FALL SPORTS PREVIEW

NO COST YOUTH PROGRAMS The Winnie Stowell Hospital District is pleased to announce that it has two programs designed to improve their quality of life for the youth in our community through strengthening their emotional well-being and improving visual processing difficulties.

WSHD Youth Counseling Program – Provides no cost youth counseling services.

Our Licensed Professional Counselors specialize in youth counseling. Through this program, it is the hope of the District that area children be given the chance to obtain assistance, advice, and guidance as they face a wide range of challenges, such as behavioral issues or substance abuse problems.

WSHD Irlen Method Testing & Treatment Program – Do you have reason to believe that your child has a learning disability? If so, please contact the District and let us provide you with information on the Irlen Program. Through this program, District will pay to have an Irlen diagnostician, with over 20 years of experience, test your child to determine whether sensitivity and visual processing difficulties are impacting your child’s reading, learning, and the ability to focus and stay on task. If so, the District will also pay for corrective glasses.

Both of these programs are available to any eligible child between the ages 5-19 years old that is 1) a resident of the District; and 2) eligible to attend school in the East Chambers Independent School District, grades Pre-K through 12th grade.

We have 82 members in the marching band this year. Our Marching season has been very different this year with having to do social distance spacing. We were able to have a few weeks of summer band to get started with marching fundamentals. We did a lot more in full group setting instead of breaking off into small groups like we normally do. We were able to achieve the goal of getting back to playing our instruments! We have taken as many protocols as possible- social distance, working in the same groups, and wearing mask when not performing. The Buccanner Band is ready to get started with our season supporting the Bucs at our home game this week against HJ! “It is definitely a year to be flexible. We will be learning as much as we can and have “High hopes” for this school year to be successful!” Holly Cravy Our marching season will be longer than normal with UIL Region Marching contest already being moved to November 14th at Port Neches Groves HS. UIL Area level marching will be Dec. 12th in a location to be announced.

all and were 7-0 in district, for the District 12-3A-I championship. The last two season the Bucs have been bounced out of the playoff by the Grandview Zebras, who have gone on to win the state championship in each season. This Buccaneer’s senior class are looking to finish the mission they set out to accomplish, starting back in

junior high. “We have always said we wanted to be the class to bring EC to the top,” Bucs four year varsity lineman Payton Martin said when asked about winning a state championship. “We know what we have to do.

We have to work hard, and come ready to play every day. We know practice is where the games are won.”

The Bucs are led by coach Russ Sutherland, who has been the general in getting East Chambers football to new heights. “At this point I think we are the only team that can stop us,” Sutherland said in an interview with 12 News. “We need to stay hungry, work hard, and show up every day ready to improve. We have a lot of returning starters which is nice to have.” The Bucs are once again heavy favorites to take the district crown. A few key games to watch for are: September 11th vs Hamshire-Fannett, October 9th vs Anahuac, and October 16th @ Buna. All the Buccaneers home games will be 50%

Returning to guide the Buccaneer offense will be the 12-3A-I Co-Newcomer of the Year, sopho-

Senior running back Brayden Guillory will also get carries with senior fullback Mason Schepf and junior fullback Cooper McKay will also see time in East Chambers’ backfield.

Senior wide out Keyrin Green returns to lead a receiver squad which will include senior receiver Jonah Smith and junior receiver K.K. Morris. The offensive line returns completely intact as the 12-3A-I Co-Lineman of Year, right tackle Payton Martin, comes back along with senior right guard Tristan Stewart (2nd team all-district), senior center Colin Broussard, senior left guard Brandon Silcox (2nd team all-district) and junior left tackle Hector Martinez.

Sophomore lineman Jordan Bradley will also see time along the line.

DEFENSE

Seven starters return to the East Chambers defense in 2020. Junior lineman Slade Parnell (2nd team all-district) returns along with Martin to lead a defensive line which will also feature Stewart, junior lineman Trevor Moreno and sophomore Derek Gaines.

Schepf (2nd team all-district) and senior linebacker Devyn Trevino will lead a linebacker corp which will also feature McKay and junior Damien Moreno.

Green (1st team all-district) and Guillory (2nd team all-district) return to their safety spots and will roam the Buccaneer secondary along with Ceasar, Morris and Perrault.

SPECIAL TEAMS Sophomore Sebastian Melchor and freshman Leonardo Avila will vie for the place kicking duties for East Chambers while Melchor and sophomore Jesus Martinez will battle for the punting duties.

Ceasar and Guillory will handle the return duties for the Buccaneers.
