PAWS UP! TFSA or RRSP? Which Should You Consider First? TFSAs and RRSPs both provide tax-sheltered growth for your retirement savings. Consider your current and future income levels when deciding which account to use first. TFSA*

Consider contributing to an RRSP first. Although you’ll still have to pay tax on withdrawal, your up-front tax deductions provide you with greater tax-savings.

Scenario C: Your income level and income tax rate is expected to stay level from the time you make contributions to the time

In this simplified example, neither account provides a unique tax advantage over the other. Other planning considerations should be considered with your advisior prior to your contribution.

KK (Karyn Klaire Koski) a MPP awarded, City Councillor acknowledged & WWF Canada recognized leader is championing community goodwill throughout Toronto Wards 13 & 14, by promoting a Loving Living Locally campaign that will boost local spirit and foster good relations with local services and businesses. Photographed events will be featured in community specific, glossy magazines that will be mailed to residences and be available on racks at various public places and online at communitycaptured.ca. Community Captured Roncy launched in January 2016, will be expanded to include the neighbourhoods of Parkdale, High Park and Bloor West Village. Expect two separate publications that will concentrate more fully on their respective demographics. Local celebrations, achievements, neighbourhood goodwill, charities, commemorations, school activities, awards and Festivals from within our communities will be photographed and shared. We call them Happy Snaps. We’ll also pick prominent people who live in the area and we’ll share their stories. A community is only as strong as its people. Shopping and living locally supports a zero carbon foot print, strengthens community ties and helps small businesses thrive. Getting to know your neighbours opens up communication. Community Captured intends to co Partner with others to host annual Charitable events, so we can all give back.

Shopping on Roncesvalles was extra delightful on December 3rd as there were carollers from 4 Community Choral groups singing along the streets to capture the holiday season. There were lights in the windows, hot chocolate at the cafĂŠs, and good cheer in the bistros. Plus, an official Christmas Tree Lighting in front of the Roncesvalles United Church (RUC), while a choir sings.

by Karyn Klaire Koski ommuting mostly by bike, Roncesvalles Village BIA Manager Veronica Feihl can be seen, often, rushing the blocks of Roncy’s public sidewalks. Her job is to maintain and improve conditions on Roncesvalles Avenue that allow businesses to thrive. This includes managing the dynamics of streetscape, special events, street festivals, finding and coordinating volunteers, promoting Roncy and making everyday mayhem look effortless.

Originally from Ottawa, Veronica studied journalism, film and public relations. Early starts in retail PR and communications for the Ontario Arts Council, have paved way for her own enterprise as an independent internet communications strategist. Living in the Roncesvalles area for thirty years now, she is grateful that the freedom of being a freelance entrepreneur has allowed her time to also concentrate on her family and community. Because of her interest in urban planning, sustainable development and livable cities, much of what Roncesvalles Renewed & RoncyWorks has accomplished, is because of her expertise. That is to say, that she was involved, with others, with the new design of how Roncesvalles Avenue looks now and how it is still maintained today — because she is the driving force behind the army of volunteers who maintain plant beds and clean up cigarette litter. She’s known for pushing up her sleeves and pitching in herself.

SHE’S KNOWN FOR PUSHING UP HER SLEEVES AND PITCHING IN HERSELF. 12

Then there’s the management of public events. Without doubt the annual Roncesvalles Polish Festival is Roncy’s largest draw, and Roncy Rocks which celebrates local art, music and community spirit. Other smaller events like the Shop local campaigns and Earth Hour Walks really help to bring community and business members together. Veronica dips a decidedly presiding finger, in every one of those pies.

“I OFTEN SHOP VINTAGE FOR CLOTHING, I’M NOT RULED BY TRENDS - I LOVE COLOUR." Behind all of the micro managed activity is a softly spoken woman who tries to live a holistic lifestyle. She's a mom to two, a wife and a kind friend to many. When asked of what she likes about her (obvious) fashion sense, she responds by saying “I often shop vintage for clothing, I’m not ruled by trends — I love colour”. Then she goes on to talk about trees and the environment. In July, Veronica will celebrate her second year as the Manager of the Roncesvalles BIA. She attributes her success to her ability to form good relationships and by enabling people to realize their intents. She believes that bringing the best out in people makes good things happen. She sees herself as a juggler — aiming to maintain a happy balance in her life of work obligations, community engagement, personal well being and precious family time.

NIA TECHNIQUE

BRINGS COMMUNITY PEOPLE

TOGETHER 01

Every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday morning, people of all ages and at every fitness level, gather at the Pia Bouman School of Ballet to move their bodies and energize their spirits...the Nia way! Brown Belt instructor, Sarah Jean Butler has been sharing Nia in the community for over eight years. Classic Nia is a cardio-dance workout based on the intelligent design of the body. Each class incorporates dance arts, martial arts and healing modalities, which combined create a joyful, playful and energetic hour of music, movement and magic. Nia is non-impact and adaptable to individual needs. Nia Moving to Heal, every Sunday morning is a more gentle and nurturing hour crafted to calm the nervous system and create a sense of well being in the body, mind, heart and spirit. Moving to Heal is suitable for beginners, individuals dealing with injury, illness, challenges, trauma or stress. Nia is for anyone who wishes to benefit from an hour of self care and loving kindness. For more information on Nia, please check out www.nianow.com. APPRECIATION DINNER by Karyn Klaire Koski

Of course, the food was amazing. Drawing from an array of culinary excellence, no fewer than a dozen Roncy Village eateries charitably provided delectables for an open bar gathering of RoncyWorkers, RVBIA Board Members, supporters and local patrons. The entire multi-coursed feast including hot chocolate and dessert bar that followed was overseen by Barque’s Event Planning specialist; David Neinstein.

Thank you David Neinstein and Roncesvalles Village BIA Member contributors. 03: Luke gets awarded. 04: Maria & Anne. 05: High Park Library’s Head Librarian, Brian Bertrand and Reverend Anne Hines share the fun as Masters of Ceremony. Held at Roncesvalles United Church and coHosted by Rev. Anne Hines and Brian Bertrand, who is the head librarian at the High Park Library, the four-hour event attended by 43 locals which included 29 volunteers and members of the Roncesvalles Village BIA Board — was punctuated with awards, gift giving and group celebration with those who help make RoncyWorks a community engagement success. RoncyWorks is the volunteer arm of the BIA, with an army of community people who come together to oversee the streetscape of Roncesvalles Ave by strategizing the tree canopy, maintaining the plant beds, and sweeping cigarette butt litter. Additionally, RoncyWorks members spearhead community projects such as the launching of the Dundas West / Roncesvalles Peace Garden, Shine Your Light Campaign and the annual Earth Hour Walk. Roncy works because the Roncesvalles community works together. If you’d like to join our team please contact: manager@roncesvallesvillage.ca
