systems not built for her to thrive. What sets her apart is her ability to transform struggle into strength and to hold space for others while honoring her own voice. She is defined by her legacy, her brilliance radiates in ways that inspire, build, and restore

VANESSA THOMPSON

She is rooted in her truth, deliberate, and doesn’t wait for permission to be. Her excellence isn’t defined by titles or accolades, but by how boldly she shows up for herself, her people, and her purpose.

KOI RIVERS

She walks with confidence and grace, fully aware of her own vulnerability but never hindered by it. She embraces her calling, tackles every assignment with fierce determination, and leads with love. She doesn’t just endure, she inspires, uplifts, and transforms the space around her.

STEPHANIE THOMPSON

LISA WILLIAMS

A woman who embodies intentional leadership as she leads with grace and compassion. In a world built on inequity, she is not afraid to make waves in the status quo. She strives to create a meaningful heartbase impact in the lives she touches. Even though she faces obstacles, she is still devoted to living her purpose. Whether she is creating impact in her home, or in the community; she is showing up authentically and shining her light brilliantly.

She leads with empathy, represents her community with integrity, and makes space for others to rise alongside her. She stands in rooms where people before her weren’t always allowed and holds the door open for those coming next.

DR. DAWNTE EARLY

She is strong, authentic, and keeps pushing forward no matter what life throws her way. She is chasing her own goals and dreams but also lifting up the people around her and her community, too. She knows how to handle complex situations with grace and heart, and she’s not afraid to be herself, fully and proudly. She breaks barriers, challenges stereotypes, and makes room for others to shine. Basically, she’s a powerful, inspiring force who shows what’s possible and lights the way for others.

It can’t be defined by just one thing—it’s deeply personal. It’s about how we show up, despite what life throws our way. It’s the strength we carry from our lived experiences, the goals we set for ourselves, and the way we choose to lead, love, and lift others. Being exceptional doesn’t mean being perfect. It means being real, being resilient, and staying committed to your purpose—even when the path isn’t easy. Every woman’s story is different, and that’s what makes our power so unique.

She is a fearless and courageous woman that stands up for what she believes in, no matter the consequences. Her moral compass guides her to make decisions that improve the lives of others and of herself. She inspires others to remain grounded in their authentic self.

KIMBERLY BANKSTON-LEE

One who exemplifies excellence through her remarkable accomplishments and dedication in her chosen field. She uplifts, encourages, and inspires others to rise above challenges on their journey to success. Most importantly, when faced with life’s trials, she demonstrates faith, resilience, and the grace to let go and let God.

CAROLYN ANN MINOR

Someone who rises above challenges with strength, courage, and unwavering faith. She embraces her story, leads with kindness, and lifts others as she climbs. She transforms adversity into purpose and empowers those around her by living authentically and boldly. She defines excellence through her resilience, compassion, and commitment to making a difference.

One who creates her own path with intention and purpose. She embraces her journey, even when it looks different from the norm, and uses those experiences to inspire and uplift others. She leads with empathy because she knows what it feels like to overcome challenges, and she builds spaces of connection and support, so others do not have to walk alone. What makes her exceptional is not only her resilience, but her ability to transform that resilience into joy, community, and impact.

It means celebrating and honoring the richness of our identity. It is the daily act of resilience—overcoming obstacles not just for yourself, but for those who walk beside and behind you. It means empowering others through your strength, your voice, and your unwavering commitment to justice and equity. An Exceptional Woman of Color lives authentically, rooted in self-awareness and reflection. She understands how her identity influences her values, and she leverages that knowledge to uplift her community and create opportunities for others to thrive. She ensures that no woman is left behind. Her strength lies \not only in her power, but also in her vulnerability—the courage to face her weaknesses and transform them into opportunities for growth. She is bold, compassionate, and unstoppable.

Greater Sacramento Financial Literacy Group (GSFLG) was created to educate, support and empower each other for the economic wealth and growth of our community and to help shape the future generation of wealth.

Financial literacy is the possession of the set of skills and knowledge that lets a person make informed and efficient choices with their financial resources. All people touch money and the manner in which an individual uses it is up to him or her but not being properly informed on how to make, save and invest can spell disaster.

For the Black community, it is necessary to change the habits of being consumers to becoming investors and entrepreneurs. Learning financial skills such as investing, stock trading, saving and what it takes to start a business, you are better preparing for the future and securing a financial legacy for your family.

Learn more about virtual meetings held via Zoom on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month.
