We know for us personally there have been many highlights, many challenges, blessings, lessons and laughter along the way! As the year draws to a close and festivities ramp up as we celebrate the year that was, prepare to gather over the festive season with family and friends, it’s important to continue to maintain your practices of self-care, of meditation and other healthy habits that you have created for yourself over the year. Take some time out to reflect on just how far you have come these past twelve months and celebrate yourself for what you have managed to overcome, even if you are still going through it. It’s important to celebrate the small wins, not just the finished product! Keep reading to read my article on Farewelling 2023 for the 5-step process I have been following for many years now to farewell the year that was and welcome in the brand-new year. Warren Takes Over the Tongs for Mr Perfect By Shanelle Schick
Meet the new Mr Perfect host, Warren Maltby Meet the new host of Yeppoon’s Mr Perfect monthly barbecues – Warren Maltby. Warren was prompted to take over the tongs and throw the snags on the barby each month when the men’s mental health group needed a new host.
the professional help he needed during challenging times are what motivated Warren to step up and take over the tongs providing the male community with an outlet for connection and mateship each month. As we know, barbecues bring people together.
Having seen Mr Perfect advertised on Facebook, he often thought that he would go to the next one next month. But by the time he had plucked up the courage to go, the group was on hold for a few months while a new host was found. Life’s longterm stress and not being able to afford
The barbecues are back at Kemp Beach after trialling a few different locations and are held on the 3rd Sunday of the month from 10.30am – 12.30pm. It’s a place to come together, have a chat, where new connections and friendships are formed.
06
The benefits of having a yarn to someone else who is experiencing a difficult time can help to ease your own burdens. There are no expectations to share anything or to even chat about mental health. Mr Perfect is a not-for-profit organisation running at several locations across the country and often relies on donations from the community to help the groups to continue. Our local Mr Perfect has been supported by the kindness of community members and local councillors. For all the latest barbecue details, make sure to follow Mr Perfect on Facebook and keep an eye out on The Hub Capricorn Coast page, as we’ll share the details of upcoming get togethers.

Ebany Excited to Host Divine Intentions & Manifestation Workshop By Shanelle Schick
A workshop idea that came to Ebany King whilst undergoing treatment for cancer is coming to fruition for the local businesswoman. Sunday 20th January will see Ebany host her workshop ‘Divine Intentions & Manifestation Workshop at Xanadu Yoga studio in Rockhampton. Planning and writing for this workshop happened during mid treatment. From the moment she was told that she had cancer, she realised that she had to watch her mind frame and thoughts. Understanding that thoughts are powerful, she became very specific with the words that she was using. Always speaking to herself as if she was healed. Ebany rejected the concept from her mind and body and was able to detach herself from her diagnosis. Soon the words ‘I don’t have cancer’ became the mantra she would use to realign herself with a healing mindset when her thoughts would stray, or she would start to give up or give into fear.
An old hand at manifesting, she has often used the technique to manifest certain outcomes or opportunities in her life, something which she is looking forward to sharing with the participants of her workshop. The afternoon will be magical. With Ebany being a witch and a psychi medium, there is always a mystical element to any of her events. Ebany warns that it can be a little different to what you might expect at your typical workshop. There are a few different elements to the afternoon. Included is the workshop portion, followed by an open discussion where participants can talk freely and openly about all things spirituality, finishing off with a cleansing ceremony and sound bowl healing ceremony. Tickets are $44 and can be purchased through humantix.com/au. The link to purchase tickets can be found on Ebany’s business page on Facebook and Instagram. For more information, you can also email celestial.blissinfo@gmail.com Tickets to this event are selling quickly, so you are advised to grab yours sooner rather than later. The event caters to age 16+, you are welcome to bring your daughters, nieces etc to join in the workshop too.

The Pieces of the Puzzle are Coming Together for the Capricorn Coast Toy Library By Jillian Neyland
Anyone who has ever started a tricky jigsaw puzzle knows the routine. You are allured by the idea of the finished product, and you whole-heartedly commit to the challenge. You sit down with a cup of tea and think of how lovely it will look finished in a few hours. You come back to the table 3 months later and the cat has been sleeping on the box, and some of the pieces you had sorted now seem to belong in a different part of the picture. Overwhelmed but undeterred, and with the help of encouraging friends and lots of coffee, you finally manage to get the jigsaw puzzle almost finished. It's a triumphant moment when you are about to put the last piece in place. That is how Jillian Neyland and the Capricorn Coast Toy Library committee are feeling. The past few weeks have really seen their puzzle take shape. Business, banking and legal requirements were finalised, a location in Yeppoon was found, and several donations and grants were received which secured funding to purchase a starter kit of toys, a laptop and the specialty toy library online operating systems. With Christmas just around the corner, many families are tightening the purse strings. Jillian hopes that many will choose to purchase a 2024 Toy Library membership as a way to get more bang for buck. The Toy Library is set to open on Saturday 27th January and member families will have access to a diverse range of toys, games, puzzles and active play equipment. There will be two borrowing sessions a week held at the new Cordingley Street address.
14
For the majority of the school holidays, committee members will be very busy sorting through bulk toy purchases and donations, entering information into the library catalogue, and processing memberships. Anyone wishing to volunteer to help clean toys, catalogue toys, build shelving and so on, are welcome to get in contact. For more information about purchasing Capricorn Coast Toy Library membership go to https://cctl.setls.com.au or on Facebook. Inquiry emails can be sent to CapCoastToyLibrary@outlook.com

Women’s Health Month Set for February By Shanelle Schick
An advocate for all things mindset, wellbeing and mental health, local businessman Tim Chan of Intra-Mind is busy behind the scenes planning and organising the Capricorn Coast’s inaugural Women’s Health Month. During the month of February 2024, Tim is aiming to showcase multiple aspects of women’s health and wellbeing from physical health, mental health, fitness, financial wellbeing, pregnancy and beyond, relationships and much more by bringing the community, individuals and couples together to learn, grow and expand themselves in various workshops and hosted events. Tim said “These days there’s so much focus on men’s mental health days. We’ve got Movember for men, and October for general mental health but there really is nothing that solely supports women’s mental health and wellbeing. This will be an opportunity to bring awareness to a whole host of challenges women face and to bring some sensitive topics to the forefront”. Sponsorship opportunities are currently available, and Tim encourages anyone who may be interested in sponsoring the event or being involved in any way to contact him. He is hoping to secure sponsorships, venues and the event line up by 31st December. To express your interest or for more details, contact Tim via timothychan@intra-mind.com.au

Walkers Support 2nd Walk for Wellbeing By Shanelle Schick
Sunday the 15th October saw the 2nd Walk for Wellbeing held. This year over 100 registrations were received with 80 people walking on the day from Farnborough Beach to Kemp Hill. This year’s event was supported by Gold Sponsors Lure Living and Intra-Mind, bronze sponsor Zest Health and Wellness, and Coastal Meetings, CQ Elopements & Weddings, Mr Perfect, Queensland Fire & Rescue, SES, Aussie Gold Springwater also supporting the event. Although the walk started an hour earlier, the weather was perfect and very warm! It was a great opportunity for walkers to enjoy some of the coastal scenery along the way that can be missed on our daily commutes as we are too busy focussed on where we are heading to. Morning tea at Lammermoor Beach served by volunteer Darlene and the SES crew was an opportunity for everyone to refuel before continuing on to the finish at Kemp Hill. The Hub Capricorn Coast would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made this event possible from our Gold and Bronze sponsors, supporter businesses, volunteers, walkers, to everyone who shared the event – we couldn’t have done it without you! Watch this space for the announcement of next year’s date for the 3rd Walk for Wellbeing!

Releasing the Year That Was
By Shanelle Schick
Well, I’m not sure about you, but 2023 has been a full-on year around here. Full of all the things – the great times, the bad times, the challenges, the lessons, the blessings, the learnings, fun, laughter, adventures and so much more! At times it’s felt more like a decade and then in others just a heart beat! Over the years I have found it therapeutic and important to release and let go of the year that was to make way for the new incoming year. I gave up on New Year’s Resolutions many years ago and goals have never been something that sat well with me (I found them stifling and controlling and I tended to run from them rather than towards them, however that’s a whole other article). The process that I am going to share with you has been something that I’ve personally done over many years now and have found it to be an effective, yet gentle way to release. I usually facilitate this through an online event over 5 days, however this year I am taking a break and will be off social media during this time. You can choose to do this over a 5 day period or set some time aside over the last couple of days of the year to go through the process. However you choose to do it, carve some time out, grab your journal and here’s the process I’ve been using
Step 1
What have been your highlights over 2023? What has stood out, been memorable? What are you proud of? What were your key learning this year? What new experiences did you have? How did you take care of yourself? Write these down in your journal, you may be surprised what comes up for you! Quite often we can get to the end of the year and give it a blanket cover, but when you take a step back and examine things more closely, there’s usually some hidden gems to be discovered in there!
We know that there are always challenges and hurdles in our way. Take a few moments to ground yourself and then think about what these were for you personally. It’s important to take a helicopter view of your year, the aim is to see what stood out, not to go back into the old hurts or stories that may still be there. Ponder these questions:
21
Step Two
What were your challenges and hurdles throughout the year? What did your challenges/hurdles teach you about By Shanelle Schick yourself? What were the blessings that came from being taken away from the path you thought you should have taken? What did you do for yourself during the challenging times? If presented with the same challenges/hurdles again, what would you do differently? This step is one of my favourites! Take some time to reflect upon the prompts below. Remember you can choose one or all or none, it's completely up to you! • What were the gifts that you received this year? (These can be physical gifts, spiritual, lessons etc) • What moments stood out for you that you have gratitude for? • What initially presented itself as a challenge for you but ended up being a blessing in disguise? • How have you connected with your soul/spirit that has brought gratitude? • What blessings did you receive this year? • How did you celebrate yourself throughout the year? Then take a moment to reflect upon the benefits of these moments and how they have enhanced your year overall.
Step Four
Step Three
When we let go of what we no longer need, we make space for the new to show up. There are two parts to this step., a physical and a journalling part. You can choose to do both or one or the other. Physical - when our space is clear, we think more clearly and our energy flows better. Technology clean out - delete emails, unsubscribe from unnecessary marketing lists, tidy up your social media accounts by deleting anyone who is no longer in alignment with you and your direction, clean out old text messages on your phone, internet banking - clear out old bills that you no l
longer pay or payees who you don't make regular payments Kitchen - clear out the fridge of any old food or expired food. Clear out the pantry Bathroom - clear out any items that you're not using, half used bottles in the back of the cupboard Handbag/Purse - get rid of old receipts, loyalty cards that you no longer use Car - clear this out of rubbish, wash if you have time.
22
Step 4 Continued.....
By Shanelle Schick Journalling - set aside 10 - 15 mins
Write your stop doing list. What are you going to stop doing? What are you leaving behind in 2023? What are you no longer going to tolerate? What do you need to remove from your life? What needs to be let go of for you to move forward? You may wish to do a little 'letting go' ceremony to burn your list, symbolically letting go. The 1st of January, symbolises a clean slate, an opportunity to begin again, the chance to write our story the way we choose.
Step Five
What are your intentions for the year ahead? What would you like to bring more of with you? What new experiences would you like to have? How would you like to feel each day when you wake up and greet the world? What will you do to take care of yourself? Where would you like to explore or visit this year? The possibilities are endless. Spend some time with your journal here and see what comes up for you. Don’t be too hasty to dismiss what comes through for you – you just never know what is around the corner or instore for you! I trust that this process has helped you to clear up the debris of 2023, allowing you a place of renewal to commence 2024. I wish you and your family a safe and merry festive season and look forward to seeing you back here in 2024!

Interview of an Introspective Hypnosis Client Sissy Mylrea SeeChange Counselling & Hypnosis
What made you decide to have an Introspective Hypnosis session? C: I was referred. I wanted to have some mental clarity on what was going on in my life. What did you expect? I had only seen the tv hypnosis where people dance like chickens! I knew it wouldn’t be like that. I had no clue I was under until I started to talk and I went ‘whoa where did that come from?!’ Did it help? C: Yes! It helped me see that my past lives were part of a generational pattern for me and others in my life. An example is that someone who was my father in a past life is my daughter in this life. What surprised you the most? C: The fact that I was under but was completely aware! I was amazed at all the physical sensations I was getting. You just can’t make it up! Everything about it has blown my mind about energies and other realms. How has it changed your life? C: It broadened my view on life and helped me understand my family more. It has given me more clarity on my life purpose. Did you have control? C: No matter what came up I felt safe in knowing I could stop at any time. I could also go to the bathroom if I needed to and then come back and continue! Other things that you liked? You knew where to put crystal to help me heal during the session and different angels came in to help. I liked that I got to experience the other worlds and not someone telling me. As you know I’ve come four times not over the years to know more possibilities.

It's a big subject, so In this column we will take just a brief look at its role as connective tissue and how there may be pain or restriction of movement if it's damaged or dysfunctional. At the bottom I will put some links should like to know a bit more. Feeling sore and/or tight and stiff after physical activity, a period of inactivity, or for no apparent reason? It may not be just a muscle issue. Assuming it's not a medical issue, it might be a fascia problem, a muscle problem or both. Fiasca is a thin layer of fibrous connective tissue that surrounds and separates muscles, groups of muscles, blood vessels, and internal organs of the body. It is made of collagen fibers, elastin fibers, and ground substance. This gives fascia its stiffness and strength while also making it flexible. While fascia was once thought of as passive tissue, it is now known to have proprioceptive properties - it contains neurons and sensory receptors. The physical properties and functions of fascia mean it plays important roles in circulation, waste removal, nerve pathways, and overall structural support and integrity of the body.
While it is difficult to provide an exact percentage of the body's weight that is fascia, as it can vary depending on factors such as age, gender, and body composition, it is estimated that fascia makes up approximately 10-15% of an adult human body's total weight. Fascia has been estimated to account for around 20-30% of the body's total volume. There's several ways we may prevent or treat fascial issues. It means that we are willing to walk alongside another person in whatever journey they’re on without judgement. When we hold space for other people, we are present, we listen, we open our hearts, offering unconditional support. We make the person feel safe, heard, and accepted. Being connected to what someone is feeling – physically, emotionally, and mentally. Protecting their innate power as a birthing woman.
My doula bag is full of helpful items that I bring into the birth space, but sometimes I find I don’t even go into my bag. I find that my most powerful tools are my hands, my soothing, encouraging voice, calmness, knowledge, and my unyielding support of and belief in the woman who is labouring in front of me. Being open to the moment, to the experience, present and aware, without ego can be such an incredibly rewarding and powerful thing. Building a safe, supportive space, offering unconditional support. I observe her, and if what she is doing is working for her, then I don’t need to fiddle with it. I don’t need to be ‘doing something’ all the time. (This is a concept that I had to learn to let go and not feel like I should be doing something all the time as they have ‘hired’ me and I should be ‘on the job’ so to speak). As a doula I feel that I shouldn’t be fostering a sense of dependency, but instead fostering a spirit of independence.

It is also very important to me that I make sure the birth environment is a quiet, nurturing space, and maintain this throughout her labour. Making sure that others also respect this space. It is my goal that once our journey together at this sacred time is complete, my birthing Goddess and her partner feel like “We did it!!” not “We couldn’t have done it without you”.

The Foragers Corner Hello fellow wild food foragers, my name is Kimberly and I am the owner of Silver Sage Cottage. I study edible plants in our local area for basic survival and fun. It’s surprising the amount of wild food, medicine and useful plant resources that are available to us in nature. I will be showcasing one, safe, easy to identify, wild edible plant each month. I will provide a photo, a common name, a botanical name, some basic information about the plant and a recipe to try. I forage and eat the plants showcased and know them to be safe, however I encourage you to do your own research and ensure that you have the correct plant before eating it. Disclaimer: I am not responsible for what you ingest, you are wholly responsible for your own safety. If you are unsure, please feel free to contact me for help with identification at Silver Sage Cottage 0498076683.
WARRIGAL GREENS (Tetragonia Tetragonioides) Greetings foraging friends, this month we have a delicious native plant to try. This hardy beach dune succulent, grows in salty sandy soils, mangrove mud flats, and other low lying coastal and hinterland areas. This plant must be cooked as it contains oxalic acids; blanching will remove most oxalates. Eating it with dairy will also bind the oxalic acid making it safer to eat. But please, don’t fear oxalic acid as unsafe though, because Parsley contains high amounts of it too. LEAVES: leaves are used the same as spinach. It can be added to omelettes or scrambled eggs, spanakopita or fetta and spinach pies, as a stir-fry vegetable, in soups and stews, pesto, pasta and anywhere spinach is used. Chickens and birds love it. Snails and slugs hate it; so, it’s a great companion plant for delicate veggies. MEDICINAL: Antioxidant, high in Vitamin C, full of fibre, used to treat ulcers and other gastric issues.

WARRIGAL GREENS PESTO Ingredients 1 cup blanched Warrigal Greens 1 cup basil leaves or rocket leaves ½ cup macadamia nuts 1 clove garlic ¾ cup grated parmesan cheese ½ cup olive oil, coconut oil or macadamia oil Method: Blend ingredients together in a blender. Store in a jar in the fridge. Serve with pasta, use it as a dip or as a sandwich spread.
As always, please do your own research and stay safe out there in the wild. I hope you have enjoyed this year’s Foragers Corner articles as much as I have enjoyed bringing them to you. Have a blessed Merry Christmas everyone and I look forward to foraging with you all again in the New Year.
Kimberly.
