Ten gift ideas for ten styles of mother

f you’d like to branch out and be a bit more creative with your Mother’s Day gift this year, here are gift ideas for ten different types of mother.

The most beautiful gift is your presence

I

t’s a no-brainer that to show your mom how much you love her you could shower her with gifts: flowers, chocolates, a gift certificate for a spa, or a new book she’s been waiting to read. But if you really want to touch her heart, don’t forget to give a little of the most precious gift of all: your time.

All the finest gifts in the world could never replace your presence. You could invite her to have brunch at her favourite restaurant or spend some time with her preparing some home cooked meals to freeze. You could take her for a walk in the park where you used to go together when you were young, which is sure to evoke many happy memories for both of you. Leaf through old photo albums together or ask her to tell you about the happiest times of her life. Laughter and even a few tears will likely accompany the stories.

Your mother may need help with work around her home. Take advantage of her special day to do some helpful chores. You could clean the outsides of windows or help her do a bit of spring cleaning.

Happy Mother’s Day

You find yourself cutting your husband’s sandwiches into unusual shapes.

You fast-foward through the scene where the hunter shoots Bambi’s mother.

You obsess about your child clinging to you when it’s time to go to school, then you obsess about her running in without looking back.

You can’t bear to give away baby clothes — it’s so final!

You count the number of sprinkles on each kid’s cupcake to make sure they are equal.

You hide in the bathroom to be alone.

Your child throws up and you catch it.

Someone else’s kid throws up at a party and you keep eating.

You master the art of placing food on a plate without anything touching.

Your child insists that you read “Once upon a Potty” out loud in the doctor’s waiting room and you do it.

You hire a babysitter, because you haven’t been out with your husband in ages, then you spend half the night talking about the kids and checking in with the sitter.

You hear your mother’s voice coming out of your mouth when you say, “Not in your good clothes.”

You stop criticizing the way your mother raised you.

You read that the average five-year-old asks 437 questions a day and feel proud that your kid is “above average”.

You have time to shave only one leg at a time.
