Lions Club Invites Community to Hear Pandemic Story

The Winnie-Stowell Lions Club is hosting a community social featuring Scott Campbell, East Chambers School Superintendent, telling the story of the schools reaction to the pandemic from the very beginning to today and on to plans for the future. The social will be held on Thursday, May 27th at 6:00, at the Vine 2 Wine winery at 14773 Coon Rd in Winnie. the Bearkats took over on offense, but a fumble gave the Jackrabbits another chance. They wasted little time in capitalizing on the turnover and took a 7-0 lead over the Bearkats. The rest of the

first quarter was a defensive battle as the quarter ended 7-0 in favor of the Jackrabbits. Sam Houston’s offense came alive in the second quarter and scored on a three play 56 yard drive to tie

the score at 7 apiece. A missed Jackrabbit field goal provided another opportunity for the Kats to score and they held a 14-7 advantage at the end of the lightning delayed half. Sam Hous-

Sam Houston won the toss, but elected to defer to the second half. South Dakota was stopped on their first possession, and ton added a field goal in the third quarter, but SDSU was able to find the endzone once again at the start of the fourth to cut the Bearkats lead to 17-14. After trading possessions a few times, the Jackrabbits were able to break off a long run for a touchdown to take the lead 21-17. With 5:41 left in the game, the Bearkats marched down the field and scored a touchdown with 0:16 left on the game clock. A missed extra point made the score 23-21 in favor of the Bearkats. The Jackrabbits had two trick hook and ladder plays left in them, but neither one was able to get them into field goal position and the Kats won the game 23-21 and the celebration began.

By Wade Thibodeaux   The annual Marsh Fest held a team roping this past weekend, May 1416, 2021 with around 800 teams participating before a champion was awarded. The annual event was tweaked just a little this year due to Covid-19 gathering

restrictions that were still in place when the event is normally held at the first part of March. Marsh Fest plans on being back at full capacity next year with vendors, calling contests, entertainment, and more.
