CONDITIONS OF SALE First

The highest bidder for a lot shall be the Purchaser thereof, subject to the right of the Auctioneer by whom the sale is conducted to refuse to accept any bidding if he thinks proper to do so and also subject as to every lot, to any reserved price that the Vendor may have put on the lot. If in the opinion of the Auctioneer any dispute shall arise as to the last or best bidding for any lot, the lot in dispute shall be put up again at the last undisputed bidding.

Second

A person shall not retract a bidding and only bidding of one or more guineas will be accepted.

Third

Every lot will be sold and must be taken by the purchaser with all faults and errors of description (if any) and from the fall of the hammer the lot shall be and remain at the Purchaser’s risk; but no lot shall be removed from the Sale Premises until it has been paid for in cash nor without a pass from the Secretary of the Society or his Clerk.

Fourth

No set off nor any deduction against or from the purchase money of any lot will under any circumstances be recognised or allowed by the Auctioneers.

Fifth

Excepting in any case that may come within the terms of, and as is mentioned in, the proviso in this condition hereinafter contained, no warranty whatever will be given with, nor shall any warranty be implied with or in respect of any lot, nor shall any damages or compensation be payable to any Purchaser in respect of any fault in any lot or any error of description (if any) of any lot. Provided nevertheless that this condition shall not extend (a) to any lots as to which a representation is expressly made by the owner and printed under the description of the lot in this Catalogue that such lot is fertile or competent as a stock-getter, or to that effect, if such representation be inaccurate, nor (b) to any bull of 12 months old and over at the date of sale (see Rule 9 of the Society’s Rules and Regulations).

Six

If any purchaser shall fail to comply with condition No. 2 hereof, the Auctioneers shall be at liberty to re-sell the lot or lots bought by him or her by either public auction or private contract and the deficiency in price (if any) occasioned by such re-sale, together with all charges and expenses attending the same, and also all charges and expenses attending the keeping and maintenance of the lot or lots until re-sale, shall be made good and paid by the defaulter at the present sale: but, if there be any surplus upon any such re-sale, the defaulter shall not be entitled thereto.

Seventh The Society’s Rules and Regulations, which will be on display at the Sale, shall be deemed to be incorporated in and shall form part of these Conditions of Sale.

FOREWORD 31 years breeding at Mara Herefords has to be dramatically downsized as Margaret and I can no longer do the work, and so the need for this major reduction.

All the sires from the past who helped build the genetics in the females are on the Mara website.

The five female lines have never changed and progeny have gone on to do well for others, being good mothers and good milkers (see website).

Currently F.H. Diamond and his sons continue to take the Mara and others forward at pace.

Mara Humorous at Free Town has had an incredible year, judged the Best Stock Bull in the regional herds competition, a daughter the Best Heifer Calf and then a son F.T. Martyr taking Reserve Male Champion and a daughter F.T. Bryony Female Champion and Reserve Supreme Champion. Congratulations to the Bradstock family. Two daughters in the sale.

Mara Flook is doing an incredible job for the Richmond family in N. Ireland. Two daughters will stay here and a son Mara Kilamanjaro is stock bull at Sparkwood Herefords.

Elms School bred well with Mara Freeman, Mrs Lesley Jackson with Mara Chancellor & Mara Excel and Paul Snell & Sarah Cowle with Mara Epic.

Mara Garnet daughters are numerous in the sale (see photo and details on web). A bull with exceptional muscling and power which he has passed on to his progeny.

Mara Jewel has a son in the sale (see website).

Our latest asset (Mrs Lesly Jackson and us) is Clipston Top Drawer T4 – a young bull with lots of potential. He is out of that lovely Clipston Pansy family that Clipston Bowman came from 4 generations back. Sire is Dieulacresse Goodenough, a bull who has done his share of winning in the shows. But, the exciting part of the pedigree are the 5 crossings of Brook Finalist through its depth. He is one of the great bulls of the last 30 years who left his mark here and at Badlingham.

We are very much looking forward to seeing his 1st calves on the ground – don’t miss the two in calf to him.

HERD HEALTH BVD – All 12 & 18 month old cattle tested for BVD annually - Clear Currently on a 1 year TB testing interval.

INCALF WARRANTY All females served, or running with, 10 weeks or more prior to the Sale are guaranteed Incalf under the Society’s Rules

EXPORT Any cattle purchased for export (including Northern Ireland) may return at the purchaser’s expense to the home farm, Nursery Paddock, where they will be maintained “FOC” until 5 days after the earliest opportunity to re-test them, from which time a charge of £20.00 per week, per head will be made.

In all instances cattle purchased must be paid for on the day of Sale and are at the risk of the purchaser from the fall of the hammer.

CLEARANCE OF SALE CATTLE All cattle must be removed from the Market following the Sale no later than 6.00 p.m.
