TINNITUS? innitus is described as the perception of noise in the ears when there is no external sound source present. While tinnitus is typically thought of as a ringing in the ear, it can also present as a: buzzing, hissing, roaring, or clicking, and can be perceived in one or both ears or in the head. Tinnitus is typically not serious and is a symptom rather than a disease or illness on itself. It is common to experience tinnitus temporarily following noise exposure (e.g. going to a concert) or briefly for a few moments from time to time. About 10-15% of the population experiences permanent tinnitus, and of those, about 5% find tinnitus severe enough to impact their daily activities. Tinnitus is more common in people who have hearing loss, usually caused by age, loud noise exposure or other ear-related problems, but it can also be found in people with normal hearing. Other potential causes include: earwax buildup, eardrum perforation, ear infection(s), head injury, certain medications and medical conditions. It is believed that stress can worsen tinnitus. People with tinnitus are often told that there is nothing that can be done to help. Many websites will advertise a cure for tinnitus with a pill or medication; however, there is no known cure for tinnitus. Luckily, there are sound therapy programs that have been proven to help provide relief and management of tinnitus. Audiological counseling in addition to sound therapy programs help individuals adapt to their tinnitus. For individuals with tinnitus and hearing loss, hearing aids can be useful to reduce tinnitus and improve hearing.
At Port Credit Audiology & Hearing Aid Clinic, we work closely with our patients to provide the highest level of individualized care to help them find relief from their tinnitus. We implement Progressive Tinnitus Management (PTM), which is a structured, multi-level approach counseling method. The goal of the program is to help patients manage their reactions to tinnitus and the program offers different levels of support dictated by the individual’s needs. If you or a loved one suffers from tinnitus, call to schedule an appointment with our Audiologist or visit pcaudiology.ca for a complete tinnitus assessment.

he Heart House Memorial Picnic was held on September 22nd, at the Port Credit Memorial Park. This special picnic was an opportunity for people to celebrate the preciousness of life, connect with others and have fun. It was an opportunity to remember loved ones who have died. Many families that came were part of the Help Us Understand Grief (H.U.U.G.) program that helps children, youth and families have honest information and well informed support when someone they care about is dying or has died. This program is offered in the regions of Peel and Halton. Heart House Hospice truly appreciates the support of the Kiwanis Club of Mississauga South, who made this event possible with their financial support and helping at the event. For example: Millennials have different requirements than Baby Boomers, and Seniors are considering how their lives may change in the years to come and how that will affect their lifestyles.
SOME CONSIDERATIONS MIGHT BE: • Redefining what is important to you. • Right-sizing may be the path to creating a lifestyle that uniquely fits what your hearts desire. • Sometimes even more important than square footage of a house is the layout and location.

• Baby Boomers are seeing children leaving the family home and are wondering if it makes sense to continue living in a large property. • Perhaps you are looking at redeeming some equity from your family home to enable you to embark on a new venture. • Many Baby Boomers want to travel more and not have to worry about the upkeep of an empty large family home. • You may be recently retired and looking at planning the next steps in your life what does that look like to you? • Perhaps you are worried about aging parents. How long can they continue to live in their current homes safely and happily? There are many, many different options to consider and I will assist you every step of the way with my extensive knowledge. erhaps the most common photos taken worldwide are of a group of people. Assuming that you have some control over how the group will pose, here are some simple things to consider. Photo 1 illustrates some pitfalls: a lack of symmetry, a distracted subject on the right (very common when multiple photographers are involved), closed eyes for one subject (a good reason for taking multiple shots), and “totem-poling” (two subjects directly in front of each other). Photo 2 illustrates the improvements. Also, consider whether faces (3) or full-length (4) is more important. When in doubt, take both!
