A state of mind Broussard, Edwards, George, Finnex qualify for state track meet SCOTT REESE WILLEY Hometown Press East Chambers High School junior Charlie Edwards and senior Konnor George and Xavier Broussard have qualified to compete in the state track and field tournament this month. Edwards finished the regional meet last Saturday in first place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.94 seconds. Broussards leaped 44-feet, 7.5inches to finish second in the triple jump. Konnor George hurled the discus 113 feet to place second in that event. Anahuac’s Trey Finnex earned gold in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.31 seconds and finished second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.32 seconds. The top two winners in each event advance to the state track and field tournment on Friday, May 11, and Saturday, May 12, at the University of Texas in Austin. Local athletes who competed at the regional track and field tournament, held in Whitehouse on Friday, April 27, and Saturday, April 28, include: Asia Fontenot of Anahuac, who finished the 100 meter dash in 13.38 seconds to finish sixth. East Chambers freshman Leslee Harmon finished the race in seventh place with a time of 13.43. Whitney Abshier finished the 1600 meter run in 18th place with a time of 5-minutes, 56.76-seconds. East Chambers’ junior Nicole Honea finished the 100 meter hurdles in fifth place with a time of 16.98 seconds. Anahuac’s 4x200 meter relay team (four runners who each run 200 meters) finished in third place with a time of 1-minute, 47.73seconds. (team comprised of

Caroline Reddell, a junior at East Chambers, leaped 9 feet to finish fourth in the pole vault. EC junior Konnor George tossed the shot put 35-feet, 3-inches to finish in fifth. In the boys division, Glenn Roberts, a junior at East Chambers, finished the 100 meter dash in eighth place with a time of 11.67. Jack Lowrance, an East Chambers High School senior, finished the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 18.46 seconds. East Chambers’ 4x100 meter relay team (each of the four runners runs 100 meters) finished
seventh with a time of 43.67 seconds (team comprised of Jarrod Guillory, Tyler Chambless, Bryant Motl and Glenn Roberts). East Chambers’ 4x200 meter relay team (each of the four runners runs 100 meters) finished fifth with a time of 1-minute, 31.11-seconds (team comprised of Jarrod Guillory, Dominique Marshall, Bryant Motl and Glenn Roberts). Anahuac’s 4x200 meter relay team finished eighth with a time of 1-minute, 31.49 seconds. (team is comprised of Martice Henry, Kendrick Whittington, Porter May and Trey Finnex). East Chambers’ Robin Peschel leaped 5-feet, 8-inches to finish the high jump in ninth place. He leaped 5-feet, 10-inches in the preliminaries that day.
