The 3 D’s of determining your medicare part D plan
Enrollment in Medicare Part D is on the rise. Having increased 12 percent since 2017, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the popularity of this prescription drug benefit may be due to the decline in the cost of basic premiums, projected to drop for the third year in a row. Part D plans help people save on the costs of prescriptions. Knowing these three D’s will help you maximize those savings in 2020. Drug Coverage While Part D plans are approved by CMS, they’re offered through private companies. So, as with any other type of insurance purchase, plans will vary in coverage and cost, allowing you to choose one that best fits your needs. It’s important to know that plans change year-to-year, so one that covered your prescriptions in 2019, may not necessarily in 2020. Making sure the medications you take are covered by the plan you choose, at a price you can afford, will avoid costly
surprises. Deductible Don’t rule out plans on deductibles alone. That’s just one factor to consider. For example, a $0 deductible deal may sound good until you realize your medication is not covered. When comparing plans, consider what experts call the “overall cost,” which includes the premium you pay monthly, the deductible you’ll need to pay before your plan starts covering medication, and the copay. To estimate “overall cost,” make a list of your medications. Then, check how each is covered by the plans available to you. Due Diligence If you’re enrolled in a Part D plan, you’ll receive an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC). All plans are required to mail the ANOC by September 30 and also post it to their website by October 15. That notice will inform you of the changes your plan will make starting January of 2020. After my husband, Bob, and I left the Calgary Stampede, we decided to explore the Canadian Rockies. We drove through hundreds of miles of the most beautiful views you’ve ever seen.

Banff is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited! Banff is nestled in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. It is a charming and energetic resort town. You could spend weeks exploring the Banff and Jasper National Parks. After Bob and I left Banff, we traveled down the Icefields Parkway—a scenic drive that goes between Jasper and Lake Louise passing through the Columbia Icefield and the Athabasca Glacier. While in Jasper, we traveled onto the rugged icefields of an ancient glacier—I have to say, the chance to experience the magnificence of such a powerful force of nature up close was awe inspiring.

We then stopped in the cutest town called Kamloops, evidently it hosts its share of sporting tournaments during the winter, due to its mild weather. After Kamloops, we headed to the busy city of Vancouver—I wasn’t expecting to see such an incredible skyline.

One of our favorite places in British Columbia was Victoria—it was such an incredible place! Bob and I were truly impressed at the ferries that traveled from Vancouver to Victoria. While in Victoria, we visited Butchart Gardens—if you’ve never been, it’s a must see.

I hated for our vacation to end, but after driving 5,400 miles, we were more than happy to reach our driveway in Sun City West. If you want to see the Canadian Rockies, Bob would highly suggest you book a flight.

TIP 1 When you shop for shoes, go in the evening. Feet swell and expand throughout the day, so if you buy shoes in the morning, the fit might not feel too good later in the day. TIP 2 To get organized in the kitchen, start with baby steps. Every time you put away groceries, check your fridge and freezer for expired items that are ready to be tossed. Pull items from the freezer that have been there a while, and defrost them. Now, that’s what’s for dinner! TIP 3 To give rooms the illusion of extra height, hang curtains from a spot very near the ceiling. The long vertical lines of the fabric draw the eye up. It can be enough to make a very small room look and feel more spacious. TIP 4 Flat paint will show fewer defects on a surface than glossier paint, experts say. When refinishing a piece of furniture or a wall that has seen better days, try to stay with a finish that’s less lightreflective.
