Trinity Bay Takes No Action on General Managers Contract

Cody Croley and Andrew McGovern make a presentation to TBCD Board members and staff about an engineering project on the study of the Mayhaw Bayou Watershed.

By Wade Thibodeaux  The Trinity Bay Conservation District Board of Directors met in regular session on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at 9:00 am. at their office located at 2500 State Highway 124 in Stowell, Texas. Probably the single most important matter on the agenda was the last item on the agenda and it was to Discuss and take action, if necessary, on General Managers contract. The board retired to executive session at 10:47 am. and remained in executive session for a little over an hour, only to emerge and announce that they were not taking any action on the General Managers contract. James Gibson,

TBCD's General Manager has a contract that expires at the end of December 2021 and the board will have to deal with the details very soon. In other action, the board heard from their engineers about an engineering project that had been authorized under previous management to study the Mayhaw Bayou Watershed. The engineers reported that this was an engineering project with no construction funding attached to it and they were about halfway through the engineering portion and wanted direction from the board as to whether to proceed or pause the project. While much discussion was held (contd on page 4)

Garrett Reves(#16) waltzes into the endzone after busting through the defensive line on a quarterback keeper last Friday night. By Wade Thibodeaux The East Chambers Buccaneers traveled to Kirbyville last Friday evening to take on the Wildcats and came away with a 34-17 win. The Bucs started off a little rocky as they received the kickoff, but fumbled it away to set the Wildcats up in good field position. The defense stiffened and only allowed a field goal, but the Bucs started the game in the hole. After a few hard fought possessions, the Bucs got on the scoreboard and led 7-3 at the end of the first quarter. East Chambers

scored again and held Kirbyville scoreless in the second frame to take a 14-3 lead into the locker room at the halftime break. The Bucs put a little distance between themselves and the Wildcats by outsourcing them 14-7 in the third frame to lead 28-10 after three periods and then the Bucs found the endzone one more time, but missed the extra point on a bad snap in the fourth quarter. Kirbyville scored in the fourth as well, but it was too little, too late and the clock expired with the final score of 34-17 in favor of

the Bucs. East Chambers quarterback Jacoby Perrault(#10) was replaced during the second quarter to allow a sore ankle to rest, but he did complete 2 passes on 2 attempts for 25 total yards. That was the only passing for the night as his replacement Garrett Reves(#16) kept the ground game churning with 3 carries for 53 yards and a walk-in touchdown. He was assisted in the backfield by Hayden Reeves(#6) who had 144 yards on 23 carries and 2 trips across the goal line and KK Morris(#5) who sped

his way to 124 yards on only 5 carries and an equal number(2) of touchdowns. Overall the Bucs had 341 yards of total offense with 316 on the ground and 25 through the air. The night seemed to be plagued with turnovers(3 fumbles) and costly penalties at the most crucial of times, but as Head Coach Russ Sutherland said after the game " We had a few folks in unfamiliar positions and the lack of touches during the week caused some of those miscues". He continued "It was just a struggle tonight, we self destructed a whole bunch and we just found ways to make it difficult on ourselves tonight, but I have to give it to our kids, they found a way to pull it out and they played hard and made plays when they had to make plays to overcome all of the times they stubbed their foot during the game". The Bucs will take on the Woodville Eagles this Friday night at Buccaneer Stadium at 7:30 pm. and it will be Senior night as it is the last home game of the season. GO BUCS!!!!!!
