AGENCY RELATIONS COUNCIL UPDATE

Agency Wishlist The Food Depot seeks the following items for placement with partner nonprofit agencies:

The Food Depot develops the first Agency Relations Council (ARC) in San Miguel County.

This year, The Food Depot implemented the first Agency Relations Council (ARC) in San Miguel County. Based in Las Vegas, NM, the ARC includes representatives from local partner agencies, public schools, higher education institutions, government, local businesses, and other interested entities who support efforts to end hunger.

The San Miguel ARC is focused on uncovering local resources and developing local solutions to the hunger epidemic.

The commitment of ARC members and their collaborative efforts has already begun to generate change.

Two agencies have added additional distribution dates and times, and new agencies and Mobile Food Pantry sites are in the process of being added.

DO FOOD BANKS SELL FOOD? That food falls into three categories:

 Food with no fee:

No, individuals or families never have to pay for food they receive from food banks.

As a food bank, The Food Depot’s primary responsibility to is locate and acquire food and to distribute that food to people in need. We get food from a number of sources, including food drives, grocery store donations, and bulk purchasing.

Food is distributed by The Food Depot through a network of over 145 partner nonprofit agencies.

When another nonprofit becomes a partner with The Food Depot, they benefit from the food and household supplies we are able to access. As part of the enrollment process, each agency is made aware of the three ways they can access food and household items from The Food Depot. Each week, partner nonprofit agencies are provided with an “offerings list” to order food from.

This category makes up over 80% of the food distributed

by The Food Depot. Free food includes food that is acquired through local donations and food drives. Examples include nonperishable items, fresh produce, dairy products and bread.

 Food with a Shared

Maintenance Fee: This category refers to food items that are brought in from other locations in New Mexico or from out of state. Sometimes food donations are made, but The Food Depot has to pay for shipping. Examples are nonperishable food and household products. For these food items, partner nonprofit agencies are charged “Shared Maintenance”, a fee of 16 cents per pound.



Food that is part of the

Co-op Purchase Program: This category refers to food that has been purchased in bulk to take advantage of wholesale pricing. Examples include items

not often donated, such as canned meat and peanut butter. The cost of this food is passed on to the partner nonprofit agency that requests it—no additional fee is charged.

The agency pays what we pay. This keeps a rolling fund to make bulk purchases with.

Each item on the “Offerings List” is clearly identified, so our partner agencies know exactly what, if anything, an item will cost.

80% of the food distributed has no fee!

The Food Depot believes in offering choices. Every week, our partners can choose which types of food they want to receive. Our partners make these decisions based on many factors including client needs and budget. All of our partners have the option to get food completely free of charge.

Donor Profile George R.R. Martin In June, George R.R. Martin initiated a fundraising event through a company called Prizeo. This company specializes in online fundraising efforts by celebrities using a crowdsourcing approach where many donors give varying amounts to collectively make a big impact. To stimulate George R.R. Martin and his wife Parris McBride Martin, present a generous donation to The Food Depot's Executive Director, fundraising, George offered Sherry Hooper a series of prizes at different giving levels, with the top cash donation this campaign is sure "prize" being the opportunity to be to provide, the visibility that it has written in as a character in the last brought to our organization has been installment of the Game of Thrones priceless. HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVES Visit these stores: Whole Foods Market: At the Cerrillos and St. Francis locations, the Feed 4 More program allows shoppers to donate at the register. Nationally, the goal is to feed 1 million people.

Natural Grocers: During the months of November and December, the store will match shoppers' donations at the register nationally, up to $50,000.

Sprouts: The annual "Grab and Give" allows shoppers to select and pay for pre-packed bags with all the fixings for a holiday meal now through December 30th.

Feed 4 More Section allows shoppers to donate easily at the register at Whole Foods Market.

This holiday season, area grocers make helping those in need as easy as your next shopping trip.

Smith's Food and Drug locations in Santa Fe, Taos, Los Alamos and White Rock are collecting non-perishable food and also conducting their annual Bringing Hope to the Table.

Donate at the register and proceeds will be donated in the form of gift cards to benefit The Food Depot.

The second annual Furry’s Buick GMC concluded on November 15th and was a great success!

The city-wide food drive brought in a total of 8,702 pounds from various locations in the greater Santa Fe area.
