Foraging for Edibles Diego Bonetto

Saturday 15 July | 10am – 12pm

Join wild food expert Diego Bonetto on a stroll in the park and learn about the most common edible and medicinal plants that surround us all. This workshop will give insights into the abundance of edibles thriving in the colder months of the year. We will discuss the role weeds play in repairing and building soil and you will find out how they have been used for food, craft, and natural remedies.

This workshop is designed to provide participants with solid skills on plant identification, re-learning old stories while paying respect to public and ancient resources. Each participant will receive a booklet detailing 16 of the most common wild edibles of Sydney.

Cheese Making Workshop

Thursday 10 August | 6pm – 8pm

Learn how to process milk to make delicious simple cheeses! This evening workshop will cover information on the milk fermenting process and what is needed to create hard and soft cheeses, yogurt, milk kefir, koumyss and other products. It will be followed by a live demonstration of making cottage cheese and fried soft cheese, which you will taste straight away! Recipes will be emailed to you after the workshop so you could try cheesemaking at home. Discover, learn, and then try cooking yourself at home in this interactive hands-on cooking demonstration on the art of making cheeses. This workshop is supported by The Hills Shire Council Resource Recovery Team.

Storytelling about Platypus in The Hills CHEN

Did you know platypus have been recently discovered in The Hills Shire? Come and celebrate platypus month and learn more about how a local environment community group (Cattai Hills Environment Network CHEN) discovered platypus, what we are doing now to help preserve this population, and how you can get involved! Learn about the story of ‘Bluey’ the platypus and share stories and information about the platypus, an iconic unique species! During this special workshop, you will learn about platypus biology, threats and habitat and delve into what you can do to help the platypus in your own backyard and community. This workshop includes a catered lunch.
