The sustainable fuel used in this flight was derived from waste fats and plant sugars, emitting approximately 70% less carbon than traditional petroleumbased jet fuel, as detailed in a press release. The aircraft landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Tuesday afternoon, concluding the landmark journey.

SAF represents a crucial component in the aviation industry’s transition to zero carbon emissions, particularly in the current decade, according to Andrew Chen, Principal for Aviation Decarbonization at the Rocky Mountain Institute, a clean-energy think tank. Despite its potential, SAF currently accounts for a mere 0.1% of airlines’ overall fuel consumption.

While Virgin Atlantic’s achievement is groundbreaking, it is important to note that this was a one-time demonstration. The airline has no plans to regularly offer all-SAF flights.

Standard jet engines are not designed to run exclusively on sustainable fuel, and the limited availability and high cost make it impractical for widespread use on all flights.

The Wall Street Journal recently investigated the inappropriate content delivered by Instagram’s Reels video service to users interested in children. To assess the platform’s response, the Journal set up test accounts that followed profiles of young gymnasts, cheerleaders, and teen and preteen influencers.

The outcome, as reported by the Journal, was unsettling.

Instagram’s system delivered disconcerting doses of salacious content to the test accounts, including explicit footage of children and overtly sexual adult videos. What added to the concern was the inclusion of advertisements for some of the largest U.S. brands alongside this inappropriate content.

Many of these accounts not only followed children The Journal’s findings revealed a significant demographic skew among the followers of these popular accounts, with a substantial number being adult men. Moreover, the investigation discovered that many of these accounts not only followed children but also exhibited an interest in sexually explicit inappropriate content related to both children and adults. Following these accounts led to an escalation in exposure to more disturbing content and advertisements.

Nissan’s Multi-Billion Investment Unveils Next-Gen Leaf and Two New Electric Models in the UK

Japanese automotive giant Nissan, a pioneer in the mass production of electric vehicles (EVs) since the launch of the Leaf over a decade ago, has recently unveiled ambitious plans for the future. The company is set to introduce a next-generation Leaf, along with two new electric models as part of a substantial multi-billion-pound investment in the United Kingdom.

Production center for the new electric models The two upcoming fully electric offerings are expected to include a mid-sized electric SUV, an all-electric Nissan Qashqai, and a slightly smaller model, the electric Nissan Juke. Nissan is committing a massive £3 billion ($A5.7 billion) investment to establish three new factories at its EV36Zero hub in Sunderland. This hub will serve as the production center for the new electric models, batteries, and the necessary infrastructure.

This investment represents one of the most significant electric vehicle initiatives in the country to date. The Sunderland hub, where the production will take place, is powered by a renewable micro-grid, featuring locally produced wind and solar energy, including a newly installed 20MW solar plant. The Qashqai SUV, a best-seller in the UK in 2022 and accounting for one in every five cars manufactured in the country, and the smaller Juke, with over a million cars on the road, will both undergo electrification as part of this groundbreaking investment.

All three electric initiatives will be based on concept models, two of which were recently showcased at the Japan Mobility Show.

These include the Hyper Urban Concept, a crossover EV forming the foundation of the electric Qashqai, the Hyper Punk Concept, shaping the Juke, a compact crossover, and the Chill-Out Concept, initially revealed in 2021, serving as the basis for the updated Leaf.
