9th Annual Exceptional Women of Color Conference

Dear Colleagues, Friends & Newcomers,

Welcome to the 17th Annual Exceptional Women of Color Conference: Rise of the Queendom

The Sac Cultural Hub Media Foundation is honored to welcome you to the 17th Annual Exceptional Women of Color (EWOC) Awards & Expo, hosted at the DoubleTree Hotel in Sacramento. We are thrilled to gather with you for this extraordinary evening of recognition, inspiration, and celebration.

Since its inception, the EWOC Awards has been a signature event in the Greater Sacramento Valley Region—an annual tradition that brings together women, men, and students to celebrate the outstanding achievements of women of color. For 17 years, this program has amplified voices, honored contributions, and created a powerful space where excellence and community pride shine brightly.

Tonight, we are proud to honor more than 40 women with the EWOC Excellence Award. These trailblazers reflect the resilience, brilliance, and leadership that define women of color across industries and communities. Their stories are not only deeply personal but also profoundly impactful, inspiring all of us to pursue success, survival, and elevation.

We are also delighted to present the 2025 EWOC Educator Award, sponsored by SchoolsFirst. This award highlights an educator whose dedication to teaching and mentorship uplifts the next generation, creating ripple effects of change that will last for years to come.

Investing in the future is at the heart of our mission. This evening, we will proudly award several scholarships to freshman and sophomore students through our Young Exceptional Women of Color (Y-EWOC) Scholarship Program. These scholarships provide resources and encouragement for young women beginning their higher education journeys, affirming that their goals and dreams matter. To our sponsors, donors, and supporters—your generosity has made these awards possible, and we thank you for helping to shape tomorrow’s leaders.

Another highlight of tonight’s program is the EWOC 2025 Women to Watch Keynote Presentation, themed “Rise of the Queendom: Celebrating Success, Survival, and Elevation.” This theme speaks to the heart of our work. It honors the perseverance of women of color who have overcome barriers, the strength of those who continue to thrive, and the promise of a future where women’s leadership and contributions are fully recognized and celebrated.

The success of this evening and of the EWOC program would not be possible without the generous support of our corporate and community sponsors. We are especially grateful to our new and returning sponsors for investing in this program year after year. Your commitment demonstrates the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and ensures that the achievements of women of color remain visible and celebrated. To every partner, sponsor, and donor, we extend our deepest appreciation for sustaining this legacy of excellence.

As we gather with more than 500 attendees tonight, we are reminded of the power of community. The presence of so many women, men, and students affirms the importance of honoring women of color, lifting up their accomplishments, and strengthening the networks that empower all of us.

This evening is more than a gala—it is a celebration of legacy, leadership, and limitless potential. It is a tribute to those who paved the way, to those who stand in leadership today, and to the young women who will rise to carry the torch forward. Together, we celebrate not only the achievements of remarkable individuals but also the collective progress of women of color who continue to transform our communities and the world.

On behalf of the Sac Cultural Hub Media Foundation, thank you for joining us for the 17th Annual EWOC Awards & Expo. May this evening inspire you to honor success, embrace survival, and celebrate the elevation of women of color everywhere.

Y-EWOC Scholarship Program

Today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders and business owners. Our mission is to inspire young women to seek successful opportunities and affect positive change in their communities. Our purpose is to empower young women to embrace their strengths and to reach their full potential in the career world. For the past 13 years our Young Women’s Summit has featured locally recognized young women who share their own insights on college, career building, entrepreneurship and how to address challenges that are attributed to the strides of success.

The annual Young Exceptional Women of Color (Y-EWOC) Scholarship Competition has assisted young women of color, ages 14-21, with a $500 award toward higher education. The goal of this scholarship is to encourage young women of color to pursue their dreams and secure the education and skills needed to make them a reality.

This year we are presenting a total of four (4) scholarship awards in the amount of $500 for each student. These young women were selected based on their submission of their scholarship application that included resumes, letter of recommendation, and an excellent essay about What Makes An Exceptional Woman of Color?

both illustrate this legacy. Sojourner Truth demands recognition of both her womanhood and her blackness through her speech “Ain’t I a Woman?” which commands recognition of both her womanhood and her blackness, while Harriet Tubman risked her life repeatedly to free enslaved people through the underground Railroad. Both women represent exceptional strength, rooted not in privilege, not in privilege but in courage and service.
