1 Anatomage Table: Thanks to the generosity of the Clare Foundation, EA is the proud new home of an Anatomage Table, an interactive 3D anatomy visualization and virtual dissection tool.

2 Perfect AP Score: Sophomore Rohan Dalal was one of only 196 students around the world to earn a perfect score on the AP Computer Science Principles Exam in May 2022.

3 National Merit Recognition: Thirty seniors have been recognized by

the National Merit Scholarship Program. Sixteen students were selected as Semifinalists, while an additional 14 were named Commended Students.

academics 1 Epolitan Wins Gold Medal Award: This past Februrary, EA’s literary

magazine, Epolitan, earned a Gold Medal Award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. The 2020-2021 publication earned “Excellent” remarks for the cover, title page, front inside spread, as well as verbal and visual content.

Epolitan features student works in a variety of mediums including 2D and 3D art, photography, woodworking, poetry and short stories, and more than 35 students and teachers had their works included.

2 Lilley Fellows: Last spring, five Upper School students were selected to

undertake in-depth research projects through EA’s Lilley Fellows program.

The students, selected from a pool of 18 applicants, delved into their research over the summer and presented their final capstone projects this fall. Working alongside a faculty advisor, students worked on projects ranging from developing an accurate biosenseor, studying the “Dreamer” status and effects on education, promoting and encouraging the study of Latin, understanding the challenges of fast fashion, and studying the use, growth, and public policy endeavors of electronic bikes. Established in 2018 through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. William Lilley III ’55, the Lilley Fellowship Fund awards research fellowships to students who exemplify academic curiosity, intellectual rigor, and scholarly passion.

3 Success at PJAS State Competition: After receiving first place awards at

the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS) Regional Competition in February, 12 Upper School students had the opportunity to present their research again at the PJAS State Competition at Penn State University in May. EA students found success at the state-level competition, with all 12 competitors placing first or second, and two students earning perfect scores. The students presented their projects on diverse disciplines including behavioral psychology, microbiology, computer science, and engineering, as well as biology, chemistry, and physics.

4 D’Ambrosio Fellows: EA honored five remarkable teachers in the sixth class

of D’Ambrosio Fellows. The Fellowship recognizes outstanding EA educators who have a transformative impact on their students and inspire teachers to achieve the highest level of work. The 2021-22 Fellows included Lower School Physical Education Teacher Mrs. Colleen Bernabei, Hon., Lower School Coordinator of Instructional Support Mrs. Nicole Squillario, Middle School Mathematics Teacher Ms. Melissa Ruggiero, Upper School World Languages Teacher Sra. Cristina Deirmengian, and Upper School English Teacher Mr. Tony Herman. Established in 2016 by Lou and Kim D’Ambrosio P ’17 ’18, The D’Ambrosio Fund for Extraordinary Faculty seeks to inspire teachers to achieve the highest level of work with its Fellowship program and by funding professional development activities.

1 Mamma Mia: This past April, the Domino Club delighted audiences with their amazing performances of the Upper School spring musical, Mamma Mia! 2 Summer Studio: In an effort to continually showcase Upper School student artwork, seniors Eesha Ampani and Kirsten Regan took the lead in curating an art gallery for the beginning of the school year focused solely on the summer creations of EA’s student-artists. Aptly named Summer Studio, the gallery exhibit in Coote Honor Hall of Turner Upper School features student submissions of visual art, while a prominently hung QR code directs visitors to the Summer Studio website featuring performing and literary art submissions. The idea for the studio was born out of a desire to “bring light to the pieces that are created on the artist’s own time in their solo studios,” Eesha said. In total, they received 39 submissions: 29 visual art pieces, seven performance pieces, and three literary pieces.

3 Living with the Art: Alumna Jess Jahnle ’10, a surface designer and artist,

kicked off the 2022-23 Crawford Campus Center Gallery season with her dynamic and bold show, Living with the Art. After her gallery opening on Tuesday, Oct. 4, Jess—the founder and designer of Yes Paper Studio LLC—led Visual Art Department Chair David Sigel’s Honors 2D-Design IV-V art class in a workshop demonstrating how to create a repeating pattern. “The first original drawing is the most important part of the process,” she told students.

“Learning the technical part can be figured out.” The Living with the Art show featuring her vibrant surface designs ran through Friday, Oct. 14.

4 Fall Shows: Both the Domino Club and the Harlequin Club look forward to

an incredible fall season of theatre: • The Domino Club returns to the Ridgway Blackbox Theater on Oct. 27-29 with The 39 Steps, a thrilling and intriguing comedy that mixes an Alfred Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel and a dash of Monty Python.

A cast of 17 actors plays 40 characters in this fast-paced tale of an ordinary man on an extraordinarily entertaining adventure.

• The Harlequin Club will take the big stage in the Carrafiell Family Theater for their fall musical, Annie Jr., on Nov. 18-19, performing hits like “It’s a Hard Knock Life” and “Tomorrow.”

Varsity Softball was Inter-Ac Champions, ending the season with a 16-3-1 record. Varsity Baseball finished with a a 16-4 overall record and 8-2 split in league play: the best record in league play since 1983.

Boys’ Varsity Tennis earned the Sportsmanship Award at the Delbarton Tournament.

Boys’ Varsity Track and Field had a record-setting season, won the InterAc Championship for the first time in 43 years, and won the team’s first-ever PAISAA Championship. Girls’ Varsity Track and Field ran to 2nd place at the Inter-Ac and PAISAA Championship meets.

Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse was Inter-Ac Champions and Alexa Capozzoli ’22 was named Inter-Ac MVP. Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse finished with a 7-3 record in the Inter-Ac, which included a big win over Malvern Prep.

Boys’ and Girls’ Varsity Rowing had a solid number of hard-working experienced upperclassmen and two great groups of novice rowers. EA rowers were ranked in the top five in seven of their eight boats going into the Philadelphia City Championships!

Girls’ Varsity Golf clinched the Inter-Ac Championship, and the squad went undeated in league play. Clarissa Lim ’25 finished 3rd at the Individual Championship and placed 2nd in the PAISAA tournament.

Boys’ Varsity XC is having a record-breaking year, already winning the Delco Championships for the first time in school history and the Inter-Ac Championship for the second consecutive year. Girls’ Varsity XC is at 3-2 overall, including a narrow 26-29 win over The Agnes Irwin School.

Varsity Field Hockey is currently at 11-2-2 and continues to stay resilient, especially in the numerous overtime games the team has played this season.

Girls’ Varsity Soccer has a 7-1 conference record, with senior Maya Naimoli making the Goalkeeper All-American Watch List. Boys’ Varsity Soccer is 7-53 on the season, with senior striker Eddie Jones being selected as Main Line Boys Athlete of the Week in early October.

Girls’ Varsity Tennis is having a stellar season, currently 10-0 in the Inter-Ac. Singles player Kamora Helton ’24 was selected as Main Line Girls Athlete of the Week in September.

Boys’ Varsity Water Polo finished 2nd overall in the Flight IV in the Beast of the East Tournament, while Girls’ Varsity Water Polo made it to the Flight III Championship game in the Beast of the East Tournament.

Boys’ Varsity Golf continues to improve with each opportunity. A highlight includes beating Radnor High School by three strokes on Wednesday, Oct. 5.

Varsity Football is currently 7-0, with strong wins against Penn Charter (487) and Germantown Academy (49-7).
