Football

Welcome Welcome to the Grange Academies, where we offer high-quality coaching and education for ambitious young players in netball and football. As the Director of Sport here at The Grange, I know just how many of our students have a talent in both of these fields and we want to give each of them the opportunity to aim high and reach their potential. The Academies will provide a framework of structured training, coaching and education that will help them to achieve their goals. Our site which includes the nearby Sports Pavilion as well as our state of the art £6m Sports Centre and all-weather floodlit pitches offer students the very best in sporting and teaching facilities. We want our young players to enjoy and learn from their experience in both sports, as well as develop their resilience and mindset and foster good working relationships with the coaches and fellow players. The Grange Academies are a chance for students with potential to reach the next step in their sporting journeys, with excellent coaching and education providing the foundation for a lifetime of opportunities. Simon Williams Director of Sport and Development

Football We want each of our Football Academy players to benefit from the vast knowledge and experience of our qualified coaches and build on their own skills in order to aim even higher and fulfill their potential. The Grange Academy is the next step in their sporting journey. We are committed to encouraging players to;

Develop their ability to achieve their full potential, whatever that level may be Set targets and goals Develop a positive attitude including their relationships with coaches and players Develop a resilient mindset, and Enjoy and learn from every footballing experience.

This will be achieved through high-level coaching from a UEFA B licensed coach, regular structured training of 6 hours per week and matches in addition to the regular school programme. Individual fitness testing and training programmes will be designed to meet the needs of each player. Educational sessions will form the foundation for learning more about football strategy and we will also schedule talent ID sessions with scouts, coaches and academy staff. The Academy will also help provide pathways for students to football-related professions via Higher Education.

Meet the Coach

Tommy Spurr is a former professional footballer who played 400 professional games for Sheffield Wednesday, Doncaster Rovers, Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End. He has his UEFA B Licence in Coaching, has a Sports Science Degree and is completing a Post Graduate Certificate in Education. Tommy has coached football in the youth academy at Preston North End and was Director of Football at a prestigious boarding school.

Training We start the season with a pre-season camp, the week before school starts. The camp will include fitness testing, strength and conditioning sessions; and individual technique work. Once the season starts each player will train for 6 hours a week. This will consist of team training, position specific sessions, strength and conditioning and individual technique work. The players will be challenged and must be ready to work hard and be open to learning.

Matches School teams play a wide variety of matches and compete at the highest level of English school Football, competing both at county, national and international-level entering competitions, including ISFA, ESFA & County Cups. We will supplement the fixture list with additional games against local teams, shadow squads and age-specific academy teams.

Individual Plans Each player will receive an individual plan that is personal to them. They will then be given three targets to improve on throughout the year, which will be reviewed and feedback given. Parents will be given details of the individual plan, reviews and fitness testing results so they can see their child’s progress.

Trials We aim to help players reach their potential and for some secure playing contracts at semiprofessional and professional football clubs. Through contacts and talent ID sessions we are able to get players trials at some of these clubs. Please note: This is obviously something that is only for players who are dedicated and feel they are good enough to make that next step.
