Grimsby's Outdoor Rink, known as the "Frieze Box" is a free skating and leisure opportunity for residents that offers ice skating from December - March, weather permitting. The Outdoor Rink will open for reservation only activities.

2021 Rink Reservations Grimsby residents are able to book a FREE private skate for members of their immediate household only. Reservations have begun to be accepted first come first serve.

Maximum occupancy is 6 Only members of your immediate household are permitted Bookings are in 45 minute time slots Hockey sticks and pucks are permitted Town Staff will be on site to facilitate the start of each rental Please limit your bookings to one per week to ensure fair and equal access

Terms and Conditions • The Outdoor Rink is "flooded" periodically on a staff determined schedule. Your rental is not guaranteed resurfacing, and may need to be shovelled for optimal use.

• The Outdoor Rink may be required to close and reservations may be cancelled at any time due to changing public health guidance, ice conditions, or other factors determined by the Town of Grimsby.

• If at any time Town of Grimsby staff determine that the conditions of use are not being met, including having more then 6 persons on the ice, or individuals from multiple households, the rental will be immediately terminated.

BEACH LAND USE Planning Study What is the Grimsby Beach Study?

The Grimsby Beach Land Use Study will examine the existing conditions; particularly the unique cultural and natural heritage characteristics of Grimsby Beach, to develop an understanding of how the area may change or be impacted by growth and development. The goal is to establish a community driven vision and principles that can provide guidance and a comprehensive and implementable framework/plan that will not only guide appropriate change, but inspire it and preserve what aspects of Grimsby Beach are most valued.

While the Study will be grounded in evidence-based research and technical information, a significant component will be spent reaching out to the community and stakeholders through meaningful engagement. The community and stakeholders will play a critical role in helping to identify issues and opportunities within the neighbourhood and work together with the Town and consulting team to build consensus on the vision. Throughout the five phases of the study, there will be public engagement activities that seek to inform, consult and engage.

Purpose of the Study: • Understand how the area may change or be impacted by growth and development • Identify issues and opportunities in the neighbourhood to create a vision for future growth and development • Build a framework/plan to guide appropriate change while preserving Grimsby Beach’s unique cultural and natural heritage characteristics

Study Area The Grimsby Beach study area is outlined in yellow on the map. The majority of the study area is located to the North of Lake Street, between Baker Road North and Park Road North. The remaining study area is located to the South of Lake Street between Grand Avenue and Birchpark Drive.

How can I get involved?

We invite you to complete this initial survey and share input about what you value about the Grimsby Beach area. There are many views relating to this area, its opportunities and its challenges. Community input is important as we consider a policy and regulatory framework to guide change and protect what is important to the community.

Go to grimsby.ca to find and complete the survey. The survey should take approximately 5 to 10 minutes to complete.

The results of this survey will also be anonymous and summarized in the background reports and presentations related to the study.

• Paramedics across the province should be added to the list of priority healthcare staff to receive the vaccination.

• Niagara’s municipalities will reaffirm their commitment to share information in a timely and accurate way to ensure all parties can make effective decisions.

• Niagara’s municipal leaders request the community’s patience and understanding as vaccines begin to arrive across the region. The federal and provincial governments have committed to ensuring there will be a vaccine for everyone who wants one, but this process will take time.

NIAGARA’S MUNICIPAL LEADERS REVEAL COMMON PRINCIPLES TO COMBAT

THE SECOND WAVE OF COVID-19 Earlier this month, Niagara’s 12 Mayors and the Regional Chair met virtually to discuss the pressing challenges facing the community due to the second wave of COVID-19.

With the significant increase of COVID-19 cases, an alarming rise in the number of pandemic-related deaths, and the continued impact of outbreaks in more than 50% of Niagara’s long-term care homes, the consensus of the heads of council was that Niagara is at a critical point and a concerted effort will be required by all partners to help gain control of an exceptionally serious situation.

Niagara’s Mayors and Regional Chair agreed on the following principles. A formal letter was also sent to the Premier 12

of Ontario, Minister of Health and Solicitor General outlining Niagara’s concerns.

• Niagara’s municipal partners are exploring opportunities to share staff resources in all appropriate areas to further bolster Niagara’s pandemic response, including possible redeployment to long-term care homes and to support public health initiatives.

• Niagara’s municipal leaders call on the province to ensure our frontline health care workers and residents have equal and timely access to vaccines as compared to other areas of Ontario.

• Niagara urges the province to consider increasing the role municipalities and local Public Health units have in the vaccine distribution strategy. Niagara also calls upon the province to more openly share its plans regarding vaccine distribution to ensure local residents have the information they require.

Residents are reminded that the most effective way to slow the spread of the virus is by practising physical distancing, staying home whenever possible, washing their hands frequently and wearing a mask when required.

On behalf of the people of Niagara, the Mayors and Regional Chair thank our local frontline health care who continue to perform admirably after more than 10 months confronting this deadly virus. Niagara’s leaders also recognize the significant challenges faced by local businesses due to the lockdowns and are committed to providing any assistance possible. The heads of council also empathize with the impacts on students, teachers and families who are managing new and challenging learning environments.

These are unprecedented times, and Niagara’s municipal leaders recognize that most residents are making the sacrifices necessary to combat COVID-19.

As the Province of Ontario experiences its highest single day increase in COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, all Niagara residents are reminded of the importance of following all public health directives to keep everyone safe.

A fun take on cheesecake, it combines toffee, sweet and salty kettlecorn popcorn and chocolate for an easyto-eat dessert. You still get the rich and creamy texture like you would from a cheesecake but with an added crunch from the popcorn.

CHEESECAKE ON A STICK Prep Time: 20 minutes ı Serves: 8

INGREDIENTS • 8 slices large prepared frozen cheesecake • 1 bag (220 g) Orville Redenbacher sweet and salty ready-to-eat kettlecorn, chopped • 1 cup (250 mL) sponge toffee pieces • 1 lb (450 g) dark chocolate, melted

DIRECTIONS STEP 1. Skewer widest end of each cheesecake slice with an ice pop or wooden craft stick; freeze until firm.

STEP 2. In shallow dish, stir together kettle corn and sponge toffee. Place melted chocolate in bowl; dip each cheesecake slice into melted chocolate, shaking any excess chocolate back into bowl. Coat in popcorn mixture.

BUD is a very sweet and friendly dog who loves everyone. He enjoys meeting new people when out on walks but he does need to work on his leash manners.

He does love playing ball outside - he is very spry for an older guy! Bud could benefit from better manners as he tends to jump up when excited and growls if disturbed while eating. In time he will learn that his days of not being fed are behind him. Bud doesn’t like to be left alone and is much happier when he’s with his best friend Lee.

Support Program ADDRESSING THE NEED FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING SUPPORTS IN NIAGARA - ONE CLIENT AT A TIME. An affordable home is a foundation of opportunity, but it is out of reach for far too many. Affordable housing should be a basic right for everybody in our community. The reason is simple, without stable shelter, everything else falls apart.

I am excited for the opportunity to lead the GBF Housing campaign, and I look forward to working with our community partners to ensure that low-income households have access to affordable housing in Grimsby. Where everyone has equitable opportunities to thrive.

For each of us, our home is a foundation for our wellbeing. It is a place where we spend many hours, where our loved ones are, an anchor in our local community, the place where we recharge. Housing that is

too costly leads people to spend less on food and nutrition and recreation, worries about rent or eviction can lead to high stress within the household.

The GBF Community Services Rent Supplement program and Emergency Housing program offers eligible applicants support for their housing needs. A rent supplement is a subsidy provided to clients to bridge the gap between the market rent for the unit and the amount the tenant can pay based on their income. Emergency Housing support is a one- time payment towards the client’s rental costs per calendar year.

GBF Community Services has been providing rent supplements for qualified households to help retain their home in Grimsby. 100+ households have benefitted from this type of support. This is an average monthly total investment of $20,000+. A total of $1,059,113 has been invested in Housing support through the Rent Supplement program and Emergency services since 2016. The GBF is committed to investing additional funds in Housing support for the 2021 calendar year.

For GBF Community Services, affordable, stable housing is a key component in creating a town where all residents are part of a thriving, livable community for themselves and future needs.

Positive outcomes can be achieved for households regarding their mental health through relieving the excessive rent burdens that are largely responsible for stress. Rent supplements can also mitigate the realization of fears tied to not being able to meet housing costs by bringing needed security preventing negatively induced moves out of our community.

In our last fiscal year, we worked hard to meet the needs of our community.
