A DATA TRADIE’S GUIDE TO SURVIVING SAP PROJECTS Imagine that you have been nominated as the SAP Pro for your area and you’re now a member of a project team to develop, upgrade and implement changes, as well as still having to do your day job. Only the project entails five overlapping projects, across two interfacing SAP systems in two years.

Well, it happened to me, and our challenge was to implement these projects (which included significant maintenance workflow and contract management changes and an SAP S/4HANA upgrade) with minimal interruption to daily operations. In this multi layered case study I’ll share my “Data Tradie” approach, where I draw upon my trade background from early in my career and apply that methodology as an SAP product owner and end user.

TRANSITIONING TO SAP S/4HANA 2022: HOW TASNETWORKS DELIVERED THIS TRANSFORMATION TasNetworks successfully transitioned from ECC6.0 to SAP S/4HANA 2022 (on prem) in May 2023. Getting there required us to plan around SAP’s roadmap, decide whether to cloud or not to cloud, to Fiori or not Fiori, manage significant new business requirements, understanding multiple dependent projects, all while conducting a wholesale business transformation impacting people and processes.

A five-year roadmap across the EAM and wider SAP footprint was developed resulting in moving away from SAP for field service management functions as well as a soft launch into Fiori and other supporting processes like SAP Signavio. This session will share how this work fitted into TasNetworks wider ICT roadmap and why it was a major driver for the timing of this project.

As the first project SA Power Networks had taken a complete Human Centred Design approach the team achieved a product configuration that has been adopted well and really met the user needs.

GETTING STARTED ON HYDRO TASMANIA’S ENTERPRISE PORTFOLIO AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT (EPPM) JOURNEY This project is in its early days; however, the concept is building steam.

We’ll share how we have documented problem statements and are working with SAP to explore how SAP EPPM can help to improve our approach to lifecycle asset management. ASSET STATUTORY COMPLIANCE – CAN THIS REALLY BE MANAGED USING SAP? Asset Statutory Compliance is a major requirement at our AGL Sites. From pressure vessels to cranes and even generators, being compliant is a must to keep the electricity generating. Three years ago, every AGL site was managing their compliance differently; from executing and signing off inspections, to reporting to ensuring the assets are compliant. With the aim of standardizing our approach an AGL project team was set up with site representatives to understand and map out how Statutory Compliance will be managed at our sites using SAP as the driver.

This Deep Dive session will be split into two parts: Part one: We’ll demonstrate how AGL standardized our procedures, gained endorsement from our site leaders, reviewed our strategies, and ensured the reporting was uniform across the entire fleet.

Part two: We will show how this standardization was implemented into SAP through Master Data updates, reworking Preventive Maintenance Plans, utilizing Notifications Tasks, and using Fiori as the User interface.

AGL’S MENTAL HEALTH INCIDENT MANAGEMENT APP BUILT IN SAP USING HUMAN CENTRED DESIGN The issue of mental health and related impacts on the health and wellbeing of AGL’s workforce was increasingly becoming of material concern to the management. Unfortunately, the extent of and potential severity of this issue was relatively unknown due to a lack of accurate and dependable reporting and analysis of these types of incidents.

There was an urgent need to create a process where employees and relevant leaders can adequately and confidentially identify, report and monitor psychologically impacting events in the workplace, or events which impact them in a way which requires support, acknowledgment or intervention by their colleagues, leaders, and relevant Human Resource partner and injury management coordinators.

We developed a Fiori app using Human Centered Design (HCD) principles to record and confidentially process these incidents with enough smarts built in to determine the level of support required for processing the incident with sensitivity. By focusing on building genuine empathy for, and understanding of, the people that will be using the app, HCD approach helped make sure that the new app was tailor-made to meet the workers’ needs and wants.

The audience will take away three key learnings: Psychosocial incidents are becoming a material concern for the current and future workforce.

Human centered design principles help approach a problem with empathy to create solutions tailor-made for efficient use.

Leveraging the integrations and security features available within SAP made it possible!

Sigma Healthcare had outgrown its existing distribution centre in Hobart and embarked on a project to construct a new greenfield facility to increase capacity. REMOVING PROCURE TO PAY COMPLEXITY WITH PROCESS AUTOMATION AND FIORI APPS AT AUSNET AusNet implemented SAP ECC6 in May 2015, due to widespread business user concerns (200+) that SAP purchasing process was too complex and difficult to use. The decision was taken to continue to use SAP core procurement processes, but to develop Fiori applications that would enable the AusNet business users to have a much-improved user experience via SAP Fiori Application development.

AusNet has developed a suite of SAP Fiori Applications to support the end to end Procure to Pay process, these include E-Buy – Create Purchase Requisitions, Purchasing Dashboard, Manage Purchase Orders, Invoice Workflow & PO Receiving and Purchase Order Approval. In addition to the Fiori application developments, extensive work has been completed to implement automated P2P processes; Purchase Requisitions (PR) are either converted into Purchase Orders via an automated program or are considered an exception for manual Purchase Order creation. 80-90% of AusNet Purchase Orders are being created automatically and work flowed for approval.
