Texas Rice Festival Queen Ellie Miller rides atop a combine during the parade Saturday at the festival.
Wischnewsky Wears Pink at Cancer Society Event
By Wade Thibodeaux The Texas Rice Festival had a good run with great crowds for the weekend even though the rain was intermittent and the parking lot was muddy. Some schedules had to be changed to accommodate the younger participants on Friday morning when the skies opened up and water poured out, but everyone was safe and dry inside the community building where the contests had been relocated. Wednesday evening was a little slow getting started as far as the crowd went, but attendance grew steadily until the park was brimming full on Saturday night. For the most part, everyone behaved themselves and law enforcement reported very few incidences of poor behavior from the crowd. The one variation from that was Friday evening when
somebody evidently stole normalcy after two years of the carnival was back in a baseball from one of the being without a festival due town, contests were held, carnival attractions and to Hurricane Imelda(2019 and people seemed to just hurled it at a band member and Covid-19(2020). Many be in a good mood to be on stage. The baseball struck of the vendors sold out of celebrating the rice harvest. the singer on the side of his food, kids were happy that head and shattered a very expensive earpiece as well as inflicted some significant pain to the singer's ear. The band vacated the stage and did not return, basically ending everyone's night at the festival. The only other major incident was after the Saturday parade, a vintage airplane that was towed with a tractor during the parade, tried to use Highway 124 as a runway and something went wrong on takeoff and the plane ended upside down on the highway and in the ditch. Miraculously, nobody was seriously injured in the plane or on the ground. The incident is under investigation. All in all, a good festival TRF Queen Ellie Miller enjoys a little Cajun music with and a nice return to Thursday night headliner Wayne Toups on stage.

By Wade Thibodeaux Josh Wischnewsky wore pink last Thursday during an American Cancer Society fundraiser held at 5 Under Golf Center in Beaumont. Josh was an ambassador for the event and he and his team were the leading donors out of
a group of about 15 other ambassadors. The event was titled "Real MEN wear PINK" and was dedicated to raising awareness for breast cancer. The money raised will be funneled into research prevention for the deadly disease.
A Special Shoutout
A vintage plane crashed on takeoff after the parade. The pilot was using Highway 124 as a runway when it clipped a light pole and took out a set of traffic signals before landing upside down on the roadway.
