• What are the initial challenges you faced and what are the reasons behind the company’s long-standing success?

I distinctly remember my childhood aspiration to start and lead an organization. An eye on the future led me to technology. I had no technical background, but from day 1, I approached the business as a learner. When I founded Embee in 1986, over three decades ago, there were no smartphones. We used to

We started with selling global licenses of IBM Lotus and then Microsoft Office. The transition to hardware and SI solutions was a natural progression. With the need for recurring services revenue, we began our AMC practice. I always had my eye on acquiring quality customers and creating long-term relationships. With the growth in our base business, we became a global strategic partners of Microsoft in 2010.

As the organization grew, I developed the vision of Embee as the technology partner for its customers. One key driver of our growth and transformation was to keep moving up the value chain and not stagnate. I have always had my eye on new technologies and areas of business. Hiring the right employees and setting the right processes were also some of the key significant challenges faced by me as a businessman. We’re a very people-driven business, and I am blessed with a fantastic team.

• What are the products or services the company focuses on?

How are your services different from those in the market?

We like to divide our solutions and services into five main buckets: Cloud services, Workplace modernization, Apps & Data solutions, System Integration, and Managed Services.

We opened our first branch in Mumbai in 1992. Then during 1996-2000, we emerged as a Microsoft Licensing Partner and won key accounts such as Indian Army and Tata Steel. Our major growth journey started in 2000 where we established the Audio Visual and Surveillance business and expanded our presence across new locations.

So, from software reselling to being a front runner in the technology solution and services industry, Embee has now matured into a trusted technology and strategic partner that is driving organizations towards digital transformation.

• ‘Innovation is the key to business growth’, Please share your views.

Yes. Innovation is crucial for the growth of every business. You can’t grow if you don’t change the way you work, come up with new ideas and invest in technologies that will drive the future. The key to any successful business is to keep updating its products and services relevant to the current scenario.

• Please share your thoughts on what businesses should do to be

I distinctly remember when I was around 12-13 years old, I knew somebody who used to work for Tata Steel. He talked a lot about Shri JRD Tata and how he is a phenomenal human being and

Processware was one of the few organizations in India, to have a customer meet on an annual basis to hear from them. A formal customer meet, where all the customers participate and share their views on the sector, technology, and user preferences have helped the organization over the years.

Tackling initial hurdles Like every business dreaming of the long success ahead, the initial period for the company was extremely challenging. In those days, the software products sector was not existing in the country.

There was no venture capital activity in India. The bulk of the activities focussed on services being provided to customers overseas. Raising the required capital for product development was a big challenge. Processware

System’s BankSoft is an enterpriseclass product, which required substantial capital for development and marketing.

Their efforts to raise loans from banks were not successful. Getting the proper resources was a challenge since most of the programmers were suited for service-oriented projects.

Development requires a lot of innovative thought processes and hence they were forced to train the resources to think like product designers and developers.

And then the growth started Back in 1994, a set of new banks were licensed by RBI and they started looking at automating the entire activity. Even large PSU banks were not completely automated. They were still using ALPMs (Automatic Ledger Posting Machines). BankSoft was rolled out in these new banks, which enabled widespread adoption of the product.

Focus on the sector coupled with perseverance has been one of the key factors for success.

Processware believes that deep domain expertise is required to gain the trust of customers. They not only provide software solutions but also deliver great insights to their valuable customers in their journey.

The Covid-19 outbreak has made enormous changes in the way businesses are executed. There are a lot of new normal that has emerged.

Businesses have now accepted the Work from Home as well as the digital transformation that was required to sustain the ongoing business. Darwin's theory “Survival of the fittest” still holds and every business was forced to adapt the required changes to run it.

To be relevant in the market race after COVID-19, you need to adopt ways that don't affect your running business while you are working from anywhere.

If one is in trading & services, they need to focus on products that don't require any physical presence of either a salesperson or a technical person.

Applications and data on Cloud is the way to go. Even conferences or Events that used to require physical presence, have also adopted virtual conferencing and has revolutionized the way people used to make their travel plans. The only business where there is no possibility of doing it virtually, like a Construction business or any such similar business needs to manage it with Covid -19 norms.
