Tongue Weight is the load supported by the hitch when the trailer is connected to the trailer ball.

Excess tongue weight will cause unstable towing as weight is shifted from the vehicle’s front suspension to the rear suspension.

Weight Distribution & Sway Control Weight distribution kits are recommended for vehicles towing weights in excess of 5,000 lbs. Weight Distribution removes excess weight from rear axle of the tow vehicle (fig. 1) and distributes it over all axles of the vehicle and trailer (fig. 2).
