STATE AND FEDERAL REPORTING Compared to last week slaughter lambs and feeder lambs were steady. Slaughter ewes and slaughter bucks traded mostly steady. In goats, slaughter kids traded sharply higher, while slaughter nannies/does were steady and billies and wethers were steady. Trade activity and buyer demand were moderate to good. The sheep supply consisted of approximately 17 percent slaughter lambs, 12 percent feeder lambs, with the balance being slaughter ewes and bucks. The goat supply consisted of approximately 63 percent slaughter kids, 29 percent slaughter nannies/does with the balance being slaughter billies and wethers. Sheep and lambs sold on a per cwt basis and goats sold on a per head basis unless otherwise noted. USDA-CO Dept of Ag Market News • Sterling Livestock Commission Company - Sterling, CO • Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for Wednesday, October 10, 2018 Compared to last sale: Demand and trade activity moderate to good. Feeder steers under 500 lbs traded mostly 8.00 higher to sharply higher, 500-800 lbs steady to 4.00 higher, and over 800 lbs 2.00 to 7.00 higher on a light test. Feeder heifers under 750 lbs were mostly 3.00 to 4.00 higher with no test on heifers over 750 lbs. Today’s offerings were mostly pre-conditioned calves with at least spring shots and some fall shots. The yearlings were coming off grass. In feeder cattle, the run consisted of 58 percent steers, 42 percent heifers. Approximately 49 percent of the run weighed over 600 pounds. The total run consisted of 95 percent feeder cattle and the balance in slaughter cows and bulls. The next available report will be October 17, 2018.
