ALUMNI NEWS: FEATURING BLAINE MCINDOE, CLASS OF '14
Gateway Alum Blaine McIndoe ’14 is currently a senior studying filmmaking at one of the top film schools in the country: The University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA) – a school she chose also in part because of its size. “The school is so fantastic. I knew I wanted my college to be small. It’s very individual again.” She credits her acceptance back to her Gateway drama teacher. “He helped me to get into my dream high school, and then my dream high school helped get me into my dream college.” UNCSA has other elements that echo Blaine’s time at Gateway. “So much of what my teachers tell me now in college is what my teachers already told me at Gateway, like ‘stand up for yourself’ and ‘advocate.’ The amount of times I’ve heard ‘advocate’…It’s Gateway part 2!” Blaine credits her passion for and pursuit of filmmaking back to her time at Gateway when she joined the school’s drama and film classes. “I was taking drama already at Gateway, and my mom was encouraging me to do something else. So I joined the film class. (It was my sneaky way of still doing drama.) I was the oldest in the class and my film teacher wound up placing me behind the camera, instead of acting in front of the camera. I signed up again the next year.”
2014
Blaine is currently working on a passion project: her own short film, titled Tea Party, that she co-wrote and will be producing. In the film, a highly imaginative girl's bedtime routine is disrupted when her older brother is left with the impossible task of making sure she has a good night's sleep. The goal of Tea Party, Blaine shared, is to make people laugh. “Everyone’s had a tough year. I hope people watch this and they can laugh. I feel like it has something every age can relate to.” If you would like to support Blaine’s film, check out her Facebook page for ongoing updates: https://www.facebook.com/blaine.mcindoe/
