Chambers County C o u r t S e t s Ta x R a t e
By Wade Thibodeaux   The Chambers County Commissioners Court met in regular session on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at 9:30 am. in the Courthouse in Anahuac, Texas. The meeting was broadcast via video production for those wishing to attend virtually. One of the first items of discussion was the setting of the tax rate for the 2020 year. After a little bit of discussion, the Court approved the no new revenue rate of $0.539490 per $100.00 of valuation. Another item that dealt with a tax situation was rescinded as a previous court agenda item had been approved to allow the Court to go up as much as 8% on the tax rate due to unusual circumstances such as the pandemic and impending hurricanes. The Court had passed the resolution at a previous court as a precaution, but over time had realized that it was unnecessary and several members of the Court wanted to go on record as rescinding the pos-
sibility of a tax increase. Another item that created a lot of discussion was the creation of Chambers County Drainage District No.1. This drainage district would be everything in Chambers County that is not already covered by Trinity Bay Conservation District and the Court approved an agenda item that found that the district was needed and would be a public benefit. This procedure was all part of the process to begin the planning and implementation of the new district. A lot of discussion was held pertaining to Fisher Road in West Chambers County with a preliminary agreement approved by the Court. The next regular meeting of the Chambers County Commissioners Court was held on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at 9:30 am., but was past The Hometown Press's deadline and will be reported in another week's paper.

East Chambers Planning New Projects By Wade Thibodeaux  The East Chambers ISD Board of Trustees met in regular session on Monday, September 14, 2020 at 6:00 pm. at 216 Champions Loop in Winnie, Texas. One of the agenda items was to approve giving the Superintendent authority to select the best method that provides the best value to the District for several projects that could be completed with grant funds from the Imelda Restart Grant. This grant totaled about $1 Million to the District and the administration was working to get the track resurfaced from damage caused by rising water during Imelda and also they wanted to replace the Primary School Gym floor. A District wide generator project would more than likely be scaled down to just a generator at each cafeteria and the admin building due to cost and availability of generators, but that would allow food to be served during short periods of no electricity from the power provider. If any additional money was left over, the wish list continued with a Primary
ect and a Primary School window replacement project. Trustees approved the agenda item giving the authority to the Superintendent. Darren Smith, Operations Director, detailed how the staff was disinfecting the campus and the busses by spraying everything down daily and spraying the busses twice daily after each run morning and evening. The rest of the meeting was mostly routine with enrollment numbers showing 1505 total students in the District, which is about a 2% decline in enrollment. Heather Bethea was approved as a new teacher for the Kindergarten program and a resolution was approved for the extracurricular status of the 4-H organization as well as naming Mrs. Fitzgerald as adjunct faculty. The next regular meeting of the East Chambers ISD Board of Trustees will be Monday, October 12, 2020 at 6:00 pm. at the Administration Building located at 216 Champions Loop in Winnie, Texas.
