STATE AND FEDERAL REPORTING Compared to last week, today’s run comprised of long weaned steers and heifers with multiple rounds of vaccinations. Feeder steers less than 550 lbs traded 5.00 lower to sharply lower, 550 – 750 lbs were 1.00 to 5.00 higher and steers over 750 lbs traded 5.00 to 7.00 lower. Feeder heifers under 700 lbs traded mostly 1.00 to 3.00 lower with instances of 5.00 lower and heifers weighing over 700 lbs traded 2.00 to 5.00 higher on a light test. Trade activity and buyer demand was good. The supply was comprised of 100 percent feeder cattle. STATE AND FEDERAL REPORTING Compared to last week slaughter lambs were sharply lower on a thin test. Slaughter ewes and bucks mostly steady. In goats, slaughter kids were 4.00 – 11.00 lower and slaughter nannies were mostly steady. Slaughter billies and slaughter wethers were mostly steady. Trade activity and buyer demand was moderate to good. The sheep supply consisted of approximately 51 percent slaughter lambs and 5 percent feeder lambs with the balance being slaughter ewes and bucks. The goat supply consisted of approximately 62 percent slaughter kids, 32 percent slaughter nannies/does with the balance being slaughter billies and wethers. Sheep and lambs sold on a per cwt basis and goats sold on a per head basis unless otherwise noted. Today’s supply consisted mostly of home raised, preconditioned calves with multiple vaccination programs and long wean periods. Trade activity and buyer demand was moderate to good. Feeder steers under 600 lbs were mostly steady to 3.00 lower, steers 600-750 lbs traded 5.00 to 6.00 lower and steers over 750 lbs were steady to 4.00 higher. Feeder heifers under 600 lbs traded 3.00 to 7.00 higher on good buyer demand, 600-700 lb heifers were steady to 3.00 lower and heifers over 700 lbs traded unevenly steady. The run was comprised of 100 percent feeder cattle of which approximately 55 percent were steers and 45 percent were heifers with approximately 64 percent of the run weighing over 600 lbs. USDA-CO Dept of Ag Market News • Sterling Livestock Commission Company - Sterling, CO • Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for Wednesday, January 17, 2018 Compared to last sale, feeder steers under 600 pounds traded unevenly steady, while those over 600 pounds traded mostly steady to 5.00 lower. Feeder heifers under 600 pounds traded steady to 7.00 lower, while those over 600 pounds were steady to 4.00 lower on a light test. Slaughter cows and bulls have had no test for over a month, therefore there is no comparison available. Trade activity and demand were moderate to good. In feeder cattle, the run consisted of 53 percent steers, 47 percent heifers, with 51 percent weighing over 600 pounds. The total run consisted of 68 percent feeder cattle, 5 percent bred stock and the balance mostly slaughter cows and bulls.
