The Horse Report Equestrian Qld fundamental series

The Equestrian Queensland Fundamental Series includes educational videos to support Equestrian Queensland members and all equestrians on their journey of mastering the foundations to successfully re-train an ex racehorse.

This project has been funded by the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) through their Racing Animal Welfare Grants Program and will support the promotion of "life after racing", training and opportunities for new careers and enhance welfare and safety.

The Equestrian Queensland (EQ) Fundamental Series initiative will promote high quality health care to retired race horses on their transition from the racing industry.

The EQ Fundamental Series begins with Dr Kate Fenner and Understanding OTT Behaviour.

Dr Fenner demonstrates the use of combined reinforcement and the importance of recognising your ex racehorses emotional levels and how to build your bubble.

The EQ Fundamental Series continues with Mattea Davidson and The Start Of Re-education With Ground Work.

Mattea Davidson shows the importance of first training your ex racehorse from the ground. As demonstrated, this will start to establish the ideal foundations from the ground prior to beginning riding.

The EQ Fundamental Series continues with Hygain's Holly Mills and Equine Nutrition. Holly Mills provides nutritional advice for ex racehorses that will assist you in transitioning your horses' feed to support their new performance or recreation needs.

EPISODE 5: The EQ Fundamental Series continues with Mattea Davidson and Building Confidence With Consistent Communication and Training. Mattea Davidson shows examples of a consistent training routine and why having a plan is so important with your ex racehorse to build confidence.

Kathryn shows the importance of having a saddle fitter assess your OTT for their saddle requirements and any changes that may occur during their retraining. Saddle fitting is an important aspect of your horse's welfare.

The EQ Fundamental Series continues with Kate Dreverman (Rogers) and Problem Solving - Adding Tools To The Toolbox.

Kate explains how to build trust with your OTT horse by adding tools to their toolbox, helping them handle situations that may arise in the future.
