LETTER FROM THE COFOUNDERS
Dear trusted friends and supporters of The Goodness Web,
Thanks to your support, we are honored to share what we accomplished together in 2023
Through continued radical collaboration, we grew our Web to over 150 Founding Families, Accelerator Families, and donors; launched our next $20M fundraising campaign; and forged stronger ties with corporate partners and institutions.
We continue to collaborate with our inaugural grantee partners, where we witness the impact of our combined efforts in accelerating progress and advancing systemic change in mental health for youth. We see enormous opportunity to continue our work with these partners, and to expand our support to many other promising areas of prevention and intervention.
We take the stewardship of your gifts very seriously. The Swartz and Verdi families, together with the Board of Directors, funded all operating expenses of our organization in 2023, so that 100% of your dollars can be fully allocated to proven and promising organizations.
Together we are making a difference. Yet there is much more to be done. We continue to find hope and light in the promising programs, ideas and policies that can have an enormous impact on youth mental health.
Onward, with gratitude,
JAN AND ROB SWARTZ GINA AND MARK VERDICO-FOUNDERS
THE GOODNESS WEB
2023 IMPACT
Thanks to the generous support of our Founding Families, Accelerator Families, and donors, we have identified and catalyzed the impact of national organizations and initiatives tackling the youth mental health crisis at the systems-change level. In 2023, we continued our inaugural deployment of $6.1M in multiyear grants to four organizations. We are excited to share more details about their impact in the following pages.
INSEPARABLE
ADVANCE POLICY CHANGE TO IMPROVE YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH
Montana: H.B. 872 establishes a $300 million Mental Health Trust and paves the way for school mental health investments
The Goodness Web awarded an $800,000, twoyear grant to Inseparable, one of the most effective and results-oriented policy advocacy groups in the country focused on providing evidenced-based and proven mental health solutions to youth in our nation’s schools
Inseparable has made great strides in advancing mental health policy in their first 3 years of existence. In 2023, Inseparable helped facilitate the passing of 16 bills in 8 states Some accomplishments and highlights include:
Washington: Passed a first-ever $18 million carve-out in the capital budget for youth mental health infrastructure investments
Georgia: Kemp H.B. 19, a budget bill, allocated $26.9 million to improve the ratio of school counselors to students.
Colorado: H.B. 1003 supported mental health screenings in grades 6-12; S.B. 174 allowed student access to Medicaid mental health services without requiring a formal diagnosis.
14 focused state campaigns with seasoned local experts, targeted paid communications and policy expertise to introduce and move policy and new funding through state legislatures.
THINK:KIDS & MEADOWS
COLLABORATIVE PRIMARY CARE PROJECT
EXPAND SERVICE PROVISION FOR YOUTH AND PARENTS IN PRIMARY CARE SETTINGS
The Goodness Web awarded a $2 million, fouryear grant to fund a collaborative partnership between Think:Kids and Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute (Meadows) to close the gap in pediatric mental health support. This “Collaborative Primary Care Project” was exclusively made possible by a grant from The Goodness Web.
As we know, the demand for pediatric mental health care is enormous, and lack of access and underutilization persist across America. To address this challenge, some pediatric clinics are adopting an integrated care model whereby mental health providers are embedded within the pediatric practice.
While this has helped to address some gaps in care, children with behavioral and emotional challenges do not always meet the diagnostic criteria for mental health services.
The Collaborative Primary Care Project aims to close this gap in care by developing a selfpaced course geared towards parents and caregivers with children with mild to moderate behavioral health needs. The course has its roots in Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS), a proven approach to addressing youth with mental health and behavioral needs developed by Think:Kids. It will be made available to parents and caregivers via their primary care provider and can be combined with live, realtime support from primary care providers and behavioral health care managers The selfpaced course allows for low-cost and easily accessible support with a wide reach. Live support will provide more individualized intervention for families whose children are exhibiting more acute behavioral challenges
Initially rolling out in Dallas, TX, the project will eventually scale to communities throughout Texas and eventually to other states as well.
The team at Think:Kids developed the course throughout 2023; it is now in its final stages and anticipate it will be complete and ready for final testing in the spring of 2024. The Goodness Web team was given a preview and demonstration of the near-complete course and there is clearly a lot of enthusiasm for the end product.
THE JED FOUNDATION
IMPROVE SCHOOL SUPPORT OF STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH
The Goodness Web awarded a $1 5 million, three-year grant to The JED Foundation, enabling them to continue to build momentum and capacity for scale that had tremendous benefit in 2023 for millions of young people, families, and communities who are served by their programs and resources.
JED supports the mental health of teens and young adults by:
Strengthening schools by working directly with school districts, high schools, colleges, and universities representing millions of students to put systems, programs, and policies in place to create a culture of caring that protects student mental health, builds life skills, and makes it more likely that struggling students will seek help and be recognized, connected to care, and supported.
Building resiliency and life skills, promoting social connectedness, and encouraging help-seeking and help-giving behaviors through our nationally recognized programs, digital channels, and partnerships, as well as through the media.
Mobilizing communities by providing education, training, and tools to families, friends, media, community-based organizations, and others.
In 2023, JED’s significant impact included the addition of 95 colleges and universities to the JED Campus program and 47 new high schools, representing over 40,000 students, to the JED High School program. JED is now expanding their reach by partnering with the School Superintendents Association to provide PreK-12 districts across the nation with an evidence-based framework to protect mental health and prevent suicide for millions of students
Using the latest data from JED Campuses, JED updated its student-level data analyses. These data are impressive and will be published in 2024 Statistically significant findings include the fact that on JED Campus, students are more aware of resources; have better clinical outcomes, report lower anxiety and depression; and have lower rates of suicidal ideation, planning and attempts.
We are incredibly proud of our affiliation with JED, and we look forward to continuing supporting them as their work accelerates in 2024.
PATH FORWARD
IMPROVE INSURANCE PARITY AND EQUITABLE ACCESS TO MENTAL HEALTHCARE
The Goodness Web awarded a $1.8 million, three-year grant to Path Forward, a unique multi-stakeholder, national-local push to promote the evidence-based, data-driven practices and policies with the best chances of increasing equitable access to quality mental health care and accelerating integration of mental health and addiction care into the broader health system. They achieve results through radical collaboration across the entire health ecosystem; employer associations, mental healthcare associations; policy and implementation experts coming together to enact change in 3 highly leveraged areas:
1. Equitable access to mental health care, including adequate mental health networks and covered tele-behavioral health
2. Implementation of Collaborative Mental Health Care in primary care offices
3. Promotion of measurement-based care with purchasers, payers, and health systems
In 2023, Path Forward
Engaged ~20 major Fortune 500 employers in closed-door sessions with BUCA: Blue Cross Blue Shield (70M lives), UnitedHealthcare (46M lives), Cigna (16M lives), Aetna (38M lives). Discussions centered on what’s feasible to achieve together, and Collaborative Care (CoCM) emerged as a point of consensus.
Analyzed 10 health systems that were early adopters of CoCM to better understand the costs associated with implementation, which will support the expansion of integrated behavioral healthcare
Partnered with the National Alliance’s regional RESET coalitions and completed 20 multi-stakeholder meetings, which led to several regional demonstration projects, including a 13practice CoCM implementation project in Maryland and state-level policy changes.
SPOTLIGHT ON FUTURE IMPACT
FOSTERING INNOVATION FOR DIGITAL WELLNESS WITH PIVOTAL VENTURES AND SUSAN CROWN EXCHANGE
At the end of 2023, The Goodness Web awarded a grant to Young Futures – recently rebranded from the Design Lab for Digital Wellness – in partnership with Melinda French Gates’ Pivotal Ventures and the Susan Crown Exchange.
Young Futures is a nonprofit on a mission to empower young people to thrive in the digital age. It aims to move beyond the current fearbased narrative surrounding youth and tech by funding, supporting, and organizing a generation of innovative nonprofits who are designing and delivering solutions to give young people agency over their wellbeing. Youth mental health is rightly a national conversation, and the Young Futures team sees an important need to shift from sounding the alarm to showing the world “what are we going to do about it?”.
In March 2024, Young Futures launched their inaugural funding challenge, The Lonely Hearts Club, a $1 million open funding call to promote social connection, teen belonging, and wellbeing in a tech-driven world. Eligible early-stage organizations are invited to learn more about the challenge and apply by April 5th.
We are thrilled for the Young Futures team during this milestone moment and are proud to be partnering with our fellow radical collaborators at Pivotal Ventures and Susan Crown Exchange to make this exciting work a reality.

WELCOMING THE ABBINANTES TO THE GOODNESS WEB
Our family cares deeply about the mental health crisis, especially its impact on children and their families. We have gotten involved with TGW because they are emerging as a leading organization and consolidating force in this very complex and overwhelming area. TGW stands out because of their strategic and thoughtful investment approach, their ambition and, most importantly, their passion.
Chris and Martha Abbinante, 2023 TGW Accelerator Family2023 REFLECTIONS
WITH BOARD MEMBER JANE SACCARO
HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED WITH TGW? WHAT EXCITES YOU ABOUT THE FUTURE OF TGW?
My husband, Jay, and I were honored to join The Goodness Web as one of the first Founding Families. Like many, we have navigated the mental health system, seeking support for family members and close friends And we have been frustrated by how challenging it was to search for resources that were difficult to access, extremely fragmented, and often, left us feeling isolated. We were drawn not only to the mission, which hits so close to our hearts, but to the innovative way the organization is tackling a problem that can often feel insurmountable. Since then, we have been impressed with how quickly the Goodness Web has scaled to raise funds, distribute them in a highly effective manner, and connect families and organizations together.
It is an honor to join the Board of The Goodness Web at this critical juncture. I care deeply about the mission, and hope that my professional experience (helping both nonprofit and corporate organizations scale) can be of service to thoughtfully setting up the organization for future growth and reach. I’m very encouraged about the impact that early intervention and prevention can have for young people, and what hope that might bring to leading more fulfilled and healthy lives. And I am very encouraged that mental health is something we are talking about more and more, which offers opportunities for empathy, connection, and collaborative solutions.
BUILDING THE TGW COMMUNITY: SALON EVENTS NEAR YOU
In 2023, The Goodness Web launched our Salon Series with inaugural events in Boston, Chicago, and Atlanta. Our goal is to foster community for friends and supporters of The Goodness Web to connect with similarly passionate families, deepen understanding of the youth mental health ecosystem, share TGW’s impact on accelerating progress in the mental health ecosystem, and highlight in particular where there is hope, optimism, and solutions.
ATLANTA: NOVEMBER 2023
Our third in-person gathering of 2023 was graciously co-hosted by Dell and Mark Norman & Ellen and John Bender at the Goldman Sachs offices in Atlanta’s Buckhead area. Also in attendance were TGW Board members Gary Reedy and Les Williams, as well as Founding Family members CeCe Morken, Kristen Lewis, Elizabeth and Bram Hall, & Mark and Randi Wesley.
BOSTON: MAY 2023
We were pleased to have hosted our first ever in-person gathering in Boston, cohosted by Mark and Gina Verdi, Steve Loose and Michele Norman, David and Jessica Aronoff, & Jodi and Jamie Goldstein. We welcomed 70 total attendees; ~20 Founding Family members, ~40 new to TGW.

MY MT. EVEREST X TGW
2023 ANNUAL REPORT
To celebrate her 50th birthday, Founding Family member and Board of Directors member Jane Saccaro and her sister, Annie Mittelstadt, climbed the equivalent of Mt. Everest (29,029 feet) in 36 hours. They decided to make their climb more meaningful by building awareness and support for youth mental health and set out to raise $1 for every foot they would climb for The Goodness Web. We are thrilled to report that they completed the climb and met their fundraising goal, raising over $29,029! We are thankful for the 90+ donors (below) who supported their quest.

CORPORATE PARTNER SPOTLIGHT
RXSENSE
We are honored that Founding Family member Rick Bates helped to facilitate our first corporate partnership with RxSense, of which he serves as CEO. We are so grateful for their very generous donation and partnership.
In addition to connecting TGW with healthcare partners and clients, RxSense continues to raise TGW's visibility in multiple ways, including by promoting our partnership in posts across multiple social media platforms.
RxSense continues to extend to TGW their robust communications support through video content at company events, reaching out to us for quotes, and featuring TGW on SingleCare's nonprofit partners page.
We were thrilled to host and engage with RxSense summer interns to emphasize the importance of giving back, as Rick and his team have modeled so beautifully, and which we plan to reprise in 2024.
Additionally, we were humbled to introduce The Goodness Web to the broader RxSense employee base in the fall at their annual Company Meeting (below).
INSTITUTIONAL PARTNER SPOTLIGHT
ARTHUR M. BLANK FAMILY FOUNDATION & TMCITY
Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation
The Goodness Web is honored to announce that we are the recipient of a generous, multiyear grant from the Arthur M Blank Family Foundation
The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation is a philanthropy founded to help transform lives and communities by uniting people across differences to find common cause. Started in 1995 by Arthur M. Blank, co-founder of The Home Depot, the foundation has granted more than $1 billion to charitable causes. Our collective giving areas are Atlanta’s Westside, Democracy, Environment, Mental Health and Well-Being, and Youth Development. Across these areas, we take on tough challenges by uniting the courage and compassion of our communities so we can all thrive together.
Thank you to Beth Brown (Managing Director, Mental Health and Well-Being) and the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation board and team for their generous support!
TMCity
The Goodness Web is honored to announce that we are the recipient of a generous, multiyear grant from TMCity
TMCity is a venture-minded family foundation focused on transforming mental health by providing catalytic funding for innovative programs and companies working to find effective, real-world solutions to neurocognitive healthcare problems. TMCity makes grants and impact investments with the goal of advancing our understanding of the brain and increasing access to available therapies for better brain health for vulnerable populations across the United States.
Thank you to Belen Paley Cox and the TMCity board for their generous support! 2023 ANNUAL
Both of these grants generously help support this next chapter for The Goodness Web, where we will continue to invest in organizations that are implementing effective solutions, expanding approaches that we know work, and filling “gaps” in the ecosystem.
PARTNERSHIP SPOTLIGHT
2023 ANNUAL REPORT
2023 ONE MIND-BEN LANGFORD AND NICHOLAS HALL RISING STAR AWARD, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH TGW FOUNDING FAMILY MEMBERS
ELIZABETH AND BRAM HALL
Elizabeth and Bram Hall, Founding Family members of The Goodness Web, reached out to us interested in finding the highest-impact opportunity to honor two loved ones whom they lost to mental illness. Elizabeth’s father, Ben Langford, and Bram’s brother, Nicholas Hall, both passed away in March 2007 after long and courageous battles with mental illness.
Elizabeth and Bram desired to endow or sponsor professorships or other investigators in promising areas of mental health research via an organization with the sophistication to evaluate the scientific merit and potential to have the greatest impact. Elizabeth and Bram valued the unique knowledge base of The Goodness Web in identifying and triaging organizations that best accomplished this impact-centric goal.
The Goodness Web identified One Mind Institute, an organization with a renowned scientific advisory board that selectively grants Rising Star Awards annually to promising, early career investigators with an opportunity to accelerate evidence-based, scientific research to accelerate scientific advancements in mental health and improve mental health outcomes.
As a result of this collaboration, Arpiar Saunders, PhD (Assistant Professor, Vollum Institute, Oregon Health & Science University) was named as the recipient of the 2023 One Mind-Ben Langford and Nicholas Hall Rising Star Award for his work on the analysis of synaptic rewiring driven by schizophreniaassociated ion channels.
Congratulations to Dr. Saunders on his selection as one of three awardees from over 100 deserving applications to One Mind. We look forward to seeing the success of this research generate positive outcomes for individuals living with schizophrenia and their loved ones.
As we build our Web, we look forward to connecting families with similar philanthropic mental health interests across the country to share learnings, honor loved ones, and create meaningful synergies.
LOOKING AHEAD: 2024
ANNOUNCING OUR NEXT $20M CAMPAIGN
We are energized by the impact The Goodness Web is making to catalyze initiatives delivering kids and their families the care they need. We have raised over $13 million from 160+ generous families and have now awarded five multiyear grants focused on systems change, early intervention, and prevention.
We have now launched our second campaign to raise $20 million to scale even more innovative organizations and provide early-stage capital for emerging opportunities. We will strategically invest in two main areas: 1) expanding approaches that we know work, such as integrating mental health and primary care; and 2) filling gaps in the ecosystem where we know kids are, including the digital space, with effective solutions.
Our near-term goals are as follows:
