IF YOU HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO PREPARE, BE READY TO THINK ABOUT: • Should the camera be held horizontally (landscape) or vertically (portrait)?
OUT-OF-FOCUS PHOTOS ARE OFTEN AVOIDABLE WITH BE STEADY TECHNIQUES: • Hold the camera with both hands. • Hold the camera as close to your body as possible, typically with your elbows against your chest. • Press down smoothly and do not jab at the shutter release button. • Consider using a tree, a pole or a wall to further steady yourself and the camera. • Action photos will often be out-of-focus unless you adjust your camera for a faster shutter speed. Your camera may have a "sports" setting that can be used to greatly increase your chance of capturing sharp action photos. If the camera allows for this adjustment, a speed of 1/500 second should be used as a minimum. • Action adjustments aren’t just for professional athletes. Even children playing, running or dancing will likely be in better focus. • A faster shutter speed will also help those with shaky hands.

RESTORE OPENS IN GRIMSBY On Thursday, July 27th, there was an opening reception for the new ReStore at 189 South Service Road in Grimsby. Close to one hundred people were on hand to celebrate all the efforts of so many contributors to see the third ReStore open in the Niagara Region. ReStore is a fundraising initiative that accepts new and gently used household and renovation materials as a donation, then resells to the public at a reduced cost. Funds that are generated are used to build Habitat homes for local families in need. The GRAND OPENING will be held on August 12th from 10:00am until 5:00pm, with lots of fun activities for the whole family. 01

COMES TOGETHER DURING FIRE
On July 6th, just after the lunch hour, a fire started in a business on the Main Street in Grimsby. I was at our local fruit stand at the time. A girl, terribly upset, came and shared that a business she had worked for was on fire. At the time, I had absolutely no idea what the amount of destruction this fire would cause.

ater that afternoon, I was attempting to head up Main Street when massive amounts of smoke filled the air. It reminded me of a smaller version of 911 with all the smoke in the air and the emergency response personnel wearing their respirataors. My heart sank and first thoughts included how many lives would this raging fire take. I was extremely grateful to later learn that no lives were lost and that two dogs and a cat were actually rescued by a brave soul. The fire continued for hours that day and our brave fire fighters, our heroes, doused the flames preventing the post office roof from being engulfed in flames. Our heroes saved the post office and many more stores. Miracles happened that day! Lives were changed. Many prayers were answered. The next day we paid Vita, our friend and co-owner of Found, a visit and gave her a big hug. We celebrated together that they did not experience any form of destruction. We shared sadness for others who had such great loss. People came together in other ways by sharing hugs and doing whatever they could to support those in shock, while others were lending a hand to clean up some of the destruction. Bottles of water and food were delivered to exhausted fire fighters that had put in many long hours. It touches my soul to know that I live in such a caring community where people come together. DELICIOUS DISH RECIPE

STREET CORN
ELOTES
n my opinion, this is the best way to serve corn... period! I buy the crema and Cotija cheese at my local Mexican grocery store, Perola Supermarket in Kensington Market, but in a pinch you can substitute these ingredients. Serves: 5-10
INGREDIENTS • 5 corn on the cob, husked and cleaned. Cut into 2-3 pieces, or leave whole
DIRECTIONS STEP 0 1 If you are leaving the corn whole, I like to skewer the end of each piece
• 1 lime, cut in half

He will require obedience training to gain some manners in your home. Thor must go to a home with a fenced yard and no cats as he seems to have a very high prey drive. He is also very reactive when it comes to other dogs (males in particular) so he will need to be the only dog in the household. His adopter should be affectionate and active. All adoptable dogs have been given a behavioural test and our staff will be happy to explain the testing and discuss the results with potential adopters.

05 There was something for everyone the weekend of July 14th to 16th. Friday night was the party at Southward Park with fireworks. Saturday, Main Street was closed to traffic from Ontario to Patton Street for the many events and vendors. Coronation Park held the Lord of the Wings contest, Cadets Obstacle Course, entertainment and children’s activities. It was a perfect outing for all.

Local businesses showcased their products. Kids got their face painted and took a tour of the Fire Truck, the BBQ was fired up for delicious bacon-on-a-bun. WINE FESTIVAL For the third year in a row, Vineland Estates Winery and Featherstone Estate Winery opened their doors to dog lovers and their well-behaved dogs on a leash. July 8th and 9th was a perfect weekend to celebrate excellent wine and food and all things canine. Chef Kevin made treats for both 2-legged and their 4-legged friends. A stroll between the two vineyards gave everyone a chance to see the beauty of the region. A portion of wine sales supported National Service Dogs. Next year’s festival is already in the works! 01
