Marcus Click- The Creative Spotlight of The Month
Interview by The Heat Seekers
Marcus, thanks for taking time out of your day to talk to us.
The Heat Seekers: Tell us what made you decide to be serious about playing the saxophone professionally?
Marcus Click: I was inspired by the late-great Grover Washington Jr’s music and a Miss USA Beauty Pageant Contestant I saw on tv as a young child. I was in the 2 nd grade at that time. Later in my adult life, I became truly inspired by a phone call from the late saxophonist, George Howard, a conversation I’ll never forget.” He gave me great advice and advised me to never embarrass myself during a live performance and to be ready.

MC: Surprisingly, I would find himself with Rebbie Jackson (sister of Jacksons; Janet Jackson) during her show in Las Vegas. I knew his life was being routed towards a musical journey.
THS: What has been the most memorable moment for you while working in the music industry?
MC: I got booked to perform at the 2021 Jacksonville Jazz Festival, where I would end up opening up the festival for Jeffery Osborne and my favorite saxophonist, NAJEE. It was surreal! I couldn’t believe it after attending his concerts for years and talking to him as a fan. I would become his peer.

THS; Did you have a “I want to give up” moment in your career?
MC: Yes, I did. I had it multiple times during practice sessions. If I felt like an exercise was too difficult, I would want to give up or I’d cut my practice sessions short. Fortunately, I met the right people who would become my mentors, as well as mainstream musicians who encouraged me.
THS: What does the future hold for Marcus Click?
MC: I don’t know specifically what the future holds for me, but I believe it’s something great! I have full faith that I’m not only playing because I enjoy it, but because it’s my passion.
