Imaginative Drawings final outcomes

This was the first sketch I drew was of a shape I imagined both an unborn fetus and a decomposing body could inhabit. Reflecting on the shape I drew I think it

cocoon

resembles a as well as an hour glass, this is significant as a cocoon represent a transition between

two bodies + realities and serves as a means of

regeneration.

The connotations of an hourglass are the passage of time/time running out, again this is highly relevant to my project because as a baby is born their time is just beginning in contrast when someone dies their time is ending and this is parallel to the mechanism of an hourglass. Additionally the shape resembles the infinity symbol which fits the meaning behind project.

I had been thinking about the parallels of Birth and Death and in particular the

mourning some moth-

ers feel after they give birth as they have given up a part of themselves and in a sense a death has taken place. Once a mother has given birth they

transition into a new

reality or world. This is illustrated through the skeleton leaving through A pregnant stomach.

I had also been thinking

Mother Nature and the body as about

a means of growth which is represented through the

results in , However the flower itself represents Birth due to its correlation to growth.

The life cycle of a flower represents the beauty in

growth and decay as in all states both

the flower is a beautiful object. When a caterpillar is inside a cocoon does it know its going to turn into a butterfly?

Does it think it is transitioning from one world to another, using the cocoon as a portal?

When the caterpillar reaches its final state of a butterfly does it remember its prior life? Has the DNA of a caterpillar been used in order to

regenerate new life?

These words keep coming to mind whilst researching my concept and I think it is vital that my project embodies them. I’ve layered them on top of one another to try to convey the way they are floating around in my mind and the way in which they overlap and merge with one another. The imagery of a

butterfly and cocoon seems to con-

stantly be in my mind when thinking about outcomes for the project and I think my final outcome should pay homage to the

regener-

ation of a caterpillar to a butterfly.

This is a representation of what a potential interior could look like which is inspired by the imagery conjoured up in my imagination so far. I like the idea that a

de-

composing body could fuel the growth of an Artifical Womb which a baby is then

grown in. Both the growing baby and decomposing body would sit in parrelel pods, one would grow larger and one would shrink.

The boxes represent which may be placed on the site by loved ones of the person who is buried and by the parents of the baby. The idea is that parents place an object which represent who they are which they can come back to visit once their babies are born the same way family members visit a gravestone when a loved one dies.
