East Chambers ISD Gets Clean Audit   The East Chambers ISD Board of Trustees held their regular meeting last Monday, January 11, 2021 at 6:00 pm. in the Administration Building located at 216 Champions Loop in Winnie, Texas. One of the first items of business was to receive a video presentation of the 2019-2020 outside audit for the District. Mr James Edwards with J R Edwards and Associates presented the audit via zoom as board members followed along with handouts located in their packets. The District received a clean audit opinion and everything was in order with a healthy balance sheet reported by the auditors. The District also held a public hearing concerning the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas. No public comments were received and the District reported a perfect score of 100 on the Statewide Rating System. The trustees were also greeted with several gifts of mostly handmade items that came from the students at East
Chambers for School Board Recognition Month. The Junior High School presented a short two minute video clip featuring some of the students' comments about their appreciation for the school board members. The board also presented Steven White and Gary Hoffpauir with tokens of appreciation for their service on the board. Steven had previously retired from the board, but was pressed back into service to fill an unexpired term of a board member that suddenly passed away. Gary decided to not seek re-election last November after having served a combined 29 years on the board. The rest of the meeting was the usual items of paying the bills and reports from the administrators. The next regular meeting of the East Chambers ISD Board of Trustees will be Monday, February 8, 2021 at 6:00 pm. at the Administration Building located at 216 Champions Loop in Winnie, Texas.

Chambers County Sheriff's Office Makes Drug Bust
 Sheriff Brian Hawthorne reports that on December 9, 2020, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Chambers County Sheriff’s Deputies assigned to the Covert Investigations Unit conducted a traffic stop in the 500 block of Highway 124 in Winnie. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Nathaniel Thomas, Jr., continued to drive through parking lots and attempted to evade the Deputies. While the driver was attempting to evade the deputies, the passenger, identified as April McDaniel, threw an unknown
item out of the window. The vehicle came to a stop and both subjects were detained. Deputies located the item that the passenger threw out of the window, which turned out to be a baggy of methamphetamine, weighing approximately 21.6 grams. A search of the vehicle revealed that April McDaniel was in possession of seven different items of identifying information belonging to a citizen in Oak Island, Texas. A further search of the vehicle led to the seizure of marijuana as well as drug
paraphernalia. Nathaniel Thomas, Jr., 51, of Stowell, Texas, was placed under arrest for Evading Arrest/Detention (State Jail Felony) and Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 - 4G<200G (2nd degree Felony). April McDaniel, 35, of Oak Island, Texas, was placed under arrest for Tampering with Evidence (3rd degree Felony), Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 - 4G<200G (2nd degree Felony), and Fraudulent Use or Possession
of Identifying Information - 5<10 items â&#x20AC;&#x201C; (3rd degree Felony). â&#x20AC;&#x153;Deputies assigned to our Covert Investigation Unit, as well our Crime Prevention Unit, are dedicated to continually combating the drug problems within our County. The Chambers County Sheriffâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Office is continuing to increase our proactive enforcement throughout the county to keep our citizens safe,â&#x20AC;? said Sheriff Hawthorne.

meeting that had been postponed from December 16, 2020 because of several administration personnel and board members out with illnesses. The meeting started off with controversy over agenda item number 4 which was about nepotism issues amongst the board
members and staff. Nepotism is a complicated situation in which persons employed by the taxing entity are related to board members. Board member Jeffery Jenkins is married to Sherri Jenkins who is the accounting manager at TBCD and likewise board member Tommy Gilbert has
a son who is employed by TBCD. After several heated exchanges between the board and the attorney representing the District, the meeting was halted and the board retired to executive session. After an almost hour long executive session, the (contd on page 3)
