The Truth Behind Celsius

Just recently at EPHS, Celsius Live Fit energy drinks have become available in our vending machines located in south and east commons. At frst this didn’t seem to be an issue, but just this winter there have been rising controversies surrounding the energy drink. Some of which include the most recent lawsuit that concerns false advertising of the label which states “zero preservatives.” The drink contains citric acid, which can be labeled as both a preservative and a favoring agent. Many rumors on social media platforms spread rumors about this lawsuit saying it was for causing heart attacks, copying other brands, and even creators claiming the drink caused death. Thankfully, none of this is true. Although there is more controversy than you’d expect over citric acid, Celsius denied the allegations and claimed it was strictly used for favoring. The class-action lawsuit reached a settlement fund of $7.8 million, and to award customers up to $250 each. This was eligible to anyone who had purchased various Celsius products between Jan. 1, 2015 and Nov. 23, 2022. Any customers who bought a celsius product within this time frame could receive money from the settlement. There were various guidelines for this agreement, some of which include valid receipts of purchase for personal or household consumption and not for resale purposes, and you have to live in the United States. You’d never expect the opportunity to receive 250$ just from buying an energy drink!
