Warning Signs of Youth Suicide: Source: sandyhookpromise.org
Rates of youth suicide have been steadily increasing. A recent survey found that seven in 10 teenagers are struggling with mental health, with more than twothirds feeling pressure to hide their true feelings and deal with their problems on their own.
Warning signs that a youth may be experiencing suicidal thoughts include: Talking about wanting to die, be dead, or suicide, or they are cutting or burning themselves. Feeling like things may never get better, seeming like they are in terrible emotional pain (like something is wrong deep inside but they can’t make it go away), or they are struggling to deal with a big loss in their life.
Your gut is telling you to be worried because they have withdrawn, become more anxious or on edge, seem unusually angry, or just don’t seem “normal” to you.
Be especially vigilant for warning signs from anyone exhibiting any of the following:
• Having thoughts of suicide or past attempts.
• Engaging in self-harm like cutting or burning
• Dealing with depression, anxiety, or severe emotional distress
• Experiencing prejudice, discrimination, or pressure to be someone they are not
• Abusing drugs or alcohol
• Patterns of highly aggressive or illegal behaviors. Having access to or talking about lethal means like firearms
* Note: kids may experience all of these and not have suicidal thoughts or none of these and be suicidal. These are only guidelines. If you are concerned, take action and get help.
For Immediate Support
National Suicide Lifeline: Call /Text: 988 Emergencies: call 911
Suicide is a leading cause of death for young people aged 15-24. Gun violence is a factor as well, with 9 out of ten suicide attempts w/ a firearm resulting in fatality.

The teen years can be difficult. Indicators of teen drug use, mental health concerns, unhealthy relationships, human trafficking and other risk factors can be hidden in plain sight, but easy for parents and other adults to miss.
Adults all learn differently just like youth. This presentation brings a unique opportunity to get involved with the presentation through this interactive event.
The purpose of the exhibit is to help parents and other adults see the environment with new eyes, to see the warning signs that may be obvious once they are pointed out, and then help them have a conversation with the teen to stop dangerous behaviors before the worst happens - addiction, legal trouble, injury or even death.
Must be 21+ to attend.
Tuesday—May 27, 2025
Doors open at 5 pm to 7:30 pm Program starts at 5:30 pm East Valley Middle School 4920 N Progress Rd, Spokane Valley, WA 99216
EVENT DETAILS: Participants will walk through a mock teen bedroom and try to identify 70+ items, which can indicate problem or risky behaviors.
PRESENTATION: After walking through the teen room, attendees will participate in a presentation and discussion which will cover:
• Identification and discussion of items and how they may indicate problem or risky behaviors.
• Popular local youth trends and data.
• Tools to help navigate the teen years & discussion points for family conversations.
RESOURCES: Local resources will be available for all participants while supplies last.
Childcare available & snacks provided. First 25 registrants will be entered to win a $50 Gift Card to the Red Dragon.
FREE but Registration is Required. Click on the QR code above or https://shorturl.at/pYc6R
You borrow packets of vegetable, herb, and flower seeds from a selection in the seed library at any time during the year, plant them in your garden, and watch them grow.
When it’s time to harvest, let a plant or two go to seed, collect the seeds (learn how), and bring them back to the library for the next round of gardeners to enjoy.
Our seed libraries are absolutely dependent upon donations for viability.
Details for seed donations:
• Keep varieties of seed types separated when returning or donating seeds
• Restock information includes the type of vegetable such as: pepper/ sweet bell or pepper/habanero
• Only heirloom seeds can adapt and produce seeds
• Growing plants from hybrid seeds will not allow you to save seeds.

Sometimes, families find themselves in situations where caring for an animal is no longer a possibility. Choosing to re-home a pet can be an incredibly difficult decision.
The following are some tips to try to re-home your pet before bringing it to a shelter:
• Give yourself time to re-home your pet. It can often take weeks to months to find it the best home. Increase your pet's adoptability by having it spayed or neutered and groomed. Make sure your pet is up -to-date on vaccinations.
• Spread the word to increase your chances of finding the right home for your pet. Ask your friends, family and co-workers to help. Social media can be a great place to share this information, in addition to neighborhood apps. Use caution when considering unknown individuals or families as your pet’s new owners. Hold the initial meeting in a public place and ask questions to screen potential adopters. (Are there other pets in the house? Have you established a relationship with a veterinarian? Do you have a fenced in yard? How many hours a day will the animal be left alone?)
• Share your expectations for your pet’s new home. If you wish to stay in touch with your pet's new family, make that clear up front.
• Never abandon your animal.
• Rescue groups that focus on caring for and helping families re-home a specific breed are available for almost any type of dog or cat. Organized by people who have extensive knowledge of a specific breed, these groups provide a
variety of opportunities for your pet, including the possibility of your pet staying in foster care until a new home is found.
If you're unable to personally find a new home for your pet, here are options to consider.
Please consider volunteering, & donating to these organizations.
Our programs, services, and culture are focused on one thing: keeping people and pets together. We believe that people and their pets are better together and that animal care centers & animal shelters should be reserved for sick and injured animals and animals with nowhere else to go. bettertogetheranimalalliance.org
Since CAC has a 'no time limit' policy, we admit animals dependent upon space and resources. Please contact us: frontdesk@companionsanimalcenter.o rg or 208.772.4019 companionsanimalcenter.org
Provides a safe space for rescued animals to stay as long as they need until permanent loving homes are found. We have a strict no-kill policy; we will keep the animal until it is adopted.

We are a group of animal lovers dedicated to finding the purrfect fit for every cat and kitten in our care. We believe in making a lifetime
commitment, not only by trying to find our rescues forever homes, but also by taking our rescues back (even years later) if for any reason that adopted home does not work out. partnersforpets.org
Our work constantly brings animals to our attention who are in desperate need of help. Because of this enormous need, we have a shelter building for cats and a family of fosters who provide safe havens for cats/kittens and dogs/ puppies while any medical issues are addressed and forever homes are found for them. Serving Pend Oreille, Bonner and N. Spokane Counties. pawsitiveoutreach.org
Dedicated to saving dogs in need. We specialize in rescuing dogs who have exhausted all options whether they come from shelters, tribal lands, law enforcement agencies, rural counties, or are being ownersurrendered. rescue4all.org
We help people in times of crisis by fostering companion animals while the owners get the help they need. Not everyone can afford to board and that shouldn’t be a reason why someone doesn’t get a necessary surgery, seek treatment for their addiction, stay in an unsafe living situation or resist going to a shelter. Fosters are always needed! Our period of care is 60 days or less. safespokane.org
