OUR PRIORITY: FINANCIAL AID Access to a Governor’s education should not be limited by a student’s financial needs. In order to enroll as many qualified students as possible, we must invest in a robust financial aid program that enables students from all backgrounds to attend our school.

While financial aid has the power to change the course of an individual student’s life, it also has further-reaching benefits for all members of our community. Students come to Governor’s from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, but they all share the desire to contribute to a campus culture where different ideas, perspectives, and life experiences enrich our community and add meaningful dimensions to learning.

Our long-standing commitment to financial aid is rooted in our values and is central to our educational experience.

The financial needs of our students and families, and our ability to attract and enroll exceptionally talented and deserving students from everywhere, from all backgrounds, and at all levels of need, requires our continued investment. Roughly one-third of Governor’s students now receive financial aid, and Governor’s distributes over $5 million in aid each year. Economic and demographic forecasts suggest that both numbers will continue to rise.

The Campaign challenges us to envision a future in which 25–35% of the annual financial aid budget is provided by endowment income, a significant increase from current levels. Meeting this strategic imperative will strengthen the Academy’s commitment to its entire community in a lasting way.

Endowed financial aid will relieve pressure on tuition increases, add to the number of financial aid recipients, and institutionalize our commitment to an economically diverse student body.

THE ACCESS FUND “The Access Fund has transformed campus life for so many students,” says Edward Carson, Dean of Multicultural Education. Our financial aid program ensures that students can afford to enroll at Govs.

Once they’re here, the Access Fund ensures that every student has the opportunity to participate fully in life at the Academy, from music lessons to laptops, soccer shin guards to dance shoes.

Says Carson, “Think about students who can now order their athletic team’s jacket, or have their families on campus participating in Family Weekend events, or buy a meal in town on weekends—without worrying about finances. I like to think that Governor’s is an elite school not because of our acceptance rate, but because we have expanded the educational opportunities for talented and diverse students.”

Support for this essential fund enables Governor’s to be responsive and provide the same meaningful opportunities to students who are most in need.
