is the literary folio of The Gold Panicles, the official student publication of Caraga State University – Main Campus.

“Yaon” is a Filipino word that means, “there is”. It is a reflection narrating that there is a story inspired from people in different walks of life.

These stories are originally translated and interpreted by the scribes and artists of The Gold Panicles and its contributors.

FOREWORD

If we try to reflect and listen to what Mother Nature teaches about life, we will learn the truths in its seasons. Starting with this literary folio, the publication is to install a series of seasonal themes in its issues respectively, Summer, Autumn, Winter, and Spring.

Summer is the season of jubilance and vibrance by which most things bloom and are at their peak. It marks the end of gloom for it demands produce from the living. It provides an environment of vigor and brings out everyone’s energy. For this reason, everyone has the choice of what to make out of this drive. It may lead them to an exhilarating life journey or to a life of strife.

In this folio are the lyrics of blithe promises, burst emotions, and societal struggle.

Just as the sun emanates light, so do conflict and bliss originate from people’s doings and decisions. The folio’s literary pieces and playful lay-out are juxtaposed to show that the summer season is not just all about joy but can also be a time of great struggle.

Tainted

I am holding my pen as I talk to my friend, Thinking of a topic before the given time will end, But then I looked at my hand out of the blue, The pen’s ink I never expected to be there gave me a clue.

Staring at my hand that now looks dirty, It was once clean and to my clumsiness I felt guilty, I wonder if this is also what other people feel, After ruining their hands’ purity and refuse to do good will.

I wonder what those people actually feel, After they planned and eventually steal, After their hands are covered with fresh blood after they kill, But pretending that nothing happened and claiming their innocence still.

I stare at my hand once again, Thinking of a way to remove the trace of the ink of the pen, And I wondered how those people would clean their hands, If they continue to taint them and refuse to make amends.

The fall

Here I am surrounded by greens, By fresh air and with a great scene, Birds chirping and bees buzzing, It feels relaxing even when I found the latter sound bothering.

A gush of wind blew past me and the trees, I inhaled sharply taking in the freshest air I breathed in days, I looked up as I hear the rustling of the leaves, I watched as the trees seems to dance until it starts to behave.

That moment I witnessed a spectacular scene, When leaves from the trees start falling, brown or green, A lot of them fell that I lost count, Caught in the moment that I didn’t thought of taking pictures until almost all of them already fell out.

I tried taking a pictures and watch the screen, Waiting for another batch of leaves to drop brown or green, And they fell, a new set of leaves fell with the wind’s aid, I took pictures and a grin across my face is splayed.

Then I stared as the last one of them fall, That moment it seems like it’s dancing through the fall, I watched as it swirled midair, taking its time to complete the fall, Its color is a bright yellow green, I figured, it’s still a young leaf to fall after all.

I sighed as the thought of that leaf stayed on my mind, I wanted to replay the scene again and have all of its moment memorized, Is this the same feeling he felt watching me fall right through his very eyes?

Does he want to replay it all over again or had he already have it memorized?

The feeling of your touch that lingers in my skin, The shivers that it gives that got me spiraling into the spin, That familiar and alien feeling at the back of my mind is pinned, ‘Cause I don’t want to forget, every moment has never been forgotten.

The image of your hands placed on mine, Palm to palm and later then intertwined, Then my deep frown turns into a smile, As I looked and drowned in your brown eyes that shine.

I wanna feel the same shiver, That alien feeling I always remember, It’s been so long and now I’m all alone, But the feeling of being alone is still foreign though time goes on.

I wanna stare and drown again, Stare at your tantalizing brown orbs over and over again, And splay my weirdest smile like before, But I can’t because you aren’t mine now, unlike before.

Hindi Ako Siya Ni Violet

Mahal, nais kong ipaalala sayo na mahal na mahal kita, Nais kong sa araw-araw maramdaman mo ito dahil sa araw-araw na magkasama tayo, lagi kong ipinapakita ito. Pero bakit naging ganito?

Bakit naging ganito tayo ngayon kung saan nagiging iba na. Nagiging iba ka na.

Iba na ang kinikilos mo, iba na ang pakikitungo mo at iba na rin ang inaasal mo.

Alam mo naming mahal na mahal kita pero hindi ko alam kung bakit.

Kung bakit takot na takot ka kapag may kausap akong iba, Kung bakit galit ka na gad kung kaunti sa atensyon ko ay nawala sayo, Hindi ko alam kung bakit selos na selos ka na para bang hand aka nang manugod dahil kausap ko sila, Hindi ko alam kung bakit takot ka na gawin ko sayo ang ginawa nya samantalang hindi ako sya!

Hindi ako yung taong nangloko sayo, Hindi ako yung nanggago at nang iwan sayo, hindi ako, Lahat ng nakagawian kong gawin ay bawal, pumunta sa barkada ay bawal, kumausap sa mga kakilala ay bawal, magsaya ay bawal, Hindi ko na alam kung ano and pwedi pwera sa ilaan lahat ng oras sayo.

Sabi ng mga kaibigan ko daig ko pa ang tutang may tali sa liig, Daig ko pa ang isang malayang ibon na biglang nakulong sa hawlang walang takas, Daig ko pa ang isang presong may kasalanang karumaldumal dahil sa higpit ng seguridad, Pero wala akong pakialam sa sinasabi nila, Hindi ako nahihiya sa masabihang under de saya sayo pero kung pwedi naman sana, Kung pwedi lang, bigyan mo naman ng kahit kaunting kalayaan, Kung pwedi lang tanggalin mo yung tali na nakapulupot sa aking liig,

Do not be deceived by the smiles that you see, Search deep in their words for there is a fallacy, This world offers a party for us all, Prepare for the masquerade, let’s begin the show!

Be firm, don’t let them peek, You will lose if you let them see, Cover your scarred face with the mask that you use, Cover you scarred wrists, even your bruise.

Smile, show them your glow, Paint your darkness with a rainbow, It’s alright, just be pretentious, Don’t dare make them feel suspicious.

Swallow up your demons; hide all your monsters, Keep them still, don’t let them wander, Embrace all of them when the darkness comes forth, Embrace them when the show is over.

Let them have pleasure with your body, with your thoughts, with your heart, They long for you, from the very start, Let them kiss your body filled with scars, Let them delight in your thoughts that are covered in clouds, Let them make love with your severely wounded heart.

Isn’t it fun? The way live now, This is how we build up and then break down, You’re consumed; it’s taking over you, Oh, this is the greatest show.

Do not be deceived by the smiles that you see, For this is a mere fallacy, Destroy this show, take it apart!

For what’s on people’s face aren’t always what’s in their hearts.

Hindi ko sinasabing naghahallucinate na kayo ngayon at hallucination nyo lang ako kasi totoo ako, Pweding double meaning pwedi ring hindi, May kasabihan din namang to see is to believe, Pero naniniwala din akong hindi lahat ng nakikita ay totoo, Papatunayan ko to gamit ang dalawang argyumento.

Heto na yung puso kong pinaglaruan mo Wasak na wasak na oh Sana mapagod ka na Mapagod ka na sa paglalaro kasi ako Pagod na pagod na ako Ayoko nang maging laruan Dude, tao nga pala ako in case nakalimutan mo At yung pinalit mo sa akin?

Ay mali ulit. Di mo pala ako pinalitan kundi dinagdagan Wow! May nadagdag na naming laruan Pero sorry ka Hindi kasi rechargeable ang aking pasensya kagaya ng enerhiya sa mga baterya ang sa akin nauubos na ang pasensyang panggatong sa pagpapakatanga ay ubos na ang baba ko na no? kinukumpara ko na ang aking sarili sa isang laruan siguro ganun kita kamahal pero kasi tao ako eh deserve ko yung tamang pagmamahal hindi tamang paglalaro deserve ko yung taong mapagmahal at hindi yung gagong mapaglaro at higit sa lahat deserve ko yung trato na pangtao pati yung bagong dinagdag mo sa koleksyon mo maawa ka naman, tao din sya kagaya ko tao, hindi laruan tao.

She Needs Saving

Cold sweat runs down her face, As her heart beats in such a haste, Tears flow as her stare is fixed in place, With trembling hands she wrapped herself in an embrace.

Every little thing matters, With a mind that’s corrupted with fear, The sound of every heartbeat she hears, Feels like her heart is getting closer to her ear.

Oh dear! Oh dear!

For a young mind this is too much to bear, The life that was once so happy, so dear, Now turns into an abominable nightmare.

She climbed a chair to reach the disturbing ceiling and tied a rope, Although she’s having second thoughts but she’s losing hope, She cried as she stare and thoughtfully touched the rope, It would be easier this way, she hoped.

She choked as she cried harder, Bursting with more tears as she’s back to being sober, If not for these happy flashbacks that flooded her mind, If not because of them she could’ve continued to want to die.

But until when can those flashbacks hold her dangerous thoughts down, When they’re being countered with disgusted stares and words that drags her down, There’s no telling when is the time for her to fully drown, She needs saving! Not people’s wise judgment for their own good together with their frown.

‘Higugmaon teka’ pulong sa kasing-kasing ug buot para sa imoha ‘Higugmaon teka’ pulong sa kasing-kasing ug buot para sa imoha, Sa imoha nga pirme na lang sa huna-huna gatuyok, Sa imoha na pirme na lang sa baba malitok, Sa imoha nga pirme na lang sa buot mosuksok.

Wala ko kabalo kung angay bang ipadayon o maayong magpadayong mahadlok, Kay basig usa ka adlaw sa kilid maghilak na lang ko samtang gahinuktok, Mahadlok ko nga basig muabot ang adlaw nga bayloan ko nimo, Makakita ka ug laeng ‘inday’ nga mas makapagpalipay nimo.

Sa kada adlaw na ikaw akong makita, akong dughan naga uros-uros sa kalipay, Apan sa kada adlaw na kamo akong Makita, akong dughan naga uros-uros sa pagmahay.

Pwede ako na lang? Pwede kita na lang?

Promise, imong gugma dili nako sayangan, Kay kon imong kasing-kasing iyang giguba, walay problema kay akoy mu-ayo ana.

Pero saun pa man, siya man gyud imuha, Ang ginasyagit sa kasing-kasing, ang ginasyagit sa imong bugtong gugma, Sa inyo, dili na lang sa ko muduol, Aron dili nimo makita akong pagkaguol.

Bisag ako nabalo na ikaw walay gugma para kanako, Wala koy mabuhat kon ikaw maoy ginasyagit sa kasing-kasing nako, Mao sa pagka karon, ako naghulat sa tadhana na mu-timing, na basin puhon ikaw ma ako, og ako ma imo.

An old man he was And as frail as a hay He cast off his cane Where the memories laid.

Vignette remembering Onto it he gripped Once youthful smile Now wrinkled and ripped.

Came forth the sunset Still he was on the porch Still hunched on his chair With no shade from the scorch.

Summer-sun have made All the leaves to wither But another cold breath His eyes still glittered.

Gone was the sinking sun Darkness made its way Another wasted while Delayed his decay.

But his friend never came Name he could not say A promised arrival He’ll wait another day.

Lightweight fingertips caressed the body-dented bedspread.

The pillow feathers stuffed in the tear-soaked case, stood witness

I pray you smell them.

Tell me about your night.

Tell me about your dreams.

Tell me you love me, goodnight.

What colour does your dolorous tear paint when the mat seeps its lake?

What music does your fragile bones hum when their jugged ends percuss the embrittled bed?

Inez, of the farthest farm, your wails translate the admittance of unwanted soul– barged inside your upright core.

As identical fluids merge in will-less chamber, your body oozes silver sweat that hangs along with the warm breeze of late summer.

Radio Splendour

The radio played “If” of the band called Bread, and your image in a swan-white dress, paid a visit to my head.

Fiddle through my mind delicate fingers, and you’ll see– if I were to write as good as a song, I’d name it your name, the lyrics are my poems.

We’ll sing it together like feasting mavericks.

Hear the sensual overtones the mockingbirds mimic.

Dance.

Trip.

Laugh.

Love.

Funnel your wishes dearly on my tilted ear.

Drink fast, don’t blink; we’re drunkards of the year.

Sooner, as the noise vacate our rose-littered chamber, we’ll dance again– this time better.

Hearts just humming, the music is the air we devoutly share.

Fingers and thumbs go travel our faces.

Furnace and arms–warmth, bodies don’t shiver.

Later, as we tire ourselves out, we’ll close our eyes; lips on your forehead.

Dream.

Hug. Love.

Wake.

I’ll see your smile mirror the sunrise.
