What is the GALPAL Collective?
Started in 2020, The GALPAL Collective is a collective dedicated to the celebration, curation and creation of works from underrepresented groups within the arts and media industry. Currently our focus is on community cultivation and our ethos is to promote and celebrate diversity in the Irish creative industry.

Directed by Her is an annual film festival organised by the GALPAL Collective. With its first year tickets selling out for our screening at the Irish Film Institute. Beginning its sophomore year now with the support of Screen Ireland, Directed by Her promises to be a fulfilling celebration for the women, non-binary and FLINTA* film communities of Ireland.

MARCH 9TH - THE WORKSHOPS@RUAREDARTSCENTRE
Join us on March 9th from 2pm to 5pm for The Truth Behind the Treatment, aworkshop is targeted at any upcoming creative navigating the world of treatments, pitch decks and freelance financing. This workshop will be run by Nell Hensey, a Filipina-Irish screenwriter, director and founder of Pure Divilment Pictures. Finance expert Carmel Seery will also be joining us to provide guidance on understanding the world of freelance financing.
THE WORKSHOP FACILITATORS
Nell Hensey is an Irish-Filipina Writer, Director and Development Exec from County Clare. As a writer-director, Nell’s work has been supported by Screen Ireland, The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon, RTÉ, Virgin Media Television and more She is also the Co-Founder and Creative Director of Pure Divilment Pictures.
For over 11 years, Carmel served as Group Financial Controller in an Irish software company, overseeing finance operations across multiple offices globally. Now running her own consultancy since 2019, Carmel aids entrepreneurs and microbusinesses in optimizing cash flow, resource allocation, and growth strategies for sustained success.

WHO’S INVITED TO THE SLUMBER PARTY?
Lychee (they/them), a Vietnamese-born and Dublin-based DJ and organizer, initially started as a club DJ. Their eclectic sound explores the interplay of dissonance and physicality in electronic music, merging global dance beats with experimental sounds. They co-manage BPM ENERGY, fostering FLINTA and LGBT+ electronic artists in inclusive and dynamic environments.
Miri is a tooth gem artist based in Galway, passionate about creating inclusive and accessible art. Inspired by POC and driven by a desire to foster confidence and individuality in others, Miri aims to provide a welcoming space where everyone can express themselves creatively. Katelyn Markham O’Halloran is a cinematographer from Dublin. She is fascinated by the intimate and absurd, and uses the lens as a guide for her minds eye Her visual language attempts to explore narrative truths by leaning into a voyeuristic style of shooting The most recent film Katelyn worked on as Director of Photography was nominated for a Kinsale Shark Award. Beyond this, Katelyn is a curious artist, photographer & dog-lover.
Alba Fernandez is a cinematographer based in Dublin and is currently one of Ireland’s most exciting female cinematographers Recent work includes Callus and Animal, both winners of Best Cinematography at the European Cinematography Awards 2023, Stable (Winner of Best Cinematography at Women in Film & TV Ireland Showcase 2023) and Licence for Nil, which were all selected for Galway Film Fleadh 2023
Sophie O’Donovan is a Cork born cinematographer and director based in Dublin She has claimed recognition from The Austin Arthouse Film Festival for the experimental film Skin Hunger in 2018, The Women in Film & Television Showcase for the film Dash in 2021 and The film Agility Award from the Arts Council that same year
