The Pearls n’ Plaid 19th Annual Comfort & Joy Gala was held on Thursday, November 2nd at The Gambrel Barn at Country Heritage Park. The black-tie event celebrated all things Canadian, and included entertainment from the Milton Show Choir who sang the National Anthem, as well as performances by The Doubts. All proceeds raised, directly supported the programs and services at The Darling Home for Kids, Canada’s only pediatric hospice, respite and residential facility, located in Milton. It was a night to remember!

I assisted with building a 24’ sailboat in our family home when I was a teenager. - I love cars, especially antique sports cars. - Everyone tells me that I have a great smile. I love to give hugs. - I love all animals especially owls and birds, but not snakes. - I am adventurous. I love trying new things and going new places. - I have always been attracted to rocks and crystals all my life.

WHAT IS SOMETHING THAT VERY FEW PEOPLE WOULD KNOW ABOUT YOU? I do not like snakes at all and I am very intuitive, which I use in business and personal life.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE CHARITY? My favourite Charity is the Compassion Society of Halton. They provide emergency food and clothing to numerous families within Halton.

On Saturday, November 11th, Burlington honoured those who have served our country in wars and Peacekeeping operations, under the auspice of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 60. The RCL Colour Guard and Burlington Teen Tour Band proudly led a short parade, stopping at the cenotaph at city hall to provide reveille for the ceremony. Parade salute was taken by veterans Jim Warford, Jim Farrauto, Fred Davies and Tyron Lincoln. Over 1,000 people attended the ceremony to pay their respects.

On Saturday, November 4th, Saint Elizabeth’s Bazaar and Silent Auction was a great way to begin holiday shopping and pick up something handcrafted for that special someone. Crafts and baked goods were offered for sale, while the lunch room was a popular favourite to sit down for soup, sandwiches and dessert. Continuing to Waterdown, The Holly Berry Bazaar in St. Thomas the Apostle church was unique, as guests had the opportunity to pose with Santa, while the very talented Father Lobsinger treated shoppers to background organ music.

On December 3rd, thousands flocked downtown to enjoy Burlington’s 52nd Annual Christmas Parade featuring bands, festive floats and jolly old Saint Nick. Popular characters such as Darth Vader, Batman and many others, mingled with the crowds. During the parade, children squealed with delight to receive toques, pencils, candy canes and mini soccer balls tossed into the crowd by parade participants. 02 On the evening of December 1st, a Candlelit Stroll launched the 22nd Festival of Lights. The town crier led the crowd from City Hall, with hand-held candles illuminating the short jaunt to Spencer Smith Park to view the extravagant light show. This annual event was sponsored by Burlington’s Downtown Business Association and included the lighting of the Tree of Hope at City Hall, great music and more than sixty festive LED displays in the park. The lights remain on until January 8th, for the holiday season.

There was a great turnout for Ireland House Museum’s Annual Christmas Event, on November 19th. The day offered tours of the museum in its Victorian Christmas decor, coffee, hot chocolate and treats made in the 1830s Rumford hearth. Outside was Santa’s Reindeer, Prancer, who posed for pictures along with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Children roasted marshmallows on an open fire and enjoyed a horse drawn wagon ride.

Even Santa and Mrs. Claus showed up to view The Giant Christmas Tree Lighting on November 18th at Downsview Plaza hosted by the Aldershot Village BIA. Families enjoyed live entertainment by the En Chorus Choir, followed by the James Ferris Band. Attendees could shop, sample BBQ’d sausage, chat with Santa and ride on a horse drawn sleigh. All were surprised to see the brilliant tree light up at 4:30 pm, with the red and white lights to commemorate Canada’s 150th birthday.

On Saturday, November 4th, Drew and Jayne Woolcott gathered at the Waterdown Sobeys plaza, with family and several agents of the Woolcott Team, to collect winter coats for charity. As always, Drew delivered the coats to the Good Shepherd Homeless shelter for distribution to those in need. Free warm beverages were provided to all those keeping someone warm this winter by donating gently used winter wear.

04 ASK FOR HELP WHEN NEEDED Making resolutions with a friend is a lot more exciting than doing it alone. Ask a friend with similar goals to help you stay motivated through your journey. You will not only have each other to lean on when the resolution gets tough, but the small, harmless competition will motivate you to work harder.
05 MAKE IT EXCITING Working towards some type of special reward will motivate you to stay on track. Whether it be a trip somewhere or buying a special ‘you’ present, plan financially for it and achieve your goals on time or sooner.
