In the County Attorney Scott closest race of the TBCD Peal, District Judge elections challenger Randy McDonald, Scott Kahla narrowly District Attorney Cheryl out-gained incumbent Swope Lieck, and Dorothy Hamilton by a Precinct No. 1 Constable margin of only 27 votes. Dennis Dugat were all Kahla gathered 409 unopposed on the ballot.

Irregularities at TBCD?????

Maybe, But Not Who You Think

opinion, but I wanted to clear up a few things. A couple of week's ago, I mentioned in my regular column that I was sitting

on some information and word got back to me about several people speculating about the information. I want to lay out a few ground rules first and then I will get into the subject matter. First thing is that I purposefully waited until after the election to bring this forward because I didn't want to influence the TBCD elections and I believe that I accomplished that goal of not providing some damaging information a week or

so before election day.

The second thing is that I have a copy of the information in my files, but I will not mention any names because there is no reason to add any more conflict to the situation and I believe the voters had their say in the direction of TBCD. The information has to do with the board members of TBCD and not any employees.

When a director is sworn in they raise their right hand and swear that they have not paid for any

votes or promised any services for a vote. The information that I have a copy of is a screenshot of a facebook conversation between two persons talking about TBCD and the conversation was deleted, but not before someone else took a screenshot of the conversation and a copy of the screenshots found its way to my possession. The details of the conversation are that person number 1 is claiming that a director promised to

1 completion on 2 tries for 24 yards to finish out the stats in the passing department.

by Wade Thibodeaux Okay, the election is behind us.......or, is it???? I guess I'll go ahead and put my two cents into the conversation because after all, I'm sure that the powers that be will listen to every word that I have to say. Biden was declared the winner ......by the media. Now, it's not really the media's job to determine the winner, but on the other hand I can't remember when was the last time that they were wrong.....maybe the 2000 election with the hanging chads in Florida, but anyway they have an audience to appease and in this up to the second I have to be first news cycle, it puts a lot of pressure on the media to be first. This is the year 2020 and with all of the other crazy things that have happened this year, it's only fitting that the election be as screwed up as it is and the apparently losing incumbent screaming foul.

There does seem to be a lot

of irregularities and also due to the Covid situation and the mail in ballots the process could be ripe for a little cheating.

With all of that being said, it's really pretty easy to figure it out. This is a math problem, not an english problem and so in my little pea pickin mind you just need to take off your shoes and use your fingers and toes to count the ballots.

If it was an english exam, we might get hung up on the definition of a word and have several opinions and so that would be a subjective situation that would be based on personal feelings. Former President Bill Clinton phrased it best when he used the defense "It depends on what the definition of is .....is".

However, this is an objective situation in which you simply need to count the legal ballots and determine a winner. After all, 1 plus 1 is still equal to 2 and there

is no discrepancy in that equation. Now, where the rub comes in is with some of these States that maybe fudged a little on the ballots.and allowed some to arrive a few days late or maybe didn't confirm the signature on the mail ballots, or some other method of not exactly following the law.

Thankfully, I have interest in two Counties where I have the utmost confidence in the election officials and I would bet the farm that 10 years from now you could pull out the ballots and do a recount and come up with the same results as we did on election night in those two Counties.

However, that is not the case in many places and therefore we have all of this controversy. It's pretty simple folks, the election officials should be transparent and allow opposing parties to verify the ballots cast, and if they won't allow transparency, then they have something to hide and there's a problem.

There will be an enormous amount of money spent on attorney's and professionals of one description or another and the entire process will keep this Country in turmoil for several more

weeks. All of these ballots should have been documented as to arrival time and other pertinent information and it should be simple to recreate the election night results, but when you dump everything into one big pile and go "Oh well, they are all mixed up now", we have a problem and I refer you back to my previous comments about transparency.

election turns out and whenever we have a President sworn into office, I continue to have faith in this Country and I will remind you that we have an election every four years and to get out and do your part to get your candidate that agrees with your philosophy elected. For a guy that wasn't going to talk about politics in this column, I sure have been visiting that subject alot

I'm also pretty sure that this is not the last that we have heard about this particular subject because both sides are still pretty far apart in their thinking and this Country is pretty divided. SOME WORDS ABOUT TEXAS

By Tumbleweed Smith Texas is right in the middle of the southern border of the United States with a lengthy coastline along the Gulf of Mexico. The state is 850 miles wide and nearly that tall.

Separated from Mexico by the Rio Grande, the Texas/Mexico border is the longest international border of any state in the US. West Texas has desert, cactus, mountains, canyons and a sky beyond measure. The only 2 national parks in Texas (Big Bend and Guadalupe Mountains) welcome visitors who love to see the fall color at Guadalupe Mountains’ McKittrick Canyon and hike the mountain trails at Big Bend.

Ranching is a major West Texas enterprise and cowboys do things the way they’ve been doing them for centuries (with a few exceptions like the helicopter for herding cattle). Oil is king out west.

The Permian Basin is one of the richest sources of oil and natural gas in the world.

Some say the Panhandle

is flat, but it houses the Palo Duro Canyon, the second deepest in the country, right behind the Grand Canyon. It’s 100 miles long and nearly a thousand feet deep.

The Hill Country is in the center of the state full of hills and valleys, rivers and creeks, a favorite place to view wildflowers in the spring and experience a variety of cultures. You’ll find Germans, Wends, Czechs and Poles, singing societies and brass bands and see stone houses and barns and solid rock fences. You can stop at a wayside tavern or an old general store.

Moving eastward, lush green forests cover 43 counties, nearly 11 million acres.

East Texas pines and hardwoods produce 500 cubic feet of timber each year. The forests are renewable and every year Texans plant more trees than are harvested.

East Texas is also a land of lakes, some you can barely see across, others full of shadowy inlets where boaters could get lost without a local guide.

The first oil in Texas was drilled near Beaumont.

NASA, in Clear Lake, is the home of Mission Control for moon and shuttle missions.

South Texas begins at San Antonio, home to the state’s most familiar landmark, the Alamo and the Texas city most visited by tourists. Its River Walk has restaurants, shops and live entertainment.

Palm trees and citrus are the major features of the Rio Grand Valley. The tropical climate, yearround flowering plants, wide boulevards and interesting canals bring residents of northern states to spend winters there.

Nearby South Padre is an ever-growing destination for fishing, boating, beachcombing and relaxing.

There’s just no other place like Texas.

Twenty-One individuals were arrested and booked into the Chambers County Jail between Sunday, November 1 and Friday, November 6.

Warrants from last week are also as followed.

The individuals have been

magistrated and formally informed of the charges against them. However, just because these individuals were arrested and magistrated does not mean they are guilty of the crimes they are charged with committing. Also, not

everyone charged with a crime is alleged to have committed the crime in Chambers County, but perhaps was simply arrested in Chambers County on outstanding warrant(s) while in Chambers County.

Instances in which individuals

were arrested on outstanding warrants, their original conviction and the reason they are on probation or parole, if available, is included in parenthesis set.

• First degree felony: punishable by up to 99 years or life in prison and a $10,000 fine.

• Second degree felony: punishable by up to 20 years and a $10,000 fine.

• Third degree felony: punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

• State jail felony: punishable by up to two years in prison.

• Deferred adjudication probation: typically offered to the first time offenders. Defendants’ judgement is deferred until later, if ever. If they successfully complete the terms of their probation, they are not judge and thus have no criminal conviction in connection to the offense. However, if they accept deferred adjudication probation but fail to abide by the terms of their probation, they could be sentenced to the maximum time in prison allowable under the law without the benefit of a trail by jury.

Trevor Brazile Captures Eighth Career Steer Roping Gold Buckle Trevor Brazile, the $7-million cowboy became an eight-time steer roping world champion in dramatic fashion Saturday night.

Brazile needed to rope a steer in Round 10 to win the world title and the average – and that's exactly what he did like he's done so many times before in his legendary career.

The Decatur, Texas, cowboy clocked a 12.4-second time in Round 10 to win his record 26th career gold buckle at the 2020 Clem McSpadden National Finals Steer Roping at the Kansas Star Arena.

Brazile finished with $117,459 in the PRCA | RAM World Standings to edge runner-up Scott Snedecor's $110,779.

Brazile earned $69,072 at the NFSR. "If you don't go do your job and you don't execute, somebody else is the world champ," said Brazile, 43. "Once they told me what I was doing, that was it. I just went and made my run. This is awesome. I want everybody to know that my thanks goes to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He blessed me so much. I'm just thankful for the opportunity and the blessings that have come my way, and we were able to capitalize on this.

Brazile placed in six rounds at the NFSR and won the average with a time of 124.5 seconds on 10 head to capture his eighth steer roping gold buckle to go with the ones he won in 2006-07, 2011, 201315 and 2019.

Brazile's eight steer roping gold buckles are second on the all-time list behind only ProRodeo Hall of Famer Guy Allen's 18.

When Brazile, the last cowboy to compete, roped his steer in 12.4 seconds in Round 10, it gave him the average win because he was the only competitor to tie down 10, and that in turn clinched his world championship.

That became a reality when Scott Snedecor, a four-time world champ (2005, 2008 and 2017-18) registered a no time in the final round.

Snedecor roped right before Brazile, and when Snedecor came up empty it changed Brazile's game plan.

Entering Round 10, Brazile was holding a slim $1,965 lead in the world standings over Snedecor. Brazile also was sitting second in the average, 1.2 seconds behind Snedecor.

"Scott had a steer they had been 9 seconds on, and I had a steer they had been threetenths longer on in 10, so I was prepared for almost every scenario but that," Brazile said. "He's roped his butt off all weekend, and my hat's off to him. He pushed me as hard as anybody has ever pushed.

It is one of those things where I can never let off because he doesn't. He's a great competitor. I was mentally preparing myself to have to be eight seconds. It was a huge difference in the shuffle of the cards right there."

Snedecor was second in the average with a 110.9-second time on nine.

The average played the final factor in deciding the world champion because it paid six places – $27,347 for the winner, $22,632 for second, $17,917 for third, $13,202 for fourth, $8,487 for fifth and $4,715 for sixth. The round

win paid $9,155.

Snedecor was trying to digest how things unfolded in Round 10.

"I think the steer was a little slow leaving out of there and I might have slowed up too much," Snedecor said. "The horse kind of quit me a little early maybe and the steer just rolled over and got up. I felt like I rode good and scored good and got out and had it on him to tie him fast, but it just wasn't my turn.

"I did my part I felt like for 10 steers. I scored and rode good, and it all felt good. I just got out-roped a little bit. Trevor earned it. He roped better than I did for 10 steers. We go lots of miles and it comes down to one steer at the end of the deal. It's all good fun. I still got out of there with good money and I was glad to see him win another championship."

Brazile, who was riding Salty, 19, a horse loaned to him by fellow steer roper John Bland, has won the NFSR average five times – 2012, 2014-15, 2019-20. He entered his 23rd NFSR $12,865 away from reaching the $7 million mark in career earnings – no one else has broken $3.6 million in ProRodeo.

Brazile is now at $7,056,207 in career PRCA earnings.

By Round 4 Friday, Brazile reached and passed the milestone by earning $7,577 after placing second with a 9.3-second run. Brazile won Round 3 with a 9.9-second run extending his PRCA record to 74 career total round wins at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo – in tie-down roping and team roping – and steer roping.

Brazile has won 36 rounds at the NFSR, second only to Allen's 48.

Brazile's 26 gold buckles include a PRCA-record 14 in all-around (2002-04, 200615, 2018), three in tie-down roping (2007, 2009-10) and one in team roping (2010) to go with the NFSR buckles.

Before the start of the 2018 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, Brazile announced that season was going to be the final one for him rodeoing full time so he could spend more time with his family – wife, Shada; son, Treston; and daughters, Style and Swayzi.

"I told them I wasn't going to steer rope much next year," Brazile said. "I only went to 20 this year, but I'm not even going to do that next year. I probably will not even go to enough to make the (NFSR), so this is a good way to leave here for me."

Outside of Brazile, Jesse Tierney had a memorable Saturday, splitting the Round 6 win and claiming the Round 7, 8 and 9 titles outright a day after he didn't earn any money in the first five rounds.

"This felt outstanding," Tierney said. "(Friday night) was a real humbling night. I drew some good cattle (Saturday night) and just focused on what I know how to do, and it felt really good to have that kind of success. Winning one round is an honor, winning four is something I never dreamed of."

Tuf Cooper, Brazile’s brotherin-law, finished sixth in the steer roping world standings and by earning $25,903 at the NFSR, he moved into the lead of the all-around standings

with $111,450.

Cooper, a four-time world champion – three in tie-down roping (2011-12, 2014) and one in the all-around (2017) – is competing in tie-down roping at the 2020 Wrangler NFR at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, Dec. 3-12.

“I did pretty good at the NFSR and I have the lead in the allaround now,” said Cooper, 29.

“But, Stetson has broncs and bulls each night and I have calves. Who knows what will happen? Stetson might ride all 10 (in his events), who knows?

Honestly my focus is winning the world championship in (tie-down) roping. If I win the world championship in (tiedown) roping I’m probably going to win the all-around.

“I’m coming in second (in tie-down roping) and I have a bunch to gain on Shad

(Mayfield). What I think is cool about the all-around this year is there are only three guys who have a chance to win it. The cool thing is Stetson, Clay (Smith) and I are all doing different events and it should be a lot of fun to see who wins.”

Mayfield leads the tie-down roping world standings with $156,668. Cooper has $67,189.

Brazile is second in the allaround with $94,804 but is not competing at the NFR. Stetson Wright is third in the allaround with $86,584 and will be competing in saddle bronc riding and bull riding in Arlington. Two-time team roping header world champion Clay Smith ($80,737) also is in the all-around mix as he returns to the NFR with Jade Corkill.

My sister was having a problem with squirrels climbing the post and emptying the bird feeders. So she “greased” the post and watched as the squirrels repeatedly slid down, never reaching the feeder. A problem became a source of entertainment!

“And the Devil was cast into the lake of fire and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever” (Revelation 20:10) And the Lord has the last laugh.

Well.... we had us an election! The official results not tallied yet, but looks as though Joe Biden will be #46.

Like it, love it, hate it, don’t blast me, I’m just stating the counts as they look right now.

So what happened?

Somewhere in the vicinity of 145 million Americans showed up

and did what we all too often take for granted.

They voted. In lines, in bad weather, by the millions.... they voted.

All races, sexes, religious denominations, and beliefs.... stood up and voted. To that I applaud all of us.

What happens now?

Well, I can think of a lot. Hopefully it begins with calmness.

With maturity. With healing. With respect.

With a support of your fellow man, woman and child.

This country is exhausted. Between Covid, election battles, civil unrest, and the utter chaos that has dictated our

lives this year, we are all tired. And that’s ignoring hurricane season for those of us on the coast.

So I will take a few moments to ask all of you, to lay down your anger. Stop the fighting.

Embrace your fellow man, and accept whatever the result is that officially comes out. Stand behind the person who leads our country, say a lot of prayers, and hope for a better tomorrow.

I have firm belief that we are a better country than we have shown.

That we don’t have to make fun of people for their appearance, that nothing is gained

by being cross to someone with differing opinions, and that we are a nation of peace.

Hate, discord, and negativity are utterly exhausting. It is time to become United.

I don’t know that I love anything about this election, except that it’s over. Please remember when WE stop being WE, then we will cease to be.

The United States of America is a United force. However this goes, we need to maintain the first word in the name of our country.

The application was assigned PUC Docket No. 51406. The proposed TCRF is requested in accordance with the Public Utility Regulatory Act § 36.209 and 16 TAC § 25.239. A TCRF allows a utility to recover its reasonable and necessary costs that have occurred since the end of the test year in the utility’s last base rate case for transmission infrastructure improvement and changes in wholesale transmission charges to the electric utility under a tariff approved by a federal regulatory authority. In its requested amendment, ETI is seeking recovery of costs for transmission capital investments it incurred from July 1, 2019 through August 31, 2020. ETI also seeks to recover approved transmission charges that are not otherwise being recovered through rates.

The proposed TCRF as amended would result in total TCRF retail revenues of approximately $51.0 million, which is $31.6 million in incremental annual TCRF revenue beyond ETI’s currently effective TCRF. This $31.6 million amount would be a 3.3% increase in ETI’s annualized non-fuel revenue requirement as compared to revenues approved in Docket No. 48371, ETI’s most recent base rate case, and a 2.1% increase in ETI’s overall annualized revenue requirement including fuel costs as compared to such revenues as approved in Docket No. 48371. The impact of the rate change on various customer classes will vary from the overall impact described in this notice.

ETI has requested that an intervention deadline and hearing request deadline of November 30, 2020 be established, and that, if no hearing is requested, the Commission adopt an order approving the proposed TCRF at or before its currently-scheduled open meeting on January 14, 2021. All customers in ETI’s Texas retail rate classes are affected by this request.

First, let me tell you who QDMA is if you don’t already know. The Q stands for “Quality”. That can include “trophy” bucks, but QDMA is more concerned with sustainable, high-quality deer populations, wildlife habitats and ethical hunting experiences through research, education, advocacy, and hunter recruitment.

Since its inception in

1988, it has grown to over 60,000 members, some in every state. Its ethical and professional standards have earned it the highest respect.

QDMA blends the art of hunting with the science of management.

As former director of the Texas Chapter of The Wildlife Society – a sciencebased, professional organization -- when QDMA speaks, I listen.

Lindsay Thomas’ article cites Dr. Kevin Keel, a wildlife disease expert, formerly at the University of Georgia, now at CaliforniaDavis. Dr. Keel and researchers examined 27 Bullwinkle deer from 14 states. It’s comforting to know that none of the infected deer were from the

same location. They were scattered. There was no epidemic.

Seemingly, it is not passed from one deer to another.

The reported deer came from a wide swath of America ranging from California to Georgia and up north to Minnesota.

Dr. Keel’s study included deer from age 6 months to 5.5 years. All but two were taken by hunters. The study determined that the deer were infected by a bacterium called Mannheimia granulomatis in the affected area, causing the moose-like nose swelling.

According to the study, the malady is not soon fatal to the diseased deer. Some were seen over several years. But, although it’s not a sudden

death cause, many of the deer seemed to be struggling nutritionally, which could make the deer more likely victims to other diseases, predators, or extreme weather.

TPWD wildlife biologists, Alan Cain and Ryan Schoeneberg, both replied to my questions about Bullwinkle deer in Texas. Ryan received one report of a possible Bullwinkle, but no photo accompanied it, thereby rendering it unconfirmed. Cain, TPWD’s whitetailed deer program leader, added that if an infected deer were harvested by Texas hunters, it shouldn’t be eaten.

If you should see one, though, take good pictures and contact TPWD.

Mary Gau, 91, of High Island, Texas, was called home on Tuesday, November 3, 2020.

She was born in Galveston, Texas, on February 27, 1929, to the late Noah and Audria Coleman Payton.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Elmer Gau; son, George

indicated that these two individuals that were having the Facebook conversation were very familiar with each other because of the casualness of the conversation and the fact that person number 2 indicated that they were familiar with the drainage ditch that person number 1 was referring to.

I want to clearly say that I was not on the phone conversation and therefore I do not have first hand knowledge of the conversation, but this was an exchange between

two people that for whatever reason decided to have this conversation on a Facebook platform and I believe that person number 1 really felt like they were being offered services for a vote. There is no room for this kind of behavior from an elected official and we should all feel like we are equally represented when we elect somebody and when we pay our taxes. Somewhere in the back of my mind I am having a thought that this may not be the only instance of this type of

behavior.....just the only one that crossed into my world. In the newspaper business we come across a lot of situations where we are put into the position of providing information against our friends and neighbors and it's not a good feeling.

I have fretted over how to handle this situation for a few weeks and I hope that I have done the proper thing and I hope that the elected official will clean up their act and represent all of us in the same professional manner.
