HARVESTING THROUGH PATIENCE It is another time dear readers that we come together in the 13th edition of The Favourite Magazine. What a joy and a blessing to share this wonderful journey together. The Africans have a proverb that states : words are like eggs – when they are hatched ,they have wings .It is my desire that as we continue sharing this platform, the words will lead to a good harvest and bring joy and fulfillment in our lives . As I put together this edition, it was apparent to me that Kenyans are actually going through tough times but they are still pushing on and patiently waiting for things to become better. Everyday, I have seen Kenyans waking up early .and going about their daily hassles with a determination and patience that I admire. The prolonged rains have seen them in the shambas planting and weeding , ready to take advantage of the unusual weather pattern . They have complained of bad roads but this has not stopped them from passing the muddy rough section to reach where they must . Desert locusts came and took over the news from our political leaders who are always fighting over one issue or another in the media. Though the locusts have destroyed crops all over my fellow Kenyans have started afresh and hoped something will survive. Then the world has given us another cause of fear in the form of Corona Virus, we all wait with anxiety but rather than lock ourselves in our homes we move out and do what we must hoping for the best. It is this spirit for a better life today and tomorrow that is revealed in all the people you will encounter in this edition. As you read and get insights into the amazing things they are doing , I wish you the best in your own situation .Keep strong. Keep smiling. Keep working. Keep a positive mind set. Just take precautions and mind the welfare of your neighbour as you make your own world better. Life is a journey that must be taken without a return trip. When we are born , we are given an express mission to be the best and make our stay in this world worthwhile . We grow daily and learn and gain a vast amount of experience. But life has a flip side; human beings can and do become complacent ; Individuals do make mistakes some of which affect lifetimes. Life itself is full of challenges , some of which leave individuals hopeless.Life itself is full of bright lights in the red districts which leave individuals with the high of party after party . Life itself is full of comfort zones where we can make our beds and forget our responsibilities in the denial that tomorrow is coming and the exam of life does present us with below average results .

Dear youth, life has standards and each of us must strive to set our own high standards and chart a life of excellence. We cannot afford to compromise and swim in the back waters of this life. The days of our youth are the best years of our life. They are packed with energy , promise ,opportunities ,adventure and a wide strong support system. Often times we take these advantages for granted . We forget that the time we have in this world is limited . It is Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945) who reminded us that ,”Time is the most irrevocable" . And
then Thales , a Greek philosopher {640 – 546 B.C ] left us the wisdom that “ The most difficult thing in life is to know yourself.” So, as a young person, what is my take? It is important to realize that excellence requires sacrifice, hard work and the focus to concentrate only with the best. It calls on each young person to really invest in assimilating all virtues and making them a way of life. It calls for rejection of all vices and walking the straight path no matter the difficulties encountered . It means being realistic and accepting the drips and curves of life and how all challenges build our character. It calls for total embrace of God and knowing you are nothing without Him .It is a call for choosing only that which is right and paying the cost . Dear youth , always keep remembering you’re in the cockpit of your flight and the controls are in your hands . If you slumber or mess at your base, the crash from the altitude of your youthful flight will be fatal. Choose life. Choose excellence. Choose success. ,Choose nobility. Choose integrity. Adieu

THE PATRON OF GOD’S SHEEP ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND BEYOND By Suzie Shot on Location: Thayu Hotel Tigoni (Limuru) When reflecting on the Christian journey, we have a prayer associated with St. Patrick who was a fifthcentury Romano-British Christian Missionary and Bishop in Ireland, which states:
I bind to myself today God’s Power to guide me, God’s Might to uphold me, God’s Wisdom to teach me, God’s Eye to watch over me, God’s Ear to hear me, God’s Word to give me speech, God’s Hand to guide me, God’s Way to lie before me, God’s Shield to shelter me…. And in this time and age, especially with turbulence of world order as a result of COVID-19, one wonders whether Christian virtues and dedication can be found in the men and women of today. Have we learnt our lesson that God is supreme and we’re just vessels to do His will? These are the thoughts that crossed my mind as I ventured into the busy Thika Super Highway to an equally busy office as people lined up to consult the equally busy man I was set to interview that cold morning. I was in awe of this clergy-man who has a way with people of all walks of life and surprisingly has cut a notch for himself in the social media, a preserve which has hitherto been associated with the young flashy crowd without a care in the world. Thus, when my turn came, I was

upon themselves to make it better for their children. It has paid off and these siblings, even with their one brother and their dear mother rested in the Lord, are such a tight knit of love. His brother passed on in 1995 the mother on 6th January 2019. This Father Charles Kinyua hails from humble coming to the world in the the Archdiocese of Nyeri, Kiganjo Parish. Inspiring lives congregation he could not see. That stuck and today forms his core online missionary activities. One thing about the old priest that amazed the young boy was how on week days Father Carlo, a Civil Engineer, would don workman’s clothes and be up and about with the “fundis” building their home church. He felt this is what real religious service was, not just secluding oneself at the altar and sacristy. Thus, unbeknown to this young congregant, a seed of passion had been sown through a Mzungu missionary. By class 7, young Kinyua was teaching catechism and on entering secondary school, this never waned. But there was a hitch. Watuka Mixed Secondary School in Mweiga was Protestant Sponsored (ACK) thus catholic related activities were minimal. Fortunately, another stable adult came into his life to nurture his calling. The Principal, the late Peter Kihuria, gave the catholic group leeway to go about their activities and the CA (Catholic Action) group was active under this motivated young man and catechist. He is full of praise of the late Kihuria who became his great friend. The single-mindedness of this young man was evident considering the reality around us where young men drop church and its matters the moment they get into adolescence. After completing his secondary school studies, he planned his next phase of life. Being a responsible son, he shared his life plan with the key men of his family – his father and elder brother. He had made his decision to join the seminary. They had no objection and gave their blessings. But there was a major hitch – his mother! This woman he loved so dearly had different plans for a son she adored. He was named after her brother and it so happened that he had died without leaving behind a family. It was upon her young son to start a family, get children and name her. She was not ready to see him go to church service that meant he would never marry. But the call to ministry in the young man could not be stopped, so he used a little cunning to join the seminary amicably. He told the mother he had gone to Nairobi to seek a job and thus joined Seminary Formation Training and stayed through all challenging moments for 9 years
completing on 28th November 2003. In December 2003, he was posted to Kariko Parish as a seminarian and served for 6 months up to June 2004 when he was recalled to prepare for his ordination. He also served in Karima Parish as a deacon having gone through the church ritual on 4th December 2004. On June 11, 2005 he received the Sacrament of Holy Orders to be a priest. With time, his mother had known the truth and begrudgingly let go but he couldn’t help noting the sadness in his mother’s face throughout the mass during his ordination. He was posted to Othaya Catholic Parish in June 2005 where he served for one year till June 2006. He was then sent to school at the Catholic University, Tangaza College. An individual always eager to add his knowledge, he enrolled for his first civil degree. This is against the backdrop of the requirements of priesthood as he already had two canonical degrees – one in philosophy and one in Theology. This time he pursued Journalism majoring in TV production. On completion, he went back to the Archdiocese of Nyeri and worked at the Consolata Institute of Communication and Technology where he was principal for 4 years between 2009 – 2013. He taught Journalism at the Institute as well as lecturing at Christ The King Major Seminary and other places. In July 2013, he was seconded to Nairobi Headquarters at the Secretariat of Kenya Catholic Bishops in the Commission of Social Communication docket. This saw him work at Radio Waumini as a Radio Producer for six years between August 2013 to January 2020. He was then posted to the Archdiocese of Nyeri to await further instructions which when they came, he was posted in the Chaplaincy of Dedan Kimathi University. Never one to let chances slip by, when in Nairobi, he enrolled for his masters degree in Film Technology at Kenyatta University and graduated in 2019. He then embarked on his PHD studies pursuing the line of Social Transformation using Social Media which he hopes to complete in 2021. These intellectual pursuits got him interested in social media. Inspiring lives It was a link to his class 6 dream where he had talked to invisible people as a priest. While pursuing Journalism at Tangaza he had opened his facebook account and this began his online ministry. His fellow clergy had dissuaded him fearing for his reputation amidst the loopholes of social media but he braved on. As a man of God with a divine purpose, he meant to find the good in the slippery social media and plant good fertile seeds there ready for the Lord’s harvest. With time, being passionate about teaching and family ministry, he spread his wings to other internet platforms like twitter and You-tube. That is how the world has come to know Father CK and his following is great as he is positively influencing the social media internet space in a magical way. He has zeroed in on the Family Therapy Ministry and apart from social media, has an office where he offers family therapy.

inclined to serve as priests and sisters (nuns) in the Catholic Church but there is hope. He feels they have the desire and the call but are sidetracked by the negativity around them. He states that the call dies in the kitchen as parents talk so negatively about the clergy and the church in the hearing of these children. Others grow up bitter and empty due to the family challenges around them. His call and prayers is for family to be positive about the church as this will actually save the society. Also, Seminary Formation is quite intensive and expensive and people should willingly and purposefully support it. For those wishing to join the vocation, they should be sure it is service, not running away from family and it requires one to seek education.
Nostalgic moments
When finally his mother came around and fully embraced his calling to priesthood. He always remembers her joy as he celebrated his 10 years as a priest. It was unfortunate that she was incapacitated by a stroke which she suffered as he was joining university and passed on after 12 years from the complications.

Future Aspirations
To carry-on the online work so that it may grow and mutate into a solid foundation that will outlive and
immortalize Father CK in his noble service and allow young people realize their dreams. The work to put in place the Father CK Foundation has been on-going for the last two years and with God’s grace will be realized soon and hopefully be launched by the end of the year. It incorporates everything he has done on the various social media platforms and also has a 100% online radio. His plan is to operate on cyberspace. This Foundation is a large family covering 139 countries and will bring on board volunteers and supporters. He aspires that it be an anchor where people’s spirituality is helped to grow, family values strengthened and excel as a conveyor of hope and truth to humanity. He worries about our world where truth is becoming foreign and people are destitute. He challenges all his followers to be conveyors of the same hope.
Parting shot
“Dear good people, wherever you are, whatever it is that you do, small as it may be, give it a touch of quality and a taste of excellence. Don’t do it for you, do it for the ONE who gave you strength, our Father in Heaven. It’s not about us, it is about Him, all for the greater glory of God.” As I concluded the interview, I had forgotten how cold the day was, for the warmth of a human heart and the passion for a better tolerant humane world had enraptured me and added a spring to my step as I also went out a better inspired individual. And the words of Pope Francisco rang in my mind that, “The family must be a place of life and not a place of death; a place of forgiveness; a place of paradise and not a place of hell; a healing territory and not a disease... a place of support and not of gossip and slander of one another; a place of welcome and not a place of rejection.”

“Who I am� My name is George Thairu Githara, son to David Githara and Rechael Wangui. I am a first born in a family of five and born in the 90s.I come from Kianjogu village in Githunguri sub county.
Real Life I have a Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Nairobi, specializing in Kiswahili and Geography. I am currently teaching at Githiga boys in Githunguri sub county. WHY LIBRARY? A library is a bank of knowledge. The library field is thought to be ancient and old fashioned. In the west, the developed nations invest in libraries of various kinds and this improves the reading culture.but in most Kenyan communities, you rarely find libraries that people can utilize unless in cities and institutions. I saw the gap in that field and therefore filled it by starting one at Ikinu town on Githunguri Kiambu Road. Offering library services to the people is a good way of giving back to the society to the glory of God.

By the end of that weekend, my salon network had donated many books. I pursued my idea ,and in December 2018, we opened the library. From that time, we have had book donors making my dream a reality .To mention a few , the Ikinu MCA Honorable Stanley Wanjiku donated one shelf ,Jeniffer Liz ,Jasmine , Paul Muiru, JT, Wamacharia wa salon [Githiga ] Mama Vivian,family and friends . I have made numerous trips to collect donated books from Thogoto ,JKIA ,Kijabe, Karatina. The donation plea is still open. Please bring that book to us , it will make a positive change in the society.

Real Life CHALLENGES The greatest challenge is financial as the library space is big with a capacity of 75-100 learners and therefore the rent is high. On my part, being a B.O.M teacher means the salary is low.It becomes difficult to manage the library as it has not fully stood on its own. Books are very expensive especially in the current world. Purchasing them is a challenge. Lack of donors to hold my hand in this noble task. WHAT MAKES MY DAY I like making a little heaven on earth by being a professional teacher with a Golden touch to mentor students to be the leaders of today and tomorrow to the glory of God. Also to instill a reading culture to the community. LEISURE I like reading. My favorite book is the Bible. I also like collections by Sidney Sheldon, Daniel Steel, Ludlum, Nelson Demille and finally Christian literature. PARTING SHOT Thanks so much to all the good people who have donated books or any other materials to the library. They have touched the hearts of many learners. May God bless you. Any donors are very welcome to hold my hand in this noble task. As I gave this wonderful library a last look after my grand tour, and reflected on what George had shared with me, I agreed with his mission. Books and reading are vital in our communities . EMBRACING THE GRACE OF THE CROSS. This long drawn COVID-19 season has been a game changer in every single individual around the globe. No one can deny the fact that God's Might has been manifested in relation to human folly. As Christian's, we centre our faith on Christ Jesus. We anchor on His birth that we are looking forward to in the Christmas season in a few months time. Again on His death and resurrection in the Easter story. It so happened that the Easter story 2020 came to the world as a black black Friday with all the lock downs, sickness, deaths, mass graves and great fear. We forgot the Resurrection and the joy of a third morning when the tomb was empty and the angel of God entreated the first witnesses not to fear but to go on and meet the risen Christ as He had gone ahead of them to the appointed place. So, let us revisit this wonderful thoughts of Easter for they give us hope and direction when darkness, a Cross, a Crucification and a dark sealed tomb clouds our thoughts.

Reflecting through Easter events can bring meaning in life and positive embrace of life no matter what. One of the key persons in Easter events is the story of St. Mary Magdalene, from whom we can mirror a few qualities in her to walk through this life. Just as the source of every river is Immaculate and lovely, so does our life in its beginnings; but as we negotiate different developmental stages ,We not only lose our innocence but hope too disappears.

We all need to co-operate with the reality of the positive influence either through people or the surroundings to bring that change. The readiness to totally give in to the positive self, one's time and even his or her investment is important for any credit. Mary Magdalene gave not only her time to be with Jesus but her expensive oil and more so her

Persistence is paramount in life, as the saying goes don't die when you are still conscious for consciousness is an indicator there is hope .Mary Magdalene was not discouraged seeing her master, beaten, helpless on the cross and even put in the tomb. She kept her hope ,walking in the darkness to find her Master for she knew that was Messiah. Hope and courage to live should be the last thing to die in you. Never allow life circumstances define your life but confidence in the master you follow and in this case Our God.
Lastly from Magdalene's story ,she was genuine, she approached Jesus with her past and healed spiritually. She could have been mistaken for other things. Culture too could have judged her, but she chose to be herself before Jesus. As we negotiate our lives moved by the life of St. Mary Magdalene ,lets embrace the spirit of courage to break from the past, investing in the right place and to the right Master, being persistent in hope and being our real self.

They could not start thinking how the magazine would brave the stiff competition in the market. I took the doubting Thomas in my stride. There was no turning back. My resolve was steadfast: forward ever, backward never! It didn’t matter that the field was rather crowded by an ally of magazines. What mattered was a belief in myself. With 13 editions out and never missing a subsequent quarterly copy, no one can accuse me of blowing my own trumpet. I have proved wrong those who never gave Favourite a chance. But here lies the secret of it’s success: you the reader and the advertisers! Your support has been invaluable and without you The magazine would have died a natural death. Every copy you have bought on the streets has been an inspiration to write and produce a better issue.
