Bill Campbell is quite a legend and it is interesting to know about the amazing relationships he shared with the pioneers of the technology industry, his journey, the fascinating insights gained from the various interviews in the book.

It is also a fun read at the same time.

I admire Richard Branson the most.

He always has been a true source of motivation for us.

I find Richard Branson’s business story a constant source of inspiration.

It is both, it is a need and it can be weaved into business success strategies so that we are never wary of market dynamics but can find opportunities from it.

• It’s a rat-race out there. How do you cope with that?

A

hmedabad, situated on the banks of the Sabarmati River, is the largest city in the state of Gujarat. From the year 1960 to 1970, it served as the capital city of Gujarat. However, later, the capital was shifted to Gandhinagar city. It was founded in 1411 by Sultan Ahmed Shah. It is for this reason that it is sometimes called the city of Ahmed Shah.

Ahmedabad is the center of trade and commerce in Gujarat. Apart from the commercial importance of Ahmedabad, it is an important tourist destination in India. Apart from being home to many important industries, Ahmedabad has many majestic monuments, which remind us of the great historical and cultural past of the city.

Ahmedabad was included in the Bombay Presidency during the British rule but remained the most important city in the Gujarat region. Over a period of time, Ahmedabad established itself as the textile industry and earned the nickname “Manchester of the East”. A growing center of higher education, information technology, and scientific industries, Ahmedabad remains one of the important cultural and commercial centers of Western India.

The city was founded in 1411 to serve as the capital of the Sultanate of Gujarat, named by Sultan Ahmed Shah. Under British rule, a military cantonment was established and the city’s infrastructure was modernized and expanded. It was a part of the Bombay Presidency during British rule in India.

With the creation of the state of Gujarat in 1960, Ahmedabad gained prominence as the political and commercial capital of the state. In dusty roads and congested areas, the city is experiencing a major construction boom and population increase. A growing center of education, information technology, and scientific industries, Ahmedabad is the cultural and commercial center of Gujarat and part of Western India. Since 2000, the city has been transformed through the construction of skyscrapers, shopping malls, and multiplexes.

The city of Ahmedabad is known for its diverse culture. The people of Ahmedabad are very emotional in celebrating every festive occasion, be it Navratri, a nine nights festival, or a kite-flying festival. Ahmedabad is generally a great choice of food. The cuisine of Ahmedabad includes such tasty lip accessories that you will try to have more and more food every time you enter a restaurant.

People of Ahmedabad are very vibrant and enjoy every moment of their life. They believe in living in a very simple way. When it is time for the celebration, the entire city gets excited and celebrates the festive occasions with vigor and enthusiasm. People here are very fond of food which explains why restaurants and cafes are always gathered by people in Ahmedabad.

The common languages of Ahmedabad, India are Gujarati, Hindi, and English. In informal groups, people of Ahmedabad usually speak in their native language, i.e. Gujarati Ahmedabad is a paradise for food lovers. The typical Gujarati thali, which is served in restaurants, includes genuine mouth-watering dishes. The food of Ahmedabad has a strange taste in India. A different type of sweet taste is prevalent in almost all foods. Ahmedabad cuisine consists mainly of vegetarian dishes. However, non-vegetarian dishes are also available in the restaurant.

Celebrations of religious festivals such as Navratri, Diwali, and Holi, which are dedicated to gods and goddesses, are truly secular and people from all communities participate enthusiastically in all festival celebrations. Apart from the national festivals which are celebrated with zeal and enthusiasm all over the country, there are some festivals which are specific to the state of Ahmedabad, such as the international kite festival and international furniture festival. Even the celebration of Navaratri, the festival of nine nights, is special in Ahmedabad.

Sardar Patel Stadium Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera, (Ahmedabad) is the world’s largest cricket stadium. The capacity of the audience in this new stadium is around 1.10 lakh. The cost of the project is at Rs 700 cr and it is built on about 63 acres of land. This Motera Stadium got inaugurated on 24 February 2020 by US President Donald Trump. The Sardar Patel Stadium or Motera Stadium), which was built in 1982 has redeveloped now. It is always been in the news as it is the world’s largest stadium. The foundation stone of Motera Stadium was laid in January 2018 and it is ready by February 2020.

The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) handed over the stadium project to Larsen & Toubro (L&T), while it is designed by architecture firm M / s Populous. It is the same firm that designed Melbourne Stadium.

Sabarmati Ashram This ashram spread over 36 acres on the banks of the Sabarmati river of Ahmedabad attracts people from all over the world. The Sabarmati Ashram is open 365 days, where people can visit anytime between 8:30 am and 7:30 pm. There are three important sites around this ashram. On one side is the huge holy Sabarmati River, on the other side is the crematorium ghat and on the third side is the prison.

When Mahatma Gandhiji returned to India from Africa, he joined the Indian National Congress and wanted to live in Gujarat with his wife, for which he built the Satyagraha Ashram on 25 May 1915 in his Kochrab bungalow at the behest of his friend Jeevanlal Desai. Gandhi started living here with his wife and close relatives. It was good in terms of living, but it was not possible to do activities like farming, animal husbandry, construction of village industries there.

He then re-established the Satyagraha Ashram on 17 June 1917 on a large area of about 36 acres on the banks of the Sabarmati River. Later this ashram came to be called Sabarmati Ashram by the name of the river. It is said that this ashram was built by engineer Charles Korea.

Bhadra Fort in Ahmedabad is a royal fort which occupies the top position in sightseeing of Ahmedabad.

Dada Hari vav Built during the reign of Mahmud Begad in the year 1501, it is right behind the grave of Dada Hari. It is one of the most complex structures in the city of Ahmedabad. The original purpose of establishing the well was to provide travelers with cold water and a place for relaxation.

Swinging tower Ahmedabad is well known for its waving miners, commonly known as Jhulta Minar, a classic example of superb craftsmanship.

Jhulta Minar is actually a part of Masjid Siddi Bashir. The mosque is constructed in such a way that, if you apply some strength to the upper arc, the miner starts speaking. For children, Jhulta Minar in Ahmedabad, India is a fun place.

eyond the work-from-home orders to millions of office workers around the world, another major shift has impacted work trends following the COVID-19 health scare – the sudden avoidance and even abandonment of finger- and thumbbiometric scanning to mark staff attendance and ensure workplace security and hygiene.

For more than a decade, corporations large and small, have adopted what appeared to be the logical technologies to track entry and exit of staff and contract workers – biometric finger scanning or the ubiquitous plastic access cards hung on a lanyard around the necks of millions of office and factory workers worldwide.

But as the COVID-19 novel coronavirus casts a long shadow over how we live, work and play, hundreds of corporations big and small, in government agencies as well as private sector, have suspended biometric attendance in recent weeks.

survive for hours or even days on surfaces, various state or federal administrations in the United States, Egypt and India have suspended the use of fingerprint scanning, as have large MNCs. Employees, gig workers and subcontractors allowed to enter premises are wary of scanning their digits for fear of infection, and employers have no choice but to suspend this once ‘high-tech’ workplace technology.

As infections and death toll mount and dominate headlines daily, there is even fear that tapping access entry cards on common surfaces may risk contagion. Workers are also concerned about touching infected surfaces such as door handles, key cards.

Compounding these problems, delays in temperature screening and antiquated pen-and-paper formfilling for contact tracing has meant long delays and deep frustration among staff and visitors. The greater risk is that the latter procedures are slow or inadequate to prevent infection.

Due to the exceptional circumstances brought about by Covid-19, the guardians of each organisation’s human capital and security must re-assess all attendance recording and entry-exit procedures at the workplace.

Punctuality is vital for each organisation but health and safety must now be accorded equal if not higher priority in the face of the pandemic.

The confluence of these factors is pushing corporations to switch to 'touch-less' facial recognition technology – but with the bells and whistles of instant temperature scanning and real-time procedures to alert managers of temperature variance and activate contact tracing. Automated ‘touch-less' doors – which allow staff to avoid contact with doorknobs and handles – may soon become a requirement for many organisations.

In recent weeks, corporates have been racing to find new solutions and approaches that can holistically address security and hygiene issues while maintaining sound workplace attendance procedures. The consensus is clear: avoid touch as

far as possible for common areas once the workforce returns after the work-from-home restrictions.

At this critical juncture of the crisis, any integrated facial recognition and thermal scanning solution must be implemented easily, rapidly and in a costeffective manner. Workers returning to offices or factories must not have to scramble to learn a new process or fumble with declaration forms.
