By Beth Barker, Board Chair Looking back on 2021 makes me incredibly proud. Proud of our friends, our families, and our community. It has been a long road, but we are finding a new normal, and I am looking forward to turning the page on a new chapter in 2022.

In this new season, the Operation Round-Up Board of Directors is looking forward to new projects as well as partnering with organizations. Working with not-for-profit organizations is incredibly rewarding, and we experience first-hand how our communities would not be the same without them. The prospect of impacting others in our communities, especially during significant growth, is truly an honor.

Beyond the impressive numbers above, participating members’ dollars also provide educational benefits through scholarships. Last year, the Board of Directors awarded $27,500 to students to continue their education. Three of the scholarships are in the memory of Bruce A. Sumner and John C. “Jay” Barker, who significantly impacted the Energy Cooperative and our community. Thank you so much for believing in our young adults; it makes a considerable difference in their journey.

The Operation Round-Up Board members and I extend our sincere appreciation to the Energy Cooperative members, whose participation was incredibly beneficial to so many in 2021. While we faced numerous challenges in the past year, let us commit to continue doing our best to work together to better those around us. So, join me in the excitement of things to come as the next chapter continues to brighten.

The Board of Directors is thrilled to report that during 2021, the total grants funded were $206,069. This number includes forty-three public charitable organizations (501(c)3 IRS approved) located in eighteen different communities.

Each grant awarded was to an organization within the Yours in service, Energy Cooperative service area. Working through the grant application decisions can be incredibly challenging. The impact made possible by their contributions impacts those in need in enormous ways. Collectively, Operation Round-Up has awarded almost $3.9 million in grants.
