Happiness can be defined as both the feeling of pleasure and the feeling of overall contentment. In general, we are often guided by a simple principle: seek pleasure and avoid pain. Another form of happiness involves self-reflection and determining oneâ€™s contentment with their whole life. Older adults often report high levels of life satisfaction. Things like regret may be minimizedâ€” even if there were negative things in oneâ€™s life. Older adults often show a â€œpositivity effectâ€? when remembering life events, such that positive emotional events will be more often recalled, than dwelling on negative things. Despite the evidence that old age can be a happy time, many hold the belief that youth is associated with happiness. As a result, both younger and older adults often think young people are happier. Psychologists asked groups of 30-year-olds and 70-year-olds which age group (30 or 70) they thought would be happier. Both younger and older adults choose the younger age group. When they rated their own levels of happiness, however, it was the 70-yearolds who scored higher than the 30-year-olds. Our attitude about aging plays an important role in what we will experience in older age. Research has shown that people who hold negative beliefs about aging are less happy in older age, and donâ€™t live as long as those people with more positive attitudes about aging.

CHOCOLATE MAYO SNACK CAKE A fast and healthy recipe

Ingredients • 1 ½ cups cake flour • Sugar substitute to equal ¾ cup sugar, suitable for baking • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa • 1 teaspoon baking powder • 1 teaspoon baking soda • ¾ cup fat-free mayonnaise • ½ cup unsweetened applesauce • ½ cup water • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract • 1 cup fat-free whipped topping • 2 tablespoons mini chocolate chips Instructions Heat oven to 350 F. Spray an 8x8”cake pan with butter-flavored cooking spray. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar substitute, cocoa, baking powder and baking soda. Add mayonnaise, applesauce, water and vanilla extract. Mix well to combine. Spread batter into prepared cake pan. Bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Place cake pan on a wire rack and allow to cool completely. Evenly spread whipped topping over cooled cake and sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over top. This cake will freeze well and serve up to eight. Each serving contains 163 calories, 3g fat, 3g protein, 31g carb., 394mg sodium and 1g fiber. Diabetic Exchanges: 1 ½ starch, ½ fat.
