Chambers County Commissioners Court Votes to Reduce JP Courts and Constables

By Wade Thibodeaux   The Chambers County Commissioners Court met in regular session on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at 9:30 am. in the County Courtroom of the Chambers County Courthouse. The court dove right off into the agenda item that most of the people in the packed courtroom were interested in and that was the redistricting of the Justice of the Peace and Constables Precincts to reduce the number to either 4 or 5 from the current 6 Precincts. Several persons signed up to speak during the citizen's comments section of the agenda and Chambers County Judge allowed all of the elected officials that could possibly be affected to speak as well as several concerned citizens. A few of the comments were in support of reducing the number, but the overwhelming majority of the comments were opposed to reducing the Precincts. After about an hour of comments, when everybody that wanted to speak had an opportunity to do so, Commissioner Billy Combs made a motion to reduce the number of both the JP and Constables Precincts from 6 to 5. Commissioner Tommy Hammond provided a second and immediately Commissioner Jimmy Gore asked exactly which Precinct he was going to eliminate. Combs fired back that the restructuring of the Precincts due to the census would take

care of that. A discussion of the restructuring ensued and then a vote was taken on the motion which passed 3-1 with County Judge Jimmy Sylvia not voting, but having voiced his opposition to the reduction during comments from the Court. Commissioner Jimmy Gore was the only Commissioner voting against the reduction. A break was taken to seek legal advice on the boundary lines of the new Precinct. After the break, the Court reconvened and Commissioner Combs introduced a motion to combine JP Precincts 2 and 3, which would effectively eliminate Justice of the Peace Tracy Woody and Constable Donny Standley after they had finished serving out their current term. Commissioner Tommy Hammond provided the second to the motion and again the Court voted the exact same way with Combs, Hammond, and Tice in support, Gore against, and the Judge not needing to vote. The Court continued with the agenda and adjourned later in the afternoon after a lunch break. The next regular meeting of the Chambers County Commissioners Court was yesterday, Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at 9:30 am., but the press deadline for this week's version of The Hometown Press did not allow for coverage of that meeting.

EC Lassoes the Longhorns 42-7 By Wade Thibodeaux   The East Chambers Buccaneers got back on the winning track last Thursday evening as they took care of the Tarkington Longhorns by a score of 42-7. The game was not ever close as the Bucs scored 21 points in the first quarter while shutting out Tarkington and then added another touchdown to make it 28-0 at the

halftime break. Each team crossed the goal line in the third frame, which was the only time the Longhorns would score, and the score after three was 35-7. East Chambers added another score in the final quarter to make the score 42-7 when time ran out on the clock. Overall, the Bucs had 272 yards of total offense as they were plagued by three turnovers in the game, and

most of that was on the ground as they had 253 yards of rushing offense and only 19 yards through the air. The offense scored 4 touchdowns(all on the ground) and they were aided by a 55 yard punt return from KK Morris(#5) for a score and Wyatt Cash(#3) intercepted a pass from Tarkington and returned it across the goal line.

Hadyn Reeves(#6) had 21 carries for 142 yards and one touchdown while Garrett Reves(#16), Eliceo Marinez(#24), and Ashton Gage(#20) each crossed the goal line one time to round out the offensive scoring. East Chambers will now play Huntington at Lumberton Raider Stadium on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at 7:00 pm. GO BUCS!!!!!

By Wade Thibodeaux  Jose Vitor Leme won everything at the 2021 PBR Release the Beast World Championship bull riding in Las Vegas last weekend as he won the actual event, the year's Championship, and he set several World records in the process. The Brazilian is a former soccer player, but turned his attention to bull riding and is only the second man in the PBR history to win back to back world titles, joining his fellow countryman Silvano Alves with that distinction. Leme had mathematically won the World Championship before he even rode his last

bull in the World Finals Sunday, but that didn't stop him from getting on the back of Woopaa, the number one ranked bull in the PBR bull statistics and turning in a perfect ride of 50 points while Woopaa did his job and scored 48.75 for a total combined new World record 98.75 points. Leme won a Million dollars for his World Championship as well as a new Ford F-150, a gold buckle and another $300,000.00 for the Release the Beast title. He set numerous World records in his travels this season and is quickly becoming the best of the

best in the sport of bull riding. The Release the Beast World Finals is a grueling five day event in which contestants have to ride at least one bull in the first four days in order to make it to the semi finals round on Sunday. Then the top 12 scoring riders will advance to the final round where they will get on their sixth bull in five days with the hopes that their cumulative score will earn them the title of Release the Beast Champion. Score is kept for the entire year's series and the rider with the most points at the end of the series is the World

Champion. The bulls have their own competition as well as the bull's score is cumulative for the year's season and the top ranked bull at the conclusion of the season wins $100,000.00. The Release the Beast World Finals is moving to Texas next year with a date set for May 13-22 in Dickies Arena in Ft. Worth. A bull riders team series finale is planned for the first weekend in November in Las Vegas where bull riders will compete in teams of five across several events scattered around the Country. Bull fighters run towards problem situations as demonstrated in this photo. They ran towards the bull to help this rider make it to safety.

Getting on a bull is relatively easy.....he’s confined in a chute. Getting off of a bull is a whole different situation as this rider makes a forward dismount at the bulls directive.

And, we have lift off.
