Norwich Theatre Explores Climate in New Creative Matters Season

The Climate Crisis is the most pressing issue of our time, affecting people of all ages and backgrounds across the world. With the involvement of many artists, thinkers, activists and creative partners, Norwich Theatre venues will host a range of events and creative experiences exploring the climate crisis and presenting ways in which all of us can influence our collective future.

Creative Matters: Climate Stories is a year-long season, with performances, films, exhibitions, workshops and events that aim to stimulate discussion and make connections through creativity.

By telling climate stories that need to be heard, Norwich Theatre hopes to inspire individuals and communities to create social change.

Sam Dawson, Head of Creative Engagement at Norwich Theatre, said: “Creativity enables artists and audiences to imagine beyond the limitations of their own worlds, bringing voices together and revealing new paths forward.

“Through our theatres and other cultural venues across Norfolk, we aim to offer a safe space for audiences to contemplate, be challenged, learn and negotiate new thoughts around the climate crisis.”

You can get involved with monthly conversations about the climate in Theatre Conversations; get your voice heard during open mic night; watch a film about the sea or hear stories of television presenter and zoologist, George McGavin. More workshops, performances and events will be announced throughout the year.

Norwich Theatre is looking for partners to make or share work and local organisations to make a climate pledge. For information about how to take part, please visit norwichtheatre.org.

With Charlie & Suzy’ was born. It was – and is – an extraordinarily successful side hustle.

The concept is to bring together a room of between 30 and 50 single people, in a private venue. The evenings give people time to have relaxed face-toface interactions, rather than making immediate judgement calls via dating apps. In the three years that Socialise! has been going, Charlie and Suzy have brought together countless couples, forged lasting friendships, created two babies (!) and generally made the world a happier place, having hosted approximately 600 people to date.

People attend the events looking for ‘love not likes’. “You can be flattered to death on dating apps by people saying they’re interested while you sit on your sofa scrolling through your phone, but you never know how serious these people are about starting a proper relationship,” Charlie says. By making the effort to go to a live event, she explains, people are already going the extra mile. By getting off the sofa and doing more than just making very quick judgement swipes, they’re showing that they are interested in having a genuine relationship. The events themselves are great fun. They are relaxed, sociable affairs, with Suzy and Charlie ensuring that everyone mingles and chats, with great food and drinks being served and live music adding to the mix. Events take place every 8-12 weeks, and the next one is at the William and Florence, Unthank Rd, on

Friday February 17th. There is a 50:50 gender ratio, and the average age is anything from 35 to 60. Venues change, with The Georgian Townhouse, The Unthank, Bond, The George, The Wallow, and B'Nou all having featured previously.

If you’re single, why not give it a go? You might come away with a great love, or a set of brand-new mates, or even both. You’ve got nothing to lose and a lot – potentially – to gain. To find out more, email info@socialiseevents.co.uk www.socialiseevents.co.uk info@socialiseevents.co.uk

“We’ve met people who’ve had more than 200 dates through dating apps without success,” Suzy says. That’s an exhausting statistic. So, delete Tinder and Bumble right now and get out into the real world to make some real connections!
