If your marriage has been a little dull, consider infusing it with passion by trying these tips: Change it up Routine creates stability, but it also has an unintentional down side. Habituation (doing the same thing over and over) can lead to anesthesia. Boredom kills any relationship, a little at a time. Make small daily changes that let the fresh air in relationally; get up early and
watch the sun rise over coffee; surprise your partner with breakfast in bed; take a drive without a planned destination, or eat dinner on a table in the front lawn. Switch it up Ever have this conversation? Partner 1: “What do you what to do?” Partner 2 “I don’t know, what do you want to do?” Switch it up by alternating who is in charge of planning the night out. Here are some guidelines: • Flip a coin to determine who starts first. The winner plans the date for themselves. Pick a new activity or one that you haven’t done in a long time. Let your partner know to wear cutoffs or formal wear. Keep the rest a mystery. • If you are not the planner, try anything once. Have a good attitude and you may have more fun than you think.

JOURNAL YOUR JOURNEY Let your thoughts transform your life
The power in journaling rests in the fact that it’s not only where you record your insights and inspiration—but it’s where those insights become solidified and real. Journaling is a place where you can start thinking deeply about your vision and ideas, and where you strategize and plan the execution of those larger concepts. Before you start writing, you’ll want to get your mind in the right place. Take 30 minutes to get out of your regular environment and prepare yourself mentally. You might read, listen to some inspiring content, or working out. When journaling you want to write from a position of confidence, resolve, hope and expectation. This mental context will determine the quality and depth of the ideas and emotions you experience while you write. If you’re unsure where to start, here are a few tips: Write with gratitude and appreciation for your life. Take time to reflect on and write about the details of your life and relationships. Write about the people who matter. Write about how far you’ve come. Write specifics about what is happening, and what has happened. Recording your history is a crucial component of journal writing. Be honest about what’s going on in your world. After you’ve just expressed gratitude and appreciation for the brilliance (and struggles) in your life—be honest about where you’re not showing up. Commit to making specific changes. Write down the key changes you need to make to achieve your dreams and ideals. While writing about the things you need to change, openly write about the frustrations and difficulties that have led you to where you are. Be honest and vulnerable with yourself. The purpose of this writing is for you to get clarity, and to re-establish your priorities and focus. Write about your big picture dreams. These could be framed as your life vision, your three to five-year goals, or goals for the next three to 12 months. A key component of writing big-picture is that it reconnects you with your “why.” It’s very easy to lose sight of your why with the busyness of life. Journaling is a habit that can transform your life. Try it for 15 minutes a day, and see how your future unfolds!

VETERANS POST The Department of Veterans Affairs recently held a Gun Safety Matters Challenge to explore new ways of securing firearms and reducing the number of veteran suicides. Of the 20 veterans who die each day by suicide, over 60 percent use a firearm. The goal of securing firearms is to build in a break between the temporary impulse and the access to a gun. The device, per instructions for the Challenge, should allow firearms storage with voluntary prevention control, either by the veteran or a family member or friend. The device should be inexpensive, suitable for use in a home, and easy to implement. It also couldn’t impede access to the weapon should it be needed for emergencies or recreational shooting. The challenge winner is a device that requires two people present to gain access to the firearm. It’s called the DuoBox and the device physically requires two people to open, but also has a 30-minute delay feature that can be used by one person.
