STATE AND FEDERAL REPORTING Compared to last week: Slaughter lambs and feeder lambs were steady. Slaughter ewes and slaughter bucks traded mostly steady. In goats, slaughter kids were sharply lower, while slaughter nannies/does were steady and billies and wethers were steady. Trade activity and buyer demand were moderate to good. The sheep supply consisted of approximately 24 percent slaughter lambs, 19 percent feeder lambs, with the balance being slaughter ewes and bucks. The goat supply consisted of approximately 75

Feeder steers under 500 lbs did not have enough comparable trades to accurately trend. Those between 500-600 lbs traded 3.50-10.75 higher and 600-700 lbs were mostly steady. Steers over 700 lbs traded unevenly steady. Feeder heifers under 500 lbs did not have enough comparable trades to trend. Heifers weighing between 500-600 lbs traded mostly 3.50 to 10.00 higher, while 600-700 lb heifers were steady to 2.25 higher and those over 700 lbs were mostly steady. Slaughter cows traded mostly 1.00 to 3.00 lower, while slaughter bulls were steady on a light offering. Today’s offerings were mostly young calves with a sizable offering of yearling cattle that contained a wide array in type. The majority received at least spring shots and some fall shots. Cattle that were weaned with spring and fall shots commanded the highest demand. In feeder cattle, the run consisted of 64 percent steers, 36 percent heifers. Approximately 50 percent of the run weighed over 600 pounds. The total run consisted of 84 percent feeder cattle and the balance in slaughter cows and bulls. The next available report will be November 7, 2018.

Please have butcher cattle in by 9:30 or bring them in the day before. Most of the time they will be sold by 12:30 on Thursday. Sheep must be unloaded into our yard by 10:00 OR bring them in the day before. Please have bred cows in by 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday for our vet to preg check.
