Tr a c t o r Te c h n i c i a n Contest Held at TRF

By Wade Thibodeaux   The first ever Texas Rice Festival tractor technician contest was held Friday, September 24, 2021 with 18 teams from Amarillo to Southeast Texas competing for the 1st place award. The object of the contest was to find problems that had been created on various tractors and identify and record those issues. The team that found the most issues and scored the best was ultimately the

winner. One such example was when a small safety pin was removed from a tractor and only one team noticed the infraction and recorded it on their score sheet. Many other issues were purposefully done to the tractors in an effort to trick the teams. The winning team was an all girl team from Bellville, Texas and second place was a team from Central Heights. The third place team was from Klein Forest High School.

Ellie Miller was crowned the TRF Queen to preside over the 52nd Texas Rice Festival last Saturday.

By Wade Thibodeaux  The Texas Rice Festival crowned it's 2021 Queen this past Saturday at the East Chambers Auditorium. A field of 21 young lady's entered the pageant and after the judges' decisions were rendered, Ellie Miller was crowned Queen of the 52nd Texas Rice Festival. A short bio was provided to The Hometown Press. Ellie is 19 years old and a graduate of East Chambers High School. She is currently enrolled at Lamar Institute of Technology pursuing a degree in Cardiac Sonography. Ellie is a part time employee at a boutique in Beaumont, and starting her eleventh season as a competitive dancer at iRule Dance Studio. Through dance she

has traveled and won titles all over the country, even receiving scholarships to prestigious dance programs and invitations to intensives such as the American Ballet Theatre and Radio City Rockettes. Even still, being the Texas Rice Festival Senior Queen has been a goal of hers since she put on her first Miss La Petite dress. Ellie is so thrilled and honored to represent the festival this year! The remaining members of the court are Grace Ritter, 1st runnerup, Montana Smith, 2nd runner-up, Ashlyn Gallier, 3rd runner-up, and Kamryn Smith, 4th runner-up and Miss Congeniality. Most Photogenic was awarded to Melody Kloss.

Bar-B-Que Contest Winners Announced at TRF

By Wade Thibodeaux   The annual Bar-B-Que Cook-off contest that is held on the first weekend of the Texas Rice Festival announced it's winners last Saturday, September 25, 2021. Caleb Warden with Kickin Kajun Smokehouse from Deer Park, Texas was the overall Grand Prize winner as he placed in the top three of all events which include chicken, ribs, and brisket. Trey Whitehead with UCI Bar-B-Que from Buna, Texas was the overall runner-up as he placed in the

top five of all events. The teams were spread out over the entire Winnie Park with the headquarters and turn-in station being the main stage of the Texas Rice Festival. The top ten places in each category received points in the officially sanctioned IBCA cook-off and the top eight places received a check for a pro rata share of the entry fees. Of course, everybody was shooting for the ultimate prize of the big trophy and the bragging rights until next year.

East Chambers Swats the Hornets 47-10

By Wade Thibodeaux   The Texas Rice Festival washers pitching contest was held on Saturday, September 25, 2021 and after a robust field of contestants was whittled down to just a few, the final placements are as follows: Ist place doubles is Jordan Brittain and Hagan Daigle from Hamshire with winnings of $276.00, 2nd place doubles is Bobby Mott and Brent Price from Fannett with winnings of $184.00,

and 3rd place doubles is Darin Smith and Tommy Broussard from Winnie with winnings of $40.00. A singles competition was held as well with the winners being 1st place Mason White from Winnie and he received $110.00, and 2nd place was Brent Price from Fannett with $20.00 in winnings. The washers tournament is always a fun event to observe and it really just comes down to how the washer bounces.

Jacoby Perrault(#10) had a hand in all 7 of the East Chamber's scores last Friday evening. Throwing 3 touchdowns and rushing for 4 more.

By Wade Thibodeaux   The East Chambers Buccaneers easily won their home District opener game against the Hardin Hornets 47-10 last Friday night. The Bucs outscored the Hornets in every quarter of the contest as

they led 13-8 at the end of the first period and 3310 before the break at halftime. East Chambers scored three times in the second quarter and only allowed the Hornets a rare two point score when the Hornets blocked an extra

point attempt of the Bucs and returned it for a score. EC added another 7 points in each of the remaining quarters while holding the Hornets scoreless for the remainder of the game. East Chambers led 40-10 at the end of the third frame and

47-10 at the conclusion of the game. The Bucs could have added another score during the last few seconds of the game, but instead chose to take a knee from the Hornet's 2 yard line to run out the (contd on page 7)
