BREWERY GULCH INN

Our insider’s tip: Ask for the Meadowview second floor suite. Relax in the comfort of Brewery Gulch’s most spacious accommodation. Coastal hues of warm grays and browns wrap your 560 square foot second floor suite in a zen-like cocoon.

From its inception, Brewery Gulch Inn was intended to be an environmentally-responsible steward of this amazing parcel of land. The vision has been to create a restful retreat while enhancing and improving the existing ecosystem, increasing native habitat, encouraging bio-diversity, and regenerating the land.

Meet Claudia Up early in the morning to take in charge of the breakfast at Brewery Gulch Inn, she will host you with the specials. Originally from Mexico city, her parents left the country when she was eleven for better life to Fort Bragg. And now it’s her home maybe more than Mexico City. Does she ever consider moving out? Not sure for her who have not been further than the Wisconsin state. She needs the calm and easy pace this area offers, so maybe later, but not in a big city.

The Brewery Gulch Inn has used 150- year old eco-salvaged, first growth virgin redwood timbers that were pulled from the mud and silt of Mendocino’s Big River.

Enjoy a warm evening in the lounge/dining room with a board game and the peaceful atmosphere created by the incredible fireplace.

Meet Rebecca Johnson, local artist In an old restored red wood barn, Rebecca Johnson has decided to settle and set up her artist studio. With vintage local red wood recovered boards mixed with other media, she is making paintings and sculptures. You can visit her studio or find some of her paintings in the lobby of the Brewery Gulch Inn.

LOCAL CULTURAL DISCOVERIES: DON’T MISS MENDOCINO’S CULTURAL SCENE

Mariangelina Le Thanh is from Italy. Resident at the Mendocino Art Center for six months, she found here the right balance between calm and pressure to thrive her inspiration. She was at first specialized in drawing, mangas and comics, and then after a stay in San Francisco she decided to take a turn to the painting. At the Art Center, more focus and inspired than ever, she is defining her style. We wish her a wonderful stay and a successful career.

THE INN AT NEWPORT RANCH

This table - made out of a single tree- reflects in itself the the owner’s passion for the redwood trees, that have been extensively used to build this property.

The cozy warmth of the redwood works perfectly in the Newport suite. There is this delicate balance between the wildnerness of this place and the safe homey feeling.

Meet Chef Cooper Bigard Away from the burst of the big cities, he is not racing for a prestigious position but he is racing for the quality of the food. 12 year ago he became a chef in DC. With a French cuisine foundation and Alain Passard as a model he is part of these new chefs who are looking for more simple and natural ingredients. After numerous busy places he worked, he is now the Chef of this incredible and remote ranch where he is free to follow his heart. He is working not only on sustainability, but also on a locally sourced cuisine. For him, it starts by having his own garden where he grows all the vegetables you can find in our plate. This young Chef is definitely to follow as a trailblazer of a new approach of cuisine.

The ranch now totals over 2,000 acres with a mile and half of oceanfront and three miles of contiguous ridge lines with panoramic views. And friendly cows.

Last inspiring night, feeling so small and fragile in front of the ocean’s immensity.
