THF Briefing A Message from Matt Stevens, CEO Friends and family of The Honor Foundation – I hope you are all doing well. This newsletter is reaching your mailbox a bit later than usual because we have been working around the clock and behind the scenes to launch our EIGHTH and NINTH campuses and preparing for a legion of fall events!! We want to keep you, our supporters, in the loop about all of the incredible growth and accomplishment our Fellows and the team have seen over the past few months. We have exciting news to report: as of this summer, we now have 2,235 graduates of the THF program and we’ve
opened new campuses at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) in Washington State and at Fort Campbell in Tennessee to serve even more members of the SOF community. We have incredible, generous donors such as the JTMF Foundation, the State of Tennessee, the Wounded Warrior Project who have made all of this possible,and we have grown our network across the board through our fundraising efforts, Treks, and community outreach. THF is also proud to report we received a four star rating from Charity Navigator. Though a majority of the year is behind us, our energy remains high to carry us through the end of 2023 stronger than ever–with eyes on our Tenth Anniversary in 2024.
My sincere gratitude to The Navy SEAL Foundation - our founding partner, all of our supporters, volunteers, partners, donors, faculty, coaches, mentors, the THF board, staff and their families for joining us in our mission. Here We Grow Again Meet the newest additions to the THF family. Brian Sweigart
Josh Burch
Board Member
Director of People, TN | Fort Campbell
Brian is the COO and co-founder of Surefox North America, a veteran-owned security consulting firm, where he oversees the daily operations of over 800 employees. Brian has been involved in risk management for over 20 years with extensive experience in the military and as a private security consultant . Prior to co-founding Surefox, Brian served in the US Army for 12 years with two combat deployments, and then four years in Abu Dhabi as a security consultant to the United Arab Emirates.
Shelby Higgs Program Coordinator, San Diego Shelby is a California native, born and raised in San Diego, California, and is the daughter of a veteran 30yr Navy SEAL and 15yr Navy Air Traffic Controller. Growing up in San Diego, she has been surrounded by military culture her whole life, and is excited to take on a role where she can give back to those who have served. She is currently on track to graduate with her BA in Psychology from University of California, San Diego and spends her time outside of THF rock climbing, snowboarding, and silversmithing.
Sam Dement Director of Programs, JBLM Sam retired after 21 years of serving in the US Army, starting as an infantryman in the 82nd Airborne Division before spending over a decade as a Green Beret with the 1st Special Forces Group. Shortly after retirement, Sam attended UW Seattle’s Executive MBA program, graduating in the summer of 2022. Sam joins The Honor Foundation team as the Director of Programs for our new campus in Washington to serve the SOF men and women at Joint Base Lewis Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
Josh currently serves The Honor Foundation as a Director of People in the Nashville & Fort Campbell, KY area, which affords him the opportunity to continue his passion for service through development of initiatives to support the Special Operations community, Veterans, Spouses, and the community around him. Josh attributes his compassion for others and the experiences gained throughout his 25+ years of service as a Green Beret in the U.S. Army, to be a major factor in his ability to contribute to these efforts.
Shannon Waters Program Coordinator, Fort Liberty Shannon was born and raised in a small town in Massachusetts (alongside her husband). Shannon holds a BA in Art from Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NH. She has been a proud SOF military spouse for 12 years. She enjoys working out and spending as much time as possible with her husband, their two daughters, and their dogs.
Shane Minnick Director of Programs, TN | Fort Campbell Shane was born and raised in Minnesota and took full advantage of the fishing opportunities Minnesota provided while growing up. He joined the Army in 1993 and served within the 101st Airborne Division through several positions ranging from an infantryman to a Long-Range Surveillance Detachment Team Leader. Shane graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course in 2001 and then served within the 5th Special Forces Group through 2023. The military gave him everything he signed up for; he could not have chosen a better path. (cont’d next pg)

Jacque Edwards Program Coordinator, TN | Fort Campbell Jaqcue cares deeply about relationship building, and that has guided her professional experience. She is the spouse of a soldier in the Army’s 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. Her husband, Jonny has been a part of First Battalion, 160th SOAR for almost 22 years. This gave her the opportunity to become an active member in the Regiment’s Family Readiness Group (FRG). She learned a lot about volunteering with and supporting other Military Spouses that were in similar situations, finding that this group could be the “family” she leaned on while her husband was away serving our country. She welcomes any chance for a cup of coffee to share more about her experience!
Skip McKee Director of Impact, Northeast | Rockies Having spent the last 19 years in the advertising and strategic consulting arenas, Skip has built a number of organizations from the ground up in a variety of verticals. After being part of The Honor Foundation’s Leadership Circle for the past two years, the ability to champion our nation’s Special Operations Forces and all that THF stands for as a member of the Impact Team, was a once in a lifetime chance to make a difference. Skip and his family split time between Boston and Park City, Utah. When he’s not front and center for THF, he’s likely praying for MORE SNOW!
Marleen Livingstone Director of Impact, Mid-Atlantic For nearly 3 decades Marleen Livingstone has been leading nonprofit organizations to fundraising success. With extensive fundraising experience, Marleen brings perspective and expertise on a wide range of topics. Some of Marleen’s areas of expertise include: strategic planning; major gift solicitation and stewardship; corporate engagement and partnership; grant research, writing and follow-up; campaign management; annual giving and communications; board development and committee management; team building; database implementation and administration; and marketing. Most recently Marleen led development teams at Penn State University and the AKC Canine Health Foundation.
Rebekah Alvord Director of People, JBLM Rebekah has worked in the nonprofit sector for many years serving diverse populations with a high degree of intuition, empathy, and professionalism regardless of circumstance. She aspires to empower all individuals and organizations to develop a genuinely optimistic outlook so that each entity can move from ‘survival mode’ to ‘thriving growth’. Rebekah is a proud SOF military spouse and after moving to the JBLM area in 2020, she now considers herself a true fan of the PNW.

Program Updates & Graduations Congratulations to our Spring and Summer 2023 Fellows! At the conclusion of the spring and summer cohorts, the THF Alumni welcomed 379 more graduates to its tribe. We are proud to have celebrated the achievements of our Fellows who completed the program this spring and summer -- both virtually and in-person: Group 63 (Camp Lejeune), Group 64 (Fort Liberty), Group 65 (Eglin), Group 66 (Tampa), Group 67 (San Diego), Group 68 (Virtual), Group 69 (Virginia Beach), Group 70 (Virtual), Group 71 (Virtual) and Group 72 (Virtual).

Welcome: THF JBLM Campus! JBLM, The Honor Foundation is excited to serve you! Thanks to the generous support of the JTMF Foundation, THF is thrilled to announce its expansion to the Lakewood, WA area to serve the SOF men and women at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. With the additional support of the Wounded Warrior Project and Pierce Community College, THF is honored to be welcomed to the community and take part in the transition experience of numerous individuals and their families.
Now Serving: Fort Campbell! THF is also proud to share that we opened a new campus in Tennessee/Fort Campbell. We will bring our proprietary transition program to the home of 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), one of the most decorated active-duty United States Army Special Forces groups in the armed forces, the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), and a large community of other retired and active SOF. This expansion is being made possible by the generous patriots of our Nashville Benefit Dinner, The Legion Fund, and the State of Tennessee, becoming the first campus to be sponsored with state funding. We could not have done this without you. For the last few years, THF has been building a foothold among business and community leaders in the Tennessee/Fort Campbell area in preparation for this natural expansion, in hopes that it will have even more connections to offer the graduates of their program. We are excited to see how this community will continue to grow in the Tennessee/Fort Campbell area.

Connections Outside of the Classroom Fellows travel across the US for Treks Treks are one of the pillars of the THF Program -- an opportunity for Fellows to immerse themselves in various companies and organizations to learn about roles, culture, operations and a variety of industries. With this experience, Fellows are able to meet with business leaders in their area and travel to a metropolitan city to expand their knowledge, create new connections and practice their networking skills – all to help with their transition after active duty service. THF’s People Team organized both in-person and virtual “visits” -with several campuses having the opportunity to welcome Fellows into their offices while others participated in Zoom calls with the Virtual Fellows -- all to provide a learning opportunity to Fellows across all THF campuses.
This spring, Fellows visited Seattle, Houston, Raleigh and Charlotte in addition to businesses in their own backyard – San Diego, Virginia Beach, Tampa, and Wilmington.

Alumni Reunions Across the Campuses The THF Alumni Tribe – a “community post community”. A support system. A network for life. The THF People Team across our campuses continue to create opportunities for our Fellows to connect with each other after graduation…and what better way to stay engaged with the organization and other Fellows in the area than to have a fun evening to network and celebrate.

SOF Week 2023 | Tampa, FL THF gathered in Tampa with our valued community partner, the Global SOF Foundation, as well as hundreds of others for the annual conference in May. SOF Week is a natonal convention for the U.S Special Operations Forces and includes a diverse agenda and networking opportunities that include professional development sessions, such as the SOF for LIFE transition seminar with THF, operator-driven discussions and panels, and family-focused conversations. Thank you to GSOF for generosity and support. We had a great time in 2023 and we look forward to being a part of the SOF Community Corridor again for International SOF Week in 2024!

When Time, Talent & Treasure Come Together To Serve The Mission of The Honor Foundation
he accepted a job with CAE. THF actively engages with alumni across the country and George quickly engaged with the Tampa team as an active volunteer to the program that served him. He gave off his personal time. He then created an opportunity for THF to engage with senior leadership at CAE to explore their interest in engaging with us for talent and the gift of treasure. CAE leaned in with us early, hired another THF Alumnus that moved to Tampa Bay, Austin ?. It was then that George and Austin assisted with the discussion of the gift of treasure and within 6 months of that activation CAE generously donated to the THF mission.
This Fall our San Diego cohort will visit the CAE campus in Dallas, TX to learn more about their company and industry and in the Spring of 2024 the Tampa cohort with visit the CAE campus in Tampa— another amazing demonstration of CAE’s gift of time to our “When we create relationships with mission!

2023 has been monumental for the THF’s Impact Team as they have continued their hard work to help keep our community of supporters involved and tied to our mission. They have no intention on slowing down before the year ends. If anything, they have fully ramped up for the fall with every intention to finish stronger than ever. THF Special Events are always a very fun time - no matter what city we happen to be visiting. Our cocktail parties, Swim, and Benefit Dinners offer an opportunity for our supporters to not only learn more about our mission but to personally
get to know the incredible men and women of the Special Operations community, making personal bonds that last in the future.

Swim for SOF 2023 On September 16, 2023, over 100 swimmers gathered in San Diego for The Honor Foundation’s Third Annual Swim for SOF presented by Surefox, a high-performance athletic challenge that raises funds and awareness for The Honor Foundation’s mission to help Special Operations Forces transition from military to civilian life. The event brought together an amazing group of athletes, supporters, sponsors, volunteers, and spectators, who spent the day united in patriotism and enthusiastic support of our Special Operations Forces veterans.
This event, which comprises of a 3.3 mile swim across the San Diego Bay to the U.S.S. Midway and a litany of accompanying workouts, takes determination, focus, and courage, both physically and mentally, but the challenge is made easier by the heart and camaraderie of all those involved. The swimmers, who were made up of THF Alumni, event sponsors, and mission supporters, showed their grit in an incredible display of athleticism, conquering the open water swim and demanding tribute workouts. The first and second race finishers were Mia Marinos and Kaylee Jamison, respectively. Top fundraising awards went to the Batten Safe team, Dennis Noona-Sloan and swimmer Jessica Migdal.
